2018 Most Fit Company Awards presented at the HealthSmart Expo Presentation of Most Fit Company Awards took place at the 12th Annual HealthSmart Breakfast on October 17. Judging criteria for the contest included wellness, nutrition and fitness opportunities provided for employees. Chamber Healthcare Committee Chair Dr. Dave Westfall, Emory-Rollins School of Public Health, presents Most Fit Company Award to Kathleen Owen of the Georgia Poultry Improvement Association, winner Small Employer Category (50 or less employees): The Georgia Poultry Improvement Association provides monitoring and diagnostic services from farm to table to contribute to the safety and health of poultry flocks, eggs and poultry products. With 48 employees, they work to keep Georgia’s poultry industry healthy. A Certified Drug-Free Workplace through the Georgia State Board of Workers Compensation, they promote employee wellness through premium incentives and a rewards program. Many employees walk or run in groups on company property during breaks. They encourage good nutrition through e-mail newsletters, and healthy eating options are available in the break room. The company has 240 employees and recently added a new mile walking trail around their facility so employees can exercise on-site. They have an occupational health nurse on staff who assists in monitoring employee health and performs wellness checks, have an annual flu shot event and an on-site metabolic screening day. Employees and spouses who participate in the screenings receive a monetary incentive to use for health services. ProCare Rx employees accept award for Most Fit Company in the Large Employer Category ( 251+ employees). ProCare Rx provides low cost pharmacy benefit management systems and services. The company processed their first pharmacy claim in 1994, and today, with 450 employees, processes millions of claims every year. ProCare’s wellness program called Healthy by Choice is run by an RN, assisted by a health coach and a fitness instructor. They offer financial incentives for participation in annual screenings and for being tobacco free, as well as for annual wellness visits to the employee’s physician, dentist and health coaching. They offer participants paid time to exercise and have a staff member that offers exercise classes as well as consultations for creating a personalized workout program. Youth Leadership experienced a day learning about etiquette and quality of life. Dario Perla of Master's Apparel and Abby Murray with Style Collectíf started the morning with tips on how to dress for success when job interviewing. The group traveled to My Sister's Place Upscale Boutique where Brandee Thomas assisted the students in a team building exercise to find appropriate career attire while sticking to a budget. Six North Georgia craftsmen (and craftswomen) were honored as masters of their trade at the 7th Annual Master Craftsmen Awards Program at Lanier Technical College in October. Carl Rogers, VP of Economic Development for Lanier Tech, moderated the event that was founded by the late Gus Whalen, a visionary who designed the series of events to honor master craftsmen, teachers, nurses and entrepreneurs. Rogers said paying tribute to men and women with unique skills that allow the community to see how valuable such trades are.
