MESSAGE FROM THE CEO THANK YOU! Our hearts are full as we head into Fall after two full months of events. Thanks to the generous support of donors and volunteers, we successfully hosted our Timothy Project Back to School event and our annual William M. Thompson Memorial Golf Classic. We were then overwhelmed by the generosity and support we received during North Texas Giving Day. As we prepare for the winter season, I am reminded how thankful I am for wonderful supporters like you. Thank you for continually showing Christ’s love through your giving of time, your prayers and your donations. We are so blessed to have a community that helps us provide a hand up to those in need.
T H A N K YO U F O R A S U CC E S S F U L N O RT H T E X A S G I V I N G D AY Because of your generous donations, we are able to serve more people and reach more people with the gospel. This year we raised $404,000. These funds will help us not only provide food and shelter but transportation, childcare, job training and placement, parenting and finance classes. Even as we write this newsletter, we are currently transporting 100 individuals and families who lost their homes in a gas explosion. Because of you and your donation, we can serve our community when the need arises.
The Lord has been good to UGM Dallas. It’s a blessing to be a blessing. I am encouraged, and I hope you are too. Thank you again for transforming lives and ending homelessness one person at a time. Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! - Proverbs 34:8 BRUCE BUTLER, CEO Chief Executive Officer

to Serve Our Homeless Community and Raise Funds
THE TIMOTHY PROJECT BACK TO SCHOOL EVENT We hosted our annual back to school event, The Timothy Project, on August 13th. In addition to serving our residents, we extended the invitation to the surrounding communities including single moms and low income families. During the event, we served many families and students. We distributed supplies and backpacks with everything from pencils and folders to calculators and pocket dictionaries. They also received free haircuts and hair stylings as well as a pizza lunch provided by i Fratelli Pizza. Thank you to all who donated supplies, gave monetarily to support the event and our event sponsors, SPERE Corp, The Original Pancake House DFW and The Time Group. Your donation made an impact on the 1 in 3 children living in poverty in Dallas County as they prepared to head back to school.
WILLIAM M. THOMPSON MEMORIAL GOLF CLASSIC On September 8th, we hosted our 4th Annual William H. Thompson Memorial Golf Classic at Tour 18 Golf Course. This the 29th year of the event, which carries on the legacy of former UGM CEO, affectionately known as Brother Bill. We had an excellent turnout of businesses, veterans, supporters and local athletes. We are so thankful to those who came out to play and for our sponsors. DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM DINNER AND FREEDOM RUN In September, we were able to focus on a very important group at the shelter, our veterans. UGM Dallas took part in the Defenders of Freedom Dinner and the Freedom Run.
The Defenders of Freedom Dinner helped provide emergency financial assistance to post 9/11 veterans. We were honored to recognize 12 of the veterans living at the Calvert Men’s Shelter by inviting them this dinner. At UGM Dallas, we are committed to serving Veterans in the Dallas community. For more information on the programs we offer, visit www.ugmdallas.org. UGM Dallas partnered with The Freedom Run to help raise money for the Dallas Assist the Officer Foundation (ATO) in honor of Dallas’ first responders and police officers. Residents and staff completed the race and were treated to pancakes at The Original Pancake House DFW. We are thankful for the police officers and other first responders who serve our residents and protect our communities.

T H E S U R P R I S I N G I N S TA N C E W H E R E CASH ISN’T KING In most instances “cash is king,” but when it comes to charitable giving, retirement assets are an often-overlooked “honey hole,” swimming with opportunity just waiting to be caught. Some experts have even called qualified retirement plans “the most significant, yet underutilized category” of all giving options.

When you look beyond liquid assets and cast out into the pond of an IRA or retirement assets, you’ll have an opportunity to give in a way that: 1. Simplifies your giving while providing tax savings. Should you decide to designate retirement assets or IRA proceeds in your will to Union Gospel Mission Dallas or any other charity, you will save on taxes while you give.Your assets will pass directly to us without eligibility of a federal estate tax charitable deduction on the value. 2. Increases your impact. Donating retirement assets to a charity instead of giving cash means you can give from pre-tax assets and save your cash while your distribution does not count toward taxable income. 3. Leaves a legacy. When you include a charitable gift in your estate plan to a charity or cause you’re passionate about, it helps to sustain the organization’s future and impact lives. It’s also a beautiful part of the legacy you’ll leave behind. Bless your family today with a God-honoring Will at giftwise.com/ugmdallas. For questions visit, ugmlegacygifts.org.
