As We Grow...
By: Gary Hulion
As we grow (now over 710 homes) there is more traffic, more people out walking Summer is here!!!!! With that, there is a lot of things going on around the clubhouse and amenities. Kolter is closing homes each week which means we have new residents everywhere. More people, equal more automobiles and golf carts. As a reminder, all golf carts must be registered at the front office in order to drive in the community. It also worth reminding, that all operators of golf carts must be a licensed driver, even on the weekends. Please keep in mind that when we are having major events, using the golf carts help us with parking issues. Please consider this as we attempt to locate a golf cart parking location. We are also experiencing problems with the Marina being used for personal trash placement. The cans at the marina should only be used for marina waste. Because someone is putting large amounts of household trash there, it is costing the association additional fees to have the waste company come out and make additional pickups. This results in higher HOA fees that all of you must pay.

Dock “A” has been placed back on the landing and can now be used by all residents. The lake level has increased to the point that it is safe to use and does not create a maintenance concern for the dock itself. Remember unless you own a slip on Dock ”B”, “C” or “D” the only public use areas are “A” Dock and the East (uncovered) end of “D” Dock. The Handicap ramp located next to the Flag pole at the club hose has been installed; the electronics for the door will be installed very soon. The AED’s (Automatic Electronic Defibulators) have been ordered and should arrive by mid-June. They will be located at the Pavilion on the back lawn, at the Tennis courts next to the water fountain, and two additional units in the clubhouse on the first and third floor levels beside the elevator. The unit in the Fitness Room will remain where it is located, just outside the Fitness Office. Please be safe and have a wonderful summer! July/August | The Waterfall | Page 5

Cresswind LL Community Fund
Education Committee By: Bob Rivers
The Community Fund has been very active this quarter, receiving support from Cresswind Clubs as well as attracting many Gainesville community sponsors. Two Cresswind projects supported in whole or in part by the Fund have been accomplished recently. A stretching table has been installed in the Fitness Center. Handicapped access (including a walkway and door) to the clubhouse has been constructed. At its May 2017 meeting, the Board awarded a $2100 grant to the Gainesville Guest House for a music therapy program for seniors. Cresswind residents can join the fund for a tax-deductible
By: Doug Geganto The Education Committee has presented 16 educational and informational programs through May 31st of this year. Our programs have been attended by 435 residents. We have many more programs scheduled through the remainder of 2017. We are confident that our residents will find something of interest to attend. If you have an idea for an educational program, please contact us. Seven of the 16 programs we have completed were suggested by your neighbors. We hope to see you at one of our programs.
Transition Committee
By: Bob Rivers
Written by Jan Cieply and Micky Irvin and sung to “The Halls of Montezuma”
The Transition to Turnover Committee continues to work on various policy, issues, and amenity plans that must be completed prior to Turnover, estimated to be July 1, 2019. Recently the Board approved an amended structure for the Committee. The Committee now consists of five workgroups. They are: Amenities, Engineering, Finance, Governance and Rules and Regulations. The Board, its committees, Clubs, and any resident may make recommendations to the Transition Committee through the Community Manager, Gary Hulion. He will communicate the proposals to the Transition Committee. The Transition Committee and/or its working groups will consider each proposal. Major proposals with significant support from the committee will be sent to the entire community for feedback and comment.
From the falls at Cresswind’s entry way To our docks on Lake Lanier We will greet our neighbors with a smile And a wave that’s sure to cheer.
At present, the Transition Committee chair meets with the Community Board at its monthly meetings to keep the Board informed on its deliberations and to make minor recommendations that move the process forward.

Bowling Update
By: Phil Vinyard
The Cresswind Bowling League has decided to bowl in Buford next season at the Stars and Strikes Bowling Alley following two seasons of bowling in Gainesviille. Quality of the lanes and overall alley conditions as well as cost and service were the overriding factors in this difficult decision, outweighing the convenience of bowling in Gainesville. Our third season will begin on Wednesday, September 6th and run for 28 weeks. The cost is $10 per week per bowler. There will be an organizational meeting in mid-August to finalize teams and prepare for the league start. This is a fun league that is open to all Cresswind residents regardless of skill level. Anyone interested should look for the meeting announcement in the Daily Update and plan on attending.
Cresswind Dinner Group By: Karen Silverthorn
Dinner Group will resume in the fall! All members, please make note of the dinner dates for the coming season: Oct. 7th, Nov. 4th, Feb. 3rd/18 and Mar. 3rd/18. The steering committee has chosen some great themed menus for the next year. October will be an Italian meal and November’s dinner will have a mid-west twist. A ‘20’s’ menu is set for February and the final meal of the season in March will be a ‘white’ theme. Interested in trying new ingredients and new dishes? Anyone can join at any time and all recipes are provided. Join the Dinner Group and enjoy interesting dishes while meeting new neighbors around an elegant dinner table. Food and beverage costs (average $35 - $55 per pair/couple) are shared equally among participants at each house. There are four couples/pairs of people assigned to a house. Each dinner, residents are rotated so members will always meet new neighbors. If you are interested in joining the Dinner Group, email the coordinator (Karen Silverthorn, silk3349@charter.net) to be added to the Dinner Group email list. There are no fees for Dinner Group, but you must be a paid member of the Cooking Club. Guidelines for the Dinner Group are posted on the Cooking Club website. Come join the fun – very meal is an adventure! Page 12 | The Waterfall | July/August
Cresswinds LL Veterans Inc By: Roy Gogel
The new 501(c)(3) charity which was considered since 2014 is an extension of the existing and on-going Veterans’ Club. The charity clearly separates donations and associated items. Its mission is charitable and educational assisting the needy and homeless with an emphasis on Veterans and their families - regardless of age. The Veterans Club’s membership is continuing its primary mission, serving many throughout the greater Hall County community. The Veterans’ charity established a scholarship to a Veteran attending the University of North Georgia based strictly on financial need. Additionally, the Veterans started planning for the Third Annual Silent Auction on September 9th. The Sock Hops, the Sixties Quartet loved by residents, are performing. If you want to contribute to the charity and have a vacation home, time share, airplane ride, boat ride, or something else, contact us. In addition, ideas and introductions to interested contributors are appreciated. Contact us at www.cresswindveterans.org.
Fishing Club News Cresswind fishermen have been busy catching fish for a fishermen’s fish fry and the Cooking Club’s Taste of Lanier party- a ton of delicious fish was enjoyed by everyone. Crappie, spotted bass, and striped bass have been caught in our cove in big numbers this spring. The Cresswind aquarium has been very entertaining with a bunch of 30-35 inch stripers visible some nights. The fishermen had a “shore clean up” last month and removed unsightly trash from our cove. Congratulations to Tom Brown and Stanley Kopkin for catching this 25 pound monster at the mouth of the Cresswind cove. Toby took one look at this fish and said, “I don’t recommend the men go skinny dipping in our cove.”

Cresswind Welcomes the Farmstand – A New Adventure for Us! By: Robin Riegel
Throughout the month of June and into July, Cresswind residents will have the chance to enjoy locally grown fresh produce at The Farmstand. There will be locally sourced, seasonal produce, baked goods, flowers, crafts, fresh seafood, local beef, eggs, and sausages. The Farmstand made a commitment to bring only home grown, pesticide free, handmade, handcrafted produce and goods to our residents. On Thursday, May 18th, from 9 to 12 pm the first Farmstand hosted 23 local vendors and artists. Residents delighted in the selections and the vendors were eager to return as their gardens produce more. In addition, two local animal shelters introduced several dogs up for adoption and educated pet owners about vaccinations and micro chipping to keep their pets safe. Please check the Daily Updates, The Farmstand Facebook page and the sign board in the clubhouse for Farmstand dates, times, and produce available. This is run by residents, for residents; so join the party. Eat healthy, learn about farming, and enjoy the bounty of NE Hall County Farmers. And a huge thanks to everyone who made this possible. Garden Club By: Bob Rivers In the past, the Cresswind Garden Club has excellent educational presentations at its monthly meetings and has sponsored the Community Garden box holders group. This year, five additional boxes were constructed in the garden. A new Farm Stand initiative has resulted in a Farmers Market for Cresswind that will operate seasonally, providing fresh organic vegetables as well as meats, farm products, and crafts. It is being held on announced Thursday mornings from 9-12 am. Another major change this year was the addition of garden-related trips to the surrounding north Georgia region. The first trip was to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens-Gainesville. The second trip was to the Thompson Mill Arboretum, a project of the Forestry School at UGA. The Club is planning an all-day trip to the Georgia Botanical Garden and trial gardens at UGA on July 11th. Contact Melanie Altman, Treasurer, for trip details.

Fun With Fashions By: Harriet Gershkovitz
This past April, the Fun With Fashions Club held a Men’s and Ladies Fashion Show presented by Dillards at the Mall of Georgia. Attendees were served an Italian Dinner catered by Little Italy in Gainesville and again we were wowed by the talent of our fabulous Cresswind models. A great time was had by all. Look What the Cooking Club Has Planned for the Summer! By: Paula King, President
The Cooking Club is one of the largest and most active clubs in the community and just this spring we organized four amazing large events sponsored by Grill & Ale & Fun with Food sub groups. The Afternoon Tea brought elegance and beautiful table settings, the Kentucky Derby Party was “hats off ” a definite blast, and the Fish Fry was delicious fun as we just beat the rain. Italian Night was spectacular and the food amazing. Our Luau will be, as always, great fun. And who can wait for the next Flozzy Ball? – it is a HOOT. Do not miss this! We also have smaller events centering around the very popular sub group Healthy Eating with demonstrations, speakers, and much more, plus Cooking Class with events on how to learn new foods and techniques like the recent Wine and Appetizer tasting. Dinner group will start up again in the fall. And if that is not enough, we are also working on a Cresswind Cookbook. All our events and projects are run by Cooking Club member volunteers. It is easy to join just drop off a check for $5.00 per person in the Cooking Club mailbox and you will be added to the mailing list for all events and planning sessions. Please put “membership” and email address in memo line of check. Get involved! It is a great way to meet new friends. Hope to see you at our next event!

RV Club: On the Road Again! By: Joyce Plawecki
We’ll Do The Dirty Job For You! Privately owned and operated since 1989! Personal Touch has continued to grow due to it’s reputation and excellent service.
The Cresswind RV Group recently enjoyed a week in the beautiful mountains of Lake Toxaway, North Carolina at the Riverbend RV Resort. Eleven Cresswind couples enjoyed hiking, shopping, and visiting various eateries in the area. The most important part of the day was “happy hour” at 5 pm when everyone gathered at the campground gazebo to talk about their day and enjoy refreshing drinks. Thank you to Brenda and Sam Crosby for hosting this campout and making sure everyone enjoyed their stay. If you are interested in becoming a member of the RV Group and would like to take part in these fun trips, please contact Anthony McElroy. The more the merrier!
The name was chosen because our goal is to provide a “personal touch” for all of our customers.

The Quilting Group By: Evelyne Palmer The Quilters Group made our first presentation of twenty comfort quilts for our donation project benefiting Seniors in need in Gainesville at the end of June 2017. We have started working on TWO quilts for the Cresswind Holiday Market in October 2017. This means you have twice the chance of being the lucky recipient! Watch for the quilts on display in September. Among the fall projects planned is a quilted Christmas tree skirt. Each week new ideas and projects pop up! The Group meets on Thursdays of each week in the Arts & Crafts Room from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. We have all levels of Quilters, from beginner to experienced! We welcome new prospective members to stop by and meet the members and see the work we do. Come join in the fun! Tennis Club News By: Debbie Cortjens
The members of the Tennis Club have been busy the past few months. The Ladies finished their USTA season and the Men completed their Silverball competition. The Ladies also hosted a group from Deaton Creek for a mixer and lunch. It was a lot of fun and enjoyed by all. We are currently in the middle of a Mixed Tournament with Day and Evening Teams. Our clinics led by Bill Papciak and his capable assistants have been huge successes. We will continue clinics this summer and fall. There will be dedicated days for Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Players. We are playing earlier during the summer months. Mixed Open Play on Tuesday and Friday, Men Open Play on Wednesday, all start at 9:00 am. We are a fun group and all interested players are always welcome. Just drop into an Open Play day. Questions, contact Debbie Cortjens – debbie.cortjens@gmail.com.

Neighborhood Theatre By: Bert Emma
Thank you all who attended “We the People, the Musical” and experienced a joyous celebration of America! We hope you enjoyed it and appreciate your support. Our next play is by an author who according to the Guinness World Records is the best-selling writer of all time selling roughly two billion copies and this author’s works come third in rankings of the world’s most-widely published books, behind only Shakespeare’s works and the Bible. So, CNT’s next play will be that classic who-dunnit “Witness for the Prosecution” by Agatha Christie. Paul Brown will be the Director with Scott Larson as Assistant Director. We ask that for the greater entertainment of your friends who have not yet seen the play, that you not divulge, to anyone, the secret of the ending of “Witness for the Prosecution”. Did he do it or did he not? Save the dates – November 9th through the 12th

Veterans Club By Arnie Miesch The Veterans Club formed a 501(c)(3) charity called the Cresswind LL Veterans Inc as an extension of the existing and on-going Club. Membership and miscellaneous revenues and expenses will continue to flow through the Club, but the charity allows a pure separation of donations and related activities. It is much cleaner, preserving the sanctity of the charity with the worthiness of the Club mission open to all Cresswind residents regardless of military service. Club members remain active in Hospice with both recognition of patients who served their nation and on-going visits and support. Likewise, other ongoing programs like regular and continuing support of the local Superior Court and assisting Veterans in their employment search remain active. If you are downsizing and have excess furniture, appliances, or bicycles, the Veterans can coordinate their pick-up and donation to a needy Veteran. Contact us at www.cresswindveterans.org.

Music at Cresswind By: Jerry Volante
“Music is therapy… Music moves people. It connects people in ways that no other medium can. It pulls heart strings. It acts as medicine” Maclemore
Don’t Miss Bocce Open Play!
With this “message” in mind, I would like to again bring together those Cresswinders who play, or used to play, a musical instrument. We had about 40+ people the last time we gathered, and it was clear that the love of playing music is still alive in all of us! What a wonderful basis for nurturing a “shared connection” and/or some enduring friendships with other Cresswinders! So, regardless of your type of instrument, PLAYING SKILL LEVEL, or the length of time since you’ve last played your instrument, I would like to encourage you to pick up your instrument and learn to play a few songs that others might play along with you. Watch the Daily Update for our next musical gathering.

By: Janet Nelson
The Shalom Group recently had a brunch to Celebrate the Holiday of Shavuot. Shavuot is known as the Festival of the Giving of the Torah as well as a harvest holiday. Please save the date of September 24th at 2:00 pm. The Shalom Group will be presenting “The Paper Clip”, which is a movie depicting the collection of Paper Clips by students in the Whitwell Middle School in a small rural Tennessee town who were trying to gain knowledge and understanding of tolerance through a Holocaust education program. Representatives from Whitwell Middle School will be presenting the movie and discussing the project that the school and community undertook. This event is open to the entire Cresswind Community and is free of charge. The Shalom Group meets the last Sunday of the month at 10 am. Please contact Harriet or Dan Gershkowitz for more information regarding the Shalom Group.
“
This adventurous group had a dance party, Rockin’ with the Oldies in May. We asked all to bring in high school photos and selected a King and Queen based on those. Gary Hulion served as DJ with John Prentice as the brains behind the event. We also took an excursion to Gibbs Gardens at the end of May. The last Monday of each month, we go bowling at the local bowling alley. For June, we are meeting outside for a picnic on June 11th as well as lunch at Fish Tales by the Marina on June 23rd.
Fockele Garden Company transformed our garden from dull to delightful . . . creating a peaceful, relaxing retreat that we love spending time in.
”
The entire Fockele team was so friendly and professional throughout the design and installation process, and even jump-started our own interest in gardening. Stepping outside now is like going on a mini-vacation every day. We couldn’t be more pleased! —Paul Brown and Betsy Robertson, Cresswind residents
