welve girls that wear the same uniform, practice the same plays, and share the ultimate goal—to win. According to team co-captain, Sharyn Tom, the varsity volleyball Chiefs are playing this year with a new attitude, new players, and a new coach to share new wisdom. The team is centralizing on the conclusive ambition of taking home the State Championship. “We are a strong and talented team; we have never got really creamed. When we lose, it’s usually by just a little, and that’s proof that if we keep trying, we can go to state” junior, Kailee Weiler and one of six selected by tournament coaches as “All Tournament Team Member.” The girls are off to a commendable start. Currently their game status is (3-6). Proving their dedication, they practice

skills for success, but teamwork is key.” The girls aim for as many team activities as they can. “We can never have enough team bonding time.” says Thom, libero, defensive specialist. According to Weiler, bonding really helps increase the teamwork on the court. Every Monday night they have “Monday Night Dinner” according to Tom. This takes place at a desired teammate’s house. It’s a chance for everyone to come together and further get to know each other. As for the success of the players individually, co-captain Weiler mentioned Tom and junior, Kassy Foss by name. Other co-captain Tom distinctly acknowledged Weiler, and senior, Molly Johnson. Both captains came to a concurrence of outside hitter, Ally Furno as a vital player to the team and is helping the team to set up their victories on the season.

There’s going to ba a lot of improvements for new swimmers. -Elyse Fornefeld, senior and Erin Strohmeyer and senior Elyse Fornefeld. “There’s going to be a lot of improvements for new swimmers,” said Fornfeld. “The previous swimmers are going to help make the team successful.” According to Fornfeld, this year’s

predictions are not as good as last year, but they’ll be better than an average team. The ladies best meet so far and the most anticipated of the season was against Prescott. The ladies came out ready to dominate and took the Badgers and won with a roaring score of 10373 Fornfeld also mentioned some of the key players this year who are senior Taylor Hoffman, and juniors Brems and Strohmeyer. The ladies current record being 33 and the boys being 1-5. The Chiefs last meet was against tough opponent Flagstaff. However, the ladies came up just short by two points with the score being 89-91.

Undefeated golf team continues on their hot streak this season

his season, the golf team started the year strong winning their first eight matches and one tournament. “Our goal this year is winning state,” said Logan Gardner, freshman. “Our predictions this year is to go undefeated,” said John Souza, freshman. The golf team remains undefeated after winning against Sunnylslope and Washington. Logan Dix, senior, and Austin Eslinger, senior, were the low scores on Sept. 14th with a 38. The Chiefs have already qualified for the state tournament with the goal of winning the state championship. “We are doing so well because we practice better and are more serious,” said Eslinger.“We also feel good about going to state because we have not been there in a while.” Eslinger later said. With a combined score of 322, the team won the district championship Sept. 25 at Palmbrook Country Club. Eslinger placed first with a 77 and won district player of the year. They have dominated their opponents. The Mustang Roundup Tournament was played on Sept. 10-12. The Chiefs beat excellent teams like Sunrise Mountain, Boulder Creek, and the Cobras of Cactus. Dix and Gardner both medaled with scores of 70 and 76, but low scores also came from Souza, Zach Hanna, senior, Hunter Booth, junior, and Eslinger. “Our team has definitely improved from last

year to this year,” said Eric Gurule, head golf coach. “We have key players like Dix (who won state last year,) Gardner, Eslinger, and Souza,” Gurule later said. Dix might have won state last year, but he will have some serious competition this season. Any of the talented stu-

Starting out the season with a positive attitude, boys and girls swim teams fight hard to win their meets. With the girls previous season record of 8-1, the ladies have a lot to live up to for this upcoming season. The boys previous season record was 4-5. The team hopes to have a more positive season. Against the Washington Rams the Chiefs swam their way into victory. The boys’ squad won the first three events and five in the entire meet. The boys team is led by sophomore Tyler Yamada, senior Tyler Lowy, junior Joe Parisi, and junior Cameron Conti. The lady Chiefs didn’t come up short either by winning every single

event. Winners included freshmen Morgan Barnes, sophomores Nicole Kostic, and Jackie Bailes, juniors Teresa Ybarra, Maggie Wisman, Jenna Brems,
