Stradbroke Village Services in Discussion Dear Residents Most of you will have heard about the New Strategic Direction announced by Suffolk County Council but wondered what it might mean for us in the Village. To be better informed the Parish Council has opened discussions with the County Council particularly in respect of the Library and the Courthouse. From the reports in the press and from information provided by our County Councillor we concluded that the future of the Library and possibly the building could be in some doubt. From our discussions to date it seems that SCC is looking for the parish to become involved supporting the Library and the Courthouse. This will clearly have a financial implication for the parish and therefore how much is raised through the precept. At the moment there is little indication of how much this might be and our discussions are continuing. I will write again when more information is available but be assured that the Parish Council will do everything possible to retain the current level of services in the village. If you have any views on this topic we would be pleased to hear them. Talk to any Parish Councillor or contact the Clerk: Carol Smy on 01379 384679, e-mail at clerkspc@thesmys.com or in writing at 1 Felix Cottages, Athelington Road, Horham IP21 5EG. Ann Kerr - Chairman Stradbroke Parish Council

Stradbroke Christmas Walks Walk 1. A Guided Christmas Walk of about 3 miles by Torchlight Wednesday December 22nd at 7.30 p.m. from the Community Centre. See what our footpaths out to Battlesea Green and back are like in the dark! When we get to Battlesea Hall there will be a welcoming glass of Christmas Cheer and mince pies, courtesy of Adrian & Patricia Lawson. There should be nearly a full moon and if we are lucky we can hope for a delightful walk on frosty moonlit night. Do bring a torch and it is a good idea to wear boots. Walk 2. A Circular Walk of 5 to 6 miles Monday 27th December at 10.00 a.m. starting from the Community Centre. Walk off all those Christmas meals with our traditional circular walk via Thorpe Hall, Horham and Wootton Green and finishing down Drapers Hill. Boots are strongly advised. There is no need to book, just come along and do bring any guests you have staying with you. Gerald Jenkins (385825) Footpath Warden

Nativity plays are part of the furniture at Christmas. Maybe you’ve seen children in them, wearing tea towels and dressing gowns, perhaps you recall taking part yourself. Everyone wants a starring role: Mary, Joseph, a Wise Man, shepherd, angel or even the star. Yet the star of the show was – and is – Jesus himself. It was his birth that was foretold centuries before, and He was the one the Wise Men travelled to see and worship. What’s all the fuss about? Come along to one of our Christmas services and see – You’ll be very welcome, and we’ll make sure there’s somewhere to park your camel. Christmas Services - We welcome you to join us! Suffolk Family Carers We are an independent charity, our services are free! A Family Carer is defined as any age; ‘looking after’ a relative, friend, partner, parent/s or child/siblings who cannot manage without them because of illness, age or physical, learning or mental health difficulties. Many Family Carers, care for more than one person. The main concerns are when caring impacts on every part of the Family Carers’ life. It is then, especially, that support is needed which is more focused, planned, and often outside the home, with a complete break from the caring role. This we know sustains situations, otherwise there would be many more people cared for in residential homes, hospitals and other establishments. Please call our Helpline for more information; 01473 232679 or visit our website; www.suffolk-carers.co.uk

The Rectory Tel: 384363 Email: davidstreeter@suffolkonline.net Church Website: www.allsaints-stradbroke. com Margaret and I are beginning our Christmas celebrations before Advent Sunday by going to Scotland. Last December my new Carol had its first performance; early this year, I added a fourth verse and entered a competition based in Edinburgh. My new words and tune did not reach the finals, but we are going north to hear the finalists at a seasonal concert, and to bring back some new ideas for what we should be singing in 2010. In this last month of the year, we are choosing our Christmas cards and presents, planning that they will be different from what we sent and gave last year. This is the joy of Christmas, bringing together what is familiar and reassuring with gifts and greetings that are up-to-date and well-selected, so that we celebrate both the birthday of a child whose caring angels bring a new message for these anxious times, and we follow the traditional ways of bringing light and warmth, colour and happiness, and good cheer, into our own homes and into those with whom we share the festival that celebrates God sending his Son and his love to be born in our world. I am also on page 175 of the glossy magazine, SUFFOLK, published by the EADT, listing, with three other county people “my festive top five” Christmas songs. I could not, of course, include my own new carol, as it is not yet widely known, but I hope that, after a vigorous promotion, it will be a favourite for many by Christmas 2011, and we shall indeed have opportunities round here to sing it this year. Do look at our church service times, and at the Diary on the back page to know when and where to sing. Another joyful event, before December next year, is to be the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. Kate rhymes with “celebrate”, so it should not be too difficult for me to write one verse now to greet them after their engagement, and more in time for the wedding day in spring or summer 2011. Asking you to alert your ears and voices to the festive spirit, may I also request you to take note of our Family Gift Service at 10 am on Sunday, 12th December. Please label goods for adults or children, and they will be passed on to the Salvation Army to give to those in greatest need. With all good wishes for Christmas & the New Year, David & Margaret Streeter. Church Cleaning - Thursday 9th December, 10.00 am onwards. Margaret Streeter

Life in the Legion It is as usual a very busy time for the branch at this period of the year. Firstly ‘The Poppy Appeal’, which is the lifeblood our great organization, is now over and I give my thanks to all who have donated this year and especially to all the collectors and our organizer Jeremy Higgins and his wife Anne. The Band Concert was a very successful event given by The South Norfolk Youth Symphonic Band and held in The Community Centre. The Conductor was Mike Booty, who has led the band for many years, and our thanks go to all those who supported it. A framed certificate was awarded to Michael Burton in the interval as he now led The Branch as Chairman for 30 years. Twenty six members and guests attended our AGM held at The Laxfield King’s Head. The speaker was Alan Brockbank from Sudbury, who is the Chairman of The Suffolk County RBL Welfare Committee. All the officers gave reports and were all re elected for another year. Donations are to be given to The Poppy Appeal, Suffolk County Chairman’s Appeal, and Halsey House our Legion Home in Cromer. We are visiting Halsey House later in November. A draw for The Poppy Appeal run by Graham and Evelyn Neale raised £52. Remembrance Sunday - A large crowd gathered at The War Memorial to remember all those lost in two world wars and in more recent conflicts, and to dedicate a new name of Private James Grigg now added to the memorial, and who lost his life earlier in the year in Afghanistan. Peter Ryan sounded The Last Post and Reveille, and a total of 14 wreaths were laid. We are very grateful to all the village organizations who participated and made donations to The Poppy Appeal. I gave The Legion Tribute, and The Remembrance Day Service was held in All Saints Church. The Reverend David Streeter led the service and the sermon was given by The Reverend John Curtis a retired Army Padre who lives in Diss. Lessons were read by myself and Jeremy Higgins. Ian Bushnell carried our Branch Standard at both events accompanied by a colour party of 4 cadets from Diss Air Training Corps. The next Branch Event – Christmas Carols and Lunch - will take place at Laxfield Village Hall on Thursday December 9th starting at 11.30am. The Lunch will cost £17.50 and all those attending please can you give your names to Jeremy Higgins ( Tel 01379 384300) no later than December 3rd. Christmas Greetings and a very Happy New Year to all readers. Please note that there is no meeting in January. Michael Burton – Branch Chairman.

Poppy Appeal We have so far banked £2,900 for this year’s Poppy Appeal in Stradbroke and Wilby which is a magnificent result. Thank you to all the collectors who go round with collecting boxes, and of course to those who have donated so generously, to all the shops who had boxes on the counter, and to all those who have donated for wreaths. The Poppy Appeal is very grateful, and the almost daily news of yet another servicemen who has died or is returning injured means that the requirement for the appeal carries on. Thank you all. Jeremy Higgins- The Local Organiser

Stradbroke Business & Enterprise College Headteacher Interviews Pupils from Stradbroke Business & Enterprise College School Council were selected by Suffolk’s Workforce Development team to interview prospective headteachers for the county. The pupils had to meet and greet the candidates and put them through a gruelling round of questions, such as ‘What things would you do to make sure that all pupils are learning to the best of their ability’ and ‘How would you ensure that pupil behaviour is appropriate and any necessary sanctions are fair’? At the end of the interviews, the pupils discussed their findings with the organising team, who later commented that they were very impressed by Stradbroke pupils who were ‘mature and very articulate’. All the pupils were thanked for their contribution and will be receiving a certificate soon. Mrs K Cheyne Director of Learning Our Primary Schools join us for Activity Days On Wednesday 6th October, Year 6 pupils from our feeder primary schools joined us for a ‘taster morning’. Pupils from Stradbroke, Wilby, Mendham, Laxfield, Fressingfield and Worlingworth took part in a range of activities including Music, Art, Science, Design Technology, PE and ICT. We are now looking forward to welcoming Year 5 pupils on Monday 6th December for an Activity Day. These days are very special and really help the transition between Primary School and Stradbroke Business & Enterprise College. Next term, we will continue our liaison with Science Days, Intake Days and other exciting activities. Mrs C Phillips Deputy Headteacher Stradbroke Business & Enterprise College and Worlingworth CEVCP School Partnership Ongoing talks continue between the Governors of Stradbroke Business & Enterprise College and Worlingworth CEVCP School regarding a possible partnership. Before any commitment is made, a consultation process will be undertaken involving parents and stakeholders of both schools. Should a formal agreement be reached, careful planning will be needed to ensure that the partnership is successful and enduring. If any member of the local community would like to contribute to the discussions, please contact me at school on 01379 384387 or email office@sbec.org.uk. Mr A Bloom Headteacher

Stradbroke Primary School The second half of the Autumn Term is always special. It is a privilege to work with young children around this time of year as there excitement grows as we head towards Christmas. I regularly teach Class 2 and asked them to tell Stradbroke Primary readers about exciting events which have happened recently in school. Class 2’s report on “Alice in Wonderland”. We had two actresses come to our school and they put on the play “Alice in Wonderland”. It was very good and funny. Our favourite character was the Queen of Hearts- she was strict. Some of the children got to act in the play. Adam and Ethan acted as a croquet hoop when Alice played croquet with the Queen! Lucy Coulter was a Dormouse and she was sleepy during the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. There was lots of different costumes- we liked the Mad Hatter’s one best. The play was fantastic and all the characters were acted very well by Class 2. INSPIRE Educational Visit We went to the INSPIRE Science Centre in Norwich and it was good. We had a lot of fun. We watched a Science show called “The Really Gross Show”. We liked touching the electric ball and shooting a catapult. We got to stand in a giant bubble but mine popped! We learnt about Science and how our bodies work. It was a great day. Zander Evans and Maggie Abbott. Owen, Robert (painting cards) Children Can Dance Like Chinese Dragons! and Lucy C (as dormouse) with We have been learning about Hong Kong. Our teacher Miss Wilbourn used to the Actresses. teach there and we write to children from her old school. We learnt about the Chinese New Year with Mrs Barrow and we are going to be a Chinese Dragon in a special dance lesson soon! Thank you to Class 2! It is a pleasure to teach them. Don’t forget our Friends of the School are holding their annual Christmas Fair on Friday 10th of December from 6.00pm, please come along if you are able to. There are always some great stalls and the children thoroughly enjoy this event. Finally I would like to wish the readers of Stradbroke Monthly a very happy Christmas and New Year. Stradbroke Cinema - ‘Made in Dagenham’

Everyone in Stradbroke is welcome to the Primary School Christmas Fair!

In The Community Centre, Wilby Road. Thank you to our regular cinema-goers; we were very pleased to see so many at “From Time to Time” it was good to get a film that was not out on general release as a video; the same applies to the February film “The King's Speech” Thursday, 17th February. The story of King George VI . Director: Tom Hooper Writer: David Seidler Stars: Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter, But before that on Thursday, 20th January, at 7.00 for 7.30 pm, we are showing “Made in Dagenham” a dramatisation of the 1968 strike at the Ford Dagenham car plant, where female workers walked out in protest against sexual discrimination. Director: Nigel Cole, Writer: William Ivory, (screenplay). Stars: Sally Hawkins, Bob Hoskins and Andrea Riseborough, The Bar will be open - and the usual Ice creams in the interval - entrance £5.50, A sparkling performance from Sally Hawkins as Rita, the leader of the group, is complemented by excellent performances from the whole cast including Bob Hoskins, Geraldine James and Jaime Winstone. Aside from the serious issues, the film also provides a wonderful wallow in nostalgia for the late sixties. This is a film which will have you shaking with anger one minute and crying the next. Highly recommended! A film with real heart! Audiences will leave with a smile on their faces. Margaret Streeter

Sleeping Beauty Stradbroke based Puzzle House Pantomimes are back with the classic fairytale SLEEPING BEAUTY, which is adapted into a traditional family pantomime. Six actors portray a host of characters in a show full of songs, live keyboard music, thrills, spills, slapstick and silliness. King Cameron and Queen Camilla's delight at the celebrations for their daughter's christening, turns to dismay when Morgueena, the wicked witch, appears at the castle. Furious that she was not asked to attend, she makes the chilling prophecy that Princess Emma will be known as Sleeping Beauty, for she will not live beyond her sixteenth birthday. Nanny Norah Bone, Hogwart the sorcerer's apprentice, the castle ghost, and all the Princess's friends join forces to try to thwart the evil witch. There will be puzzles and riddles to solve during the adventure...and that will need the help of the audience! Rotary Club of High Suffolk On 20th October Mrs Rosemary Ingate of Worlingworth became the first recipient of our new Community Award Scheme. As part of our Service in the Community programme, the Scheme rewards those ‘local unsung heroes’ who have made outstanding contributions to their community in a visible way, by selfless and generous activity over a long period of time. In 1992 the Parish proposed to improve the footpaths throughout Worlingworth to provide easier public access, allow better use of modern agricultural equipment, and give greater security to farmyards and livestock. Although having the support of the Parish Council, fifteen local landowners, who provided £15,000 to fund the scheme, other individuals and groups, it still required the, persistence, persuasive powers and resilience of someone like Rosemary to keep the project on track. With the Parish Council acting as applicant, complicated legal processes were lodged with both County and District Councils. Rights of way were re-aligned, which involved long discussions with bodies such as the Ramblers Association, and liaising with other user groups. Sixteen years later, in June 2008, it reached a satisfactory conclusion. The result: 17 miles of easy to follow walks through a typical High Suffolk landscape. The Club presented Rosemary with a framed certificate and a bespoke, hand-crafted carved walking stick. Is there someone, who, by his or her commitment to your community, you feel deserves such recognition? If so please contact: Rtn. C. Garrett on 10728 627190 John Gibbons

The Stradbroke Charitable Trust In 1994, due to the retirement of Dr Brian Goodge, one of the Practice partners, it seemed as if Stradbroke would lose its Doctor's Surgery, at the time a small and not soundproofed house in Doctor's Lane and that all medical services would in future be concentrated in Fressingfield. The Parish Council therefore set up a subcommittee consisting of Peter Smith, Ann Kerr and Reggie Elvin to consider the possibility of building a new surgery on Parish Council land on the Community Centre site. When such a project seemed difficult but nonetheless feasible, two additional people, David Bates and Gerald Jenkins, were invited to join what was to be called the 'Stradbroke Health Trust'. The Trust was set up as a charity, independent of the Parish Council. The main purpose of the Trust, after paying for the building, being to apply their funds to the benefit of the people of Stradbroke and the surrounding villages. The five Trustees then visited a variety of surgeries in Suffolk looking for good design ideas, started fund-raising and found an experienced medical centre architect, Peter Brookes. It was decided not to build to the minimum size required but to incorporate an extra area which could be absorbed into the surgery in the future should it ever be needed. This room was called the 'Trust Room' and for a number of years was available for hire by small groups for health-related purposes. It was hoped that alternative therapies and perhaps a chiropodist could become established there but in the end these were never very successful. Once a rough estimate of the building costs had been established, it was realised that fund-raising by 'coffee mornings', 'car-boot sales' etc. could never raise a sufficient sum. It was therefore decided to appeal directly to the people of Stradbroke for cash donations. Very soon, the sum of £32,000 was donated, including gift aid. Suffolk Health Authority contributed £25,000. Together with a mortgage raised on the value of the future building and a donation of £11,900 from the Rural Development Council, construction work was able to start. No money was provided by the Parish Council, just the site at a peppercorn rent. The building was constructed during 1996 and day to day supervision was provided by Reggie Elvin and Peter Smith. The official opening was held on November 23rd 1996. An improvement to the building was made in 2005 with the provision of an airconditioning system of which the Trust paid 50%. In 2007, the Trust Room was converted into an additional consulting room and extra IT space and this considerably improved the facilities in Stradbroke. Throughout all this time the Health Trust has taken responsibility for the upkeep of the Garden surrounding the Medical Centre, in recent years under the capable hands of Billy Alderton. Over many years, a sub-committee of the Parish Council had controlled a group of old bequests and charitable gifts, known as 'The Stradbroke Charities'. These funds were to be used to provide small sums of relief to the poor of the village. By 2003 this no longer seemed appropriate and in any case the sums involved were very small. Application was therefore made to The Charities Commission to combine all these funds into one and for it to be under the control of the Stradbroke Health Trust. This work was overseen by David Bates. Right from the beginning, Peter Smith has acted as Chairman and Ann Kerr as Secretary of the Trust. David Bates had acted as Treasurer and was instrumental in getting the loans and in setting up the legal basis for the Trust. In 2005 he moved away from the village and Roger Turkington was appointed as a new Trustee. Gerald Jenkins then took over as Treasurer. In May 2007 Reggie Elvin unfortunately died and Judy Castleton was appointed as a Trustee to replace him. Judy has recently lmoved from the village so a new Trustee wiil be appointed shortly. In 2008 it was felt that the name 'The Stradbroke Health Trust' was rather inappropriate and there was some confusion with similarly named but different bodies with different functions within the NHS. In December 2008, the Trust became officially 'The Stradbroke Charitable Trust'. Its charity number is 1050891. It is the legal owner of the Medical Centre until 2046 and receives a monthly rent from The Practice. This provides the main income of the Charity. As the mortgage for the construction and improvements to the Medical Centre was gradually paid off and the assets of the former village charities absorbed, it has become possible for the Trust to engage in other projects to improve the village of Stradbroke in line with its charter. Firstly we were able to help with £2000 towards the suspended ceiling of the Community Centre and then later with £1500 towards improvements to the kitchen. The permissive path along the Laxfield Road to the cemetery was completed by the Trust, with additional grant funding by the end of 2007. Its care and upkeep now rests with the Parish Council. In December 2008, the Trust received a legacy of just over £25,000 from the estate of Reggie Elvin with the request that it be used to improve the sporting facilities of Stradbroke. In 2010, we were therefore able to make a donation of £10,000 towards the drainage of the playing field. In addition, with the help of Mid-Suffolk and further local private and business donations, we were able to provide a 516 metre fitness track around it complete with outdoor exercise equipment. This has also been donated to Stradbroke Parish Council, the owner of the Playing Field. Further donations have been made to sports clubs, including one to help establish the new Junior Football Team. For two years, the Trust supported a Break Dance Project which initially was very successful. The Trust would welcome suggestions for further projects which would benefit the people of Stradbroke and the surrounding area. G. Jenkins

Stradbroke Tennis Club The Annual General Meeting of Stradbroke Tennis Club will be held on Friday 21st January 2011 at 7.30 pm this will take place in the social room of the Community Centre will all members please make an effort to attend. John Bedwell Chairman & Secretary.

Stradbroke Youth Football Team (SYFC) The Under 10s side had two excellent results since the last report including a really exciting cup match against Thurston who had beaten us 6-0 in our last match. Stradbroke Youth U10 5 - 3 Thurston U10 (after extra time) Stradbroke put that earlier defeat behind them and attacked from the start, going in at half time leading 2-0 with goals from Sammy Green and Robert Redwood. The second half saw Thurston fight back and with full time in sight they were leading 3-2 before a great individual goal from Stradbroke’s Matthew Knight took the game to extra time. Stradbroke had the momentum and a fine goal from Robert Redwood put the pressure on and Matthew Knight wrapped up the game with his second goal just before the end. A fantastic end to end cup tie and a credit to both teams. Man of the match was Stradbroke’s William Lynch with a great all round display. Needham Market Phoenix B, 0 - 3 Stradbroke Youth U10 Determined play from Needham kept Stradbroke at bay for the first half which ended 0-0. It took a great long range effort from Elliott Steele to break the deadlock in the second half. Two fine goals from leading scorer Jack Smith put the match beyond doubt and solid defensive play brought a clean sheet for the first time this season. With strong performances from everyone it was a fine team effort but Robert Redwood stood out, covering every part of the pitch and was deservedly man of the match.

Saturday Dec 4th from 4pm till 9pm in the Community Centre Everyone is invited to a Family Christmas Party in the Community Centre. Organised by Stradbroke Youth Football Club, the party is to give all families an opportunity to enjoy an early Christmas celebration together with their children and friends. Starting at 4pm to allow the youngest participants to take part and finishing around 9pm with a Disco for the older ones. There will be a running bar with soft drinks for the children and something a little stronger for the adults. An extensive finger buffet is included so hopefully avoiding the chore of cooking on a Saturday evening. Entertainment includes a Father Christmas for the believers (young and old) a family quiz designed for everyone to contribute, video games for the competitive geeks, family games for those who want to make a fool of themselves and of course a disco - also for those who want to make a fool of themselves! At £4 for and adult and £2 for a child (16 & under) this is your opportunity to celebrate the inaugural year of Stradbroke Youth Football Club with a big, family oriented, Christmas party. So why not buy yourself a ticket and come along on December 4th for an early evening of fun and festive entertainment. Children must be accompanied by an adult and vice versa Tickets, to be purchased in advance so we can determine food requirements, are on sale in the Post Office and SPAR Shop as well as from the individuals named below: Don Darling 388098, Anita Redwood 288802, Caroline Barton 388498, Sally Heydon 384778, Julie Heath 388535

Gardeners Notes If ever there was a time to catch up in the garden it is through December and January. It sounds a bit sad but if you put the work in over the winter you can relax in February just before things get going again in March. Winter is the best time to see the skeleton of the garden. Take the opportunity to tidy damaged trees and shrubs, deciduous trees' shape can be seen clearly enabling you to prune out unnecessary growth. If you want to get the best out of fruit trees, pruning little and yearly is the best way. Fruit trees left unprunned for years and then hacked back never respond so well. It is also worth mentioning that trees need to be fed, a sprinkling of Bonemeal or growmore on the ground extending to the canopy in early spring will give them a boost especially for fruit trees. Keeping the base of the trunk clear of grass and weeds has been proved to be very beneficial for healthy growth and prevents strimmer/mower damage. When I travel around to gardens one of the biggest problems I see on planted trees is ties not being loosened so they cut into the bark, this also goes for labels or even the elastic that holds on the label. The layer just below the bark is the most important part of the tree with the vessels that carry food and water from the roots, if the bark is damaged this will inhibit this process and at best will cause areas of the tree's canopy to die back and at worst kill the tree completely. We have had a good autumn with just about the right amount of rain and sun, and the trees have responded well with wonderful colour. If you are planting any trees in your garden here are some with great autumn colour worth considering: Acer rubrum 'Autumn Glory'(mid-large tree), Quercus rubra (red oak, large tree), Prunus 'Pandora'(small cherry with good flower, autumn colour), Parrotia persica (large shrub/small tree, wonderful autumn colour), Malus toringo 'Scarlet' (good all season tree, flower, fruit and autumn colour), Liquidambar stryraciflua 'worplesdon' Hamamelis x intermedia 'Pallida' (witch hazels are known for winter flowers but also have good autumn colour), Euonymus europaeus 'Red Cascade'(cracking autumn colour on a medium shrub), Crataegus prunifolia( ornamental hawthorn), Cotinus 'Grace'(good summer and autumn colour), Cercidiphyllum Japonicum(unusual leaf shape and scent in spring). Although winter is considered a quiet time in the garden some plants show themselves off to their best at this point. Cornus alba sibirica, Cornus stolonifera 'Flaviramea', Cornus sanguinea 'Midwinter fire' and Salix alba vitellina 'Britzensis' are all grown for winter stem colour, and if you are brave enough, Rubus cockburnianus (the ghost bramble) is interesting if you have lots of space, has powdery white stems in winter. Skimmia 'Rubella' doesn't suffer from ill looking leaves that some do in the soil most of us have. Viburnum tinus is a pretty back of the border plant and Mahonia x media 'Winter Sun' has sweet smelling winter flowers and architectural evergreen leaves. I was lucky recently to see a kingfisher on a small pond as I drove through Redlingfield, I do see them on ponds occassionally normally preceeded by their high pitched skreetch. I have spoken to a few people locally who claim to have seen otters on ponds. Otters do travel across land but so do mink which are much smaller and can be mistaken at a distance. I have also noticed buzzards around Stradbroke, nationally buzzards have become more abundant in recent years, and during the summer I saw a Red Kite over Heveningham Hall. I hope you all have a good relaxing Christmas, I very much recommend the torch light Christmas walk to Battlesea Hall with mulled wine and mince pies if it is being done this year. Best wishes for the festive period and may 2011 bring allotments to Stradbroke (fingers crossed), Luke

Dear Editor: “I would like to thank all my friends who throughout the past year have given me help and continuous support. Thanks to good neighbours who step in when needed and whose help is always willing and friendly. The local surgery is always helpful and supportive at all times. We as a village are lucky to have it. A Healthy and Happy New Year to All.” Patricia Fill ‘Help for Heroes’ Please support the dog walk on New Years Day.
