Economic Impact of Quality Healthcare With our premier location, surrounded by beautiful Lake Sidney Lanier, the area offers an unparalleled quality of life and a sound economic future for business and industry. In addition to growing and expanding industries, Gainesville-Hall County continues to have robust activity in retail development, tourism and healthcare services. The growing healthcare sector is adding to our quality of life and economic outlook.
Perry Barnett, CPA Ruston Chairman, Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce
A 2017 study by the Greater Hall Chamber indicates Hall County is served by 338 Health Care Service Providers that employ nearly 12,600, or 15.4% of the Hall County workforce, producing approximately $575 million in annual wages. Almost 80% of those jobs are located in the region’s healthcare epicenter in Gainesville-Hall County.
Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) continues to rank as one of the nation's leading healthcare organizations, and Northeast Georgia Medical Center has ranked as Georgia’s top cardiac care hospital for 11 consecutive years. NGHS is developing a graduate medical education program with an estimated $66 million economic impact on the Hall County economy from 2019-2023, with an additional $18 million local economic impact predicted for each year after. The program is anticipated to generate over 90 additional community jobs in 2019, rising to as many as 300 jobs by 2023. NGMC has surpassed the $1.5 billion mark in local and state economic impact, according to an annual study conducted by the Georgia Hospital Association. Access to world-class healthcare services right here in Gainesville-Hall County is one of our strongest assets in economic and workforce development. The Chamber's Healthcare Committee has been the catalyst for connecting Health & Wellness Initiatives to local businesses and oversees a set of community-wide programs and events. The committee meets monthly to discuss access to healthcare, wellness programs and benefits, healthcare services, legislative issues, health insurance and other important health and wellness topics. Now in its 11th year, the HealthSmart Wellness Expo on October 11 will feature some 60 booth exhibits providing interactive wellness services. The event, free and open to the public, focuses on community health and wellness including FREE Community Health Screenings by Longstreet Clinic. We'll also be announcing the Most Fit Company Awards. I am thankful to live in a community with such a strong economy, surrounded by natural beauty, numerous outdoor activities, and access to world-class healthcare.

ZF Celebrates 30th Anniversary
The University of North Georgia’s (UNG) economic impact on Northeast Georgia topped $625 million for fiscal year 2016. According to an annual study by the University System of Georgia's (USG), UNG's impact on the communities in its region rose nearly 15%, or $81 million, from the previous year. The economic impact of UNG is a measure of direct and indirect spending that contributes to the 30-county service region served by the university. "This study shows that UNG’s commitment toward advancing economic growth and prosperity in the areas we serve is right on target," President Bonita C. Jacobs said. "Each and every day, UNG’s students, faculty and staff are contributing to our community to produce high-performing graduates ready to enter the workforce, and serve as a catalyst for economic development."
City of Gainesville Mayor Danny Dunagan and City Officials Barbara Brooks and Bryan Lackey; Oakwood Mayor Lamar Scroggs and Hall County Chairman Richard Higgins joined ZF officials Dr. Franz Kleiner, Member, Board of Management, ZF Friedrichshafen AG; Dr. Hans F. Collenberg; ZF Head of Business Unit CV Powertrain Modules; Elizabeth Umberson, ZF North America Head of Materials Management; Brandon Loftus, Head of ZF Gainesville, to celebrate ZF's 30 years in Gainesville-Hall County. A joint proclamation claiming September 23 as "ZF Day” was presented by Gainesville, Oakwood and Hall County governments. ZF is a global leader in driveline and chassis technology, as well as active and passive safety technology. In 1987, ZF opened its first North American production facility on Palmour Drive in Gainesville to build manual transmissions for the automotive industry. Since the opening, ZF has grown in Gainesville-Hall County and throughout North America. ZF’s four facilities in Hall County, including two facilities in Gainesville and two in Oakwood, employ more than 1,000 associates. Since 1987, the company’s North American presence has grown to approximately 31,900 employees in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, designing and manufacturing technology for the automobile, truck and industrial sectors. zf.com
UNG, with five campuses, had a regional employment impact of 6,204 jobs in the same period. The employment numbers include on-campus positions and off-campus jobs that exist due to the institution. Most of UNG's $625,883,204 economic impact consists of initial spending by the university for salaries and benefits, operating supplies and expenses, and other budgeted expenditures. Included in UNG’s economic impact is $260 million in spending by UNG’s more than 17,000 students, which alone resulted in 3,305 jobs in the study area. Public colleges and universities that comprised the USG in 2016 had a total impact of $16.8 billion on the state. The study found that Georgia's public university system generated over 150,000 full- and part-time jobs. The report also noted that on average, for each job created on campus, there are two off-campus jobs that exist because of spending related to the institution. For the complete report, visit usg.edu

Hollis Transport Agency, Inc. was founded by Ron Hollis, Sr. and Jamie Hollis in 1979. Ron started the business with a single truck delivering newspapers and theatre supplies in Northeast Georgia. The company expanded and began hauling computer forms, soft drinks, tires, auto parts, feed ingredients and more. The business took off and soon a new freight terminal was built in 1988. Ron's son Brian is now president of the company. Under Brian's direction, Hollis Transport applied for their own trucking authority and a new path for the company was born. Hollis Transport started hauling truckload freight and soon Brian picked up their first warehousing account. Today, Hollis Transport celebrates 38 years of outstanding service with customers across the U.S. They specialize in just-in-time truckload deliveries, warehousing and 48-state-truck-brokering. Hollis Transport & Distribution moved to Flowery Branch in 2005 on a 40 acre site with 500,000 square feet of warehouse space. 4515 Cantrell Road, Flowery Branch GA 30542. 770-965-8930.
