Economic Vitality through Public Art Sponsored by the Greater Hall Chamber and funded by the Chamber's HALLmark Initiative, Vision 2030 is a community project coordinated by volunteers leading long-term initiatives, defined by the citizens, to position Gainesville-Hall County as the most enviable community in Georgia by the year 2030. The group champions these initiatives and propels them forward through collaborative partnerships with government, education, business, and non-profits. The Chamber's VISION 2030 began its Public Art Initiative in spring 2015 seeking to enhancing the lives of citizens and the community’s long-term economic vitality through public artworks. Under the direction of Elizabeth Higgins, Vision 2030 Executive Director, committee chair Frank Norton Jr., The Norton Agency, and the steering committee: Amanda McClure, Perry Barnett, CPA Quinlan Art Center; Katie Crumley, Hall County Government; Tina Carlson, Rushton Chairman, Greater Hall Morton Vardeman & Carlson; Gladys Wyant, The Arts Council, Joey Summer; Chamber of Commerce Clayton Santiago, Whitney Brown, Jack Burd and LeTrell Simpson, several outstanding initiatives have been launched including a Public Art Walking Tour & Map and Free Range Public Art throughout Gainesville-Hall County. Fifty-five works of art in a variety of media were cataloged in 2015, and 78 new pieces have been installed since then! Most recently the Public Art Committee introduced its newest art adventure – Brenau Urban Rural Discovery Secrets or 2030 BURDS that can be “discovered” throughout our community. We invite community members, and visitors alike, to be aware and let us know when and where you find one of these distinctive creatures. Post your discoveries on social media to #2030BURDS.
Purchase your own 2030 BURD for $100 and a BURD will be placed in the community. BURDS may be purchased at the Chamber, The Norton Agency, Access WDUN, and the Quinlan Art Center.
