COMMUNITY NEWS

UNDER GEORGIA LAW GOLF CARTS ARE LIKE CARS, ACT RESPONSIBLY AND APPLY THE SAME STANDARDS TO OUR GOLF CARTS AS WE DO OUR CARS. Drivers of golf carts and cars must have a valid driver’s license. You don’t allow your unlicensed children to drive your car (or be in a car driven by someone under-age), so don’t let them drive a golf cart if they don’t have a license or be in a cart with an unlicensed driver. Misconduct in a golf cart, like a car, can result in injury to yourself and others. This behavior can also result in personal liability, plus civil and criminal prosecution that risks financial ruin for the family of the offending individual. It is advisable to check your auto and homeowners insurance policy for golf cart coverage.

SQUEEGEES & BATT TOWELS ARE HERE FOR YOUR RAINY-DAY RELIEF As the summer weather is upon us, please remember there are multiple tools at our courts to help dry your courts. They each serve a specific purpose, so in order to extend the life of these tools, please use them accordingly. Upon arriving at your wet court, please use a roller or pull squeegee to spread out the large amounts of collected water. The BATT towels are to be used once the water has been dispersed to help dry the court in a more efficient manner. Please watch this quick video on the proper way to use the BATT towel here: https://battowel.com/video Please remember to hang the squeegees and BATT towels back up on the inside of the fence when you have finished using them.

NEED TO RESERVE A COURT? The reservation system we have been using the last few years has been bought out and absorbed by another online application. Beginning in July, we will transition from Kourts.com to a new app called Playtomics. We are still working with the new vendor on the transition, so be on the lookout for information on the weekly e-mail updates from Bobby and on the Windermere Tennis Facebook page. Please ensure that your contact information on the association website (www.windermerecommunity.net) is updated to include email addresses and cell phone numbers, as this is required information to register for the Playtomics app.

PET TIPS

Pet Hamster If you’re thinking about getting a hamster, it’s important to learn about their needs, makeup, etc. They are typically low maintenance pets, but proper care is essential to keeping them happy and healthy. Sadly, their life expectancy is fairly short. On average, hamsters live about 18-36 months. They do better housed alone so don’t crowd them in a cage with “friends”! Hamsters come in various colors and breeds and different breeds are known for their distinctive traits. Chinese Hamster - Not a very common breed. They only grow to be 4 inches long. Dwarf Hamster - There are several varieties such as Roborovskis and Russian. Similar to Chinese, but more commonly found in pet stores. Syrian Hamsters - Come in several color variations and go by different names such as goldens, panda and teddy bears. They are much larger than Dwarf and Chinese hamsters and are the most commonly seen type of hamster. CHOOSING A HEALTHY HAMSTER Not every pet store hamster is in great health. Moving from a breeder to a store creates stress for baby hamsters and they will often get sick. Look for an active one that doesn’t appear to have a wet “rear end” or watery eyes. Both eyes should be open and ideally he will be eating or running around the cage. If a cage seems to have a few sick hamsters, it’s probably best to avoid buying any hamsters from that group since hamster diseases are very contagious.

happy. Hamsters tend to pick and choose what they want to eat from seed mixtures, therefore, they do NOT receive a balanced diet. It’s best to offer a pelleted diet and supplement it with some greens. Parsley, kale, romaine, peas and squash are all good options. Their diet should be made up of 75% fortified pellets, 20% veggies, greens & fruits and 5% treats. Also, a good idea is to provide hay in his environment to help with nesting and foraging. Most hamsters will also eat the immature seeds in the hay. Its best to place their food in a bowl. They may ingest their bedding and cause serious health issues. HOUSING Aim for a minimum of 24 inches by 12 inches and at least 12 inches tall. However, bigger is always better to keep them active and happy. They need daily exercise so definitely place a wheel in the cage. You will need to scoop the feces from the cage weekly and change the entire bedding once a month. GROOMING Never a need to bathe or comb your hamster. However, a quick spot cleaning may be necessary from time to time if hay gets stuck to their bottom. Overall, they are fastidious groomers and do a good job.

FEEDING Most of us assume that a store-bought bag of hamster seed is what is best, but they actually need a variety of proteins, fruits and veggies to keep them healthy and

Amenity Cards: the amenity access cards should be given to the buyer at closing from seller. If not, the buyer or seller may purchase them from the association for $25 per card (maximum of 2 cards).

We have just been informed that Red Oak Sanitation is no longer servicing the smaller 18 gallon recycle containers as the new recycling trucks operate with a mechanical arm staffed by only one person. For those who have the smaller 18 gallon containers, you need to contact Red Oak at 678-455-7819 to have them switched out to either a 65 or 95 gallon container. 20
