Parking?????
By: Gary Hulion
As we continue to grow as a community, parking becomes more and more of a premium. The property was developed within the guidelines of the City of Gainesville and Hall County, and the clubhouse has all of the parking spaces accounted for as required for our Master Plan. The City mandated the parking according to the number of homes that were recorded in the master plan, including handicap requirements. As for street parking, the roads within Cresswind are considered private and do not have to meet the same requirements that public streets do. Having said this, the Charter for Cresswind prohibits street parking, except for construction and deliveries which must occur during daylight hours. Parking in cul-de-sacs is also prohibited because of the fact that emergency vehicles require a much larger turning radius than our standard vehicles. The Fire Marshall has indicated to us that they make random inspections of the property and in the event a vehicle is found to be parked in a cul-de-sac, it can be towed or fined for the violation. Because of the very nature of our community and medical conditions that exist, I am asking each of you to refrain from parking in the cul-de-sac. We want to be able to get you the help you need when you need it and remember, it could be you that needs help.
Transition to Turnover Committee By: Bob Rivers The Transition to Turnover Committee has been active in the past two months, sending recommendations to the Advisory Committee and Board on the turnover of governance to residents. Those recommendations were adopted and implemented by the Board. As a result, a new seven-member resident community board was established on Monday, March 27th. The T to T Committee then began work on developing financial and operational policy recommendations to the newly installed resident board. Some of those recommendations will be presently to the Board at its April 12th, 2017 meeting. The Committee, in collaboration with the Long-Range Planning Committee, has formed an engineering study group, led by John Mauldin. The mission of this group is to work with Rochester Engineering to develop a feasibility study of the proposed amenity area at the back of Phase III. The Board has allocated resources for the study.
CRESSWIND RESIDENT, Madeline Wirt, would like to introduce to you her law partners, John Gram and Cara Mitchell, who specialize in Estate Planning. With a combined 55 years of experience, John and Cara bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to their practice. Comprehensive estate planning advice often involves far more than basic documents such as a will, trust, financial power of attorney and advance directive for health care. Our estate planning group provides strategic planning services tailored to individual wishes and objectives, as well as review and update of your existing documents.

Education Committee
Cresswind Model Railroad Club By: Paul Pormen
By: Doug Geganto The Education Committee has been working diligently to identify and schedule programs that are of interest to all the residents of Cresswind. So far, this year we have presented eight educational programs attended by 249 residents. There are many more programs scheduled through the end of the year. All our upcoming programs will be advertised in the Daily Update.
The newly reorganized Cresswind Model Railroad Club held its first meeting as a club on Saturday, April 1, 2017. The officers for 2017 are, President, Paul Pormen; Vice-President,Bob Wheeler; Secretary-Treasurer, Brian Chapin; At-Large Members - Bill Dickey, Don Naegele; Clubhouse Liaisons - David Jones, Chuck Wharton. Following the business meeting, a modeling clinic was presented by Brian and Bob. The club continues to build model railroad modules that belong to each member. Currently there are 12 modules and more are anticipated as the membership grows. We plan to participate once again in the Breakfast with Santa in December and to put up the modules mid summer and early fall at the Club House for the community to enjoy. If you are interested in being part of this fun hobby, contact any of the officers.
As always, if you have an idea for an education program that you feel would be of interest to the community, please do not hesitate to contact us at dgeganto@charter.net and provide the details. We will see if we can put something together.

Cresswind Wildlife Sanctuary Designation
By: Sarah Galshack
Have you seen the Wildlife Sanctuary sign just beyond the main gate? How did we get this? What does it mean? In 2011, a dedicated group of Cresswind residents decided this would be a good project for the community to undertake. Marsha and Bill Dickey formed a committee, put together a plan and worked with Jacqueline McRae of Atlanta’s Audubon Society to complete the application process. The community goal was to create and enhance our property as a wildlife sanctuary, to increase its value, and provide a critical habitat focusing on birds, butterflies, and other wildlife. To achieve certification, the committee had to identify everything that was growing on the property. This included trees, shrubs, vines, perennials, annuals--a very large job. We were fortunate to have the help of the Elachee Nature Center Education Director Peter Gordon. He went through all of our forested areas and helped identify the trees. Mr. Gordon was quite impressed with the fact that we have a very old virgin forested area.Of course, being the Audubon Society, they were very interested in bird identification. Our resident bird lover, Joyce Reddy, was most helpful in providing this information. It was then time to submit a planting design and box installation plan, we needed to show we had shelter, food, water and nesting sites. We did this aided by Kolter’s Landscape Architect and Landscape contractor. They were very enthusiastic to help us in this process. In early 2012, we were inspected, approved, and granted our sign. It was installed with pride for a job well done. I hope this gives you some insight into how and why we thought this designation was important and beneficial for our community. (Article from 2012 newsletter but still valid and hopefully of interest to new residents)

We also heard a timely message presented by Dr. Bill Coates Pastor of First Baptist Church of Gainesville. The next service is planned for Sunday May 7th. The Club invites everyone to join us weekly as we gather to study God’s Word together. Watch the Daily Updates for details on the Women’s & Men’s meeting days and times.

NEW!! The Veterans Club’s focus is Veterans and their families regardless of age; therefore, a separate charity was formed. Membership is open to all residents - the focus is Veterans, but supporters and members include everyone who is willing to help. Tax deductible donations and memberships ($10) should be made out to Cresswind LL Veterans Inc and deposited in the mailbox in the Clubhouse. Our annual Silent Auction this year will be on Saturday, September 9th, to include music and dancing. Our website remains at www.cresswindveterans.org. Several residents have inquired as to how to dispose of tattered United States flags. To properly dispose of a flag, turn it in to the Front Desk or contact Don Naegele directly who coordinates flag disposals with the American Legion.

Garden Club
By: Bob Rivers
This spring, the Garden Club has again assigned boxes in Common Ground, our community garden. The box holders held a “Clean Up the Garden” day on April 8th. Soil analysis kits were distributed to box holders so they can add needed plant nutrients to their plot. This year, we are planning to cooperate with other groups to develop a community garden project. Our part of the project will be to grow organic fresh vegetables for sale in our community. Look for an announcement in the Daily Update. In addition to our regular educational sessions, we are making a visit to the Atlanta Botanical Garden Gainesville on April 18th. Trip cost is $10.00. Residents are invited. For details, see the Daily Update. On May 9th, we will be traveling to the Thompson Mill Arboretum for a presentation on Georgia Trees. Interesting in Joining? Turning Pages at Cresswind
By: Judy Pallo
Cresswind now has twelve active book clubs, one of which is designated for our gentlemen readers. Any male resident who enjoys discussing books, please contact Chuck Wharton for details about this group. A couple of the other book clubs currently have openings so interested folks should contact Judy Pallo (judy pallo@aol.com). Cresswind Book Clubs sponsor “author events.” In 2016, we welcomed two authors, Karen White and Wendy Wax, to speak to our readers. On February 13th, author Jim Auchmuty spoke to 70 readers who enjoyed his presentation. Our 4th author event will be held in August. All are welcome, even if not a book club member. Watch for more information in the next Waterfall issue and the Daily Updates. May/June | The Waterfall | Page 19

Cresswind Dinner Group By: Karen Silverthorn
Dinner Group completed its 5th year in our community this spring. Dinners will resume in the fall. Members may wish to note these dates of next season: Oct, 7th, Nov. 4th, Feb. 3rd/18 and Mar. 3rd/18. Interested in trying new ingredients and new dishes? Anyone can join at any time and all recipes are provided. Join the Dinner Group and enjoyed menus from around the world while meeting new neighbors around the dinner table. Food and beverage costs (average $35 - $50 per couple) are shared equally among the eight participants at each house. There are 4 couples/pairs of people assigned to a house. Each dinner, residents are rotated so members are always meeting new neighbors. If you are interested in joining the Dinner Group, email the coordinator (Karen Silverthorn, silk3349@charter.net) to be added to the Dinner Group email list. There are no fees for Dinner Group, but you must be a paid member of the Cooking Club. Come join the fun – every meal is an adventure!
Certified Caregivers to assist with all activities of daily living. Nurses conduct patient and environmental assessments and coordinate the care provided. If your family member, friend, or loved one enjoys their independence but is struggling with everyday activities, we are the solution.

Cresswind Fishing Club News By: Toby Kelley
Forty-two fishermen and fisherwomen attended our fourth annual Cresswind Fishing School. Professor Jim Mathley ( Jimbo on Lanier) must have taught us a lot because we are catching a ton of fish this spring- enough fish to feed you at the Cooking Club’s “Taste of Lanier” dinner in May. Come sample the delicious fish of Lanier caught by your neighbors and cleaned by super fisherman Tom Brown . Upcoming events may include a trip to a workshop where one of the guides handcrafts fishing lures, a half day school, and “mentored group fish” for a limited number of “first time or haven’t fish in years” anglers. Email John Kelley to be included on the club email list- you won’t want to miss our occasional semi spontaneous group fish outings.

Spring Field Day
By: Chuck Bridwell
Charity Bingo Night By: Chuck Bridwell
MAY 13th 11am - 2pm
MAY 13th 11am - 2pm
The Sports and Games Club will be having their annual Spring Field Day on the Back Lawn on Saturday, May 13th at 11:00am2:00pm. Cost is only $5 a person (whether or not you eat) and wristbands will go on sale on Monday, April 17th.
Our bingo nights are always fun, but for the next one we are going to have a strong purpose as well. On Tuesday night, June 6th at 7:00pm, our Charity Bingo Night is going to benefit the charities of the Cresswind LL Community Fund.
A hamburger and hotdog lunch will be served with all the trimmings including chips, dessert and drinks. Activities will include Pickleball, Bocce Ball, Horseshoes, Golfball Driving Fun, Kayak demo, Bean Bag Toss, Ping Pong, Mini Golf, Shuffleboard and other games including a Giant Inflatable Hoops Shooting Game. In addition, there will be a Sports Expo with information about other sports like pool, tennis, bowling, fantasy football, basketball, and more.
Every dollar that comes from wristband sales will go for this purpose. All expenses for the night for prizes and food will be taken from proceeds from past bingo nights. We expect a sellout of 130 people, so $1,300.00 will go directly to charity. Wristbands for this event are $10 each and will go on sale on Monday, May 8th. We will still have all the game prizes, door prizes and grand prize that we usually do - all the normal fun, but this time a great purpose as well.
Don’t miss this event. Every year over 200 Cresswinders join the fun. It is a great way to mix with friends and meet new people.

Mark your calendars for May 25th thru 28th to see the preamble of the Constitution of the United States brought to life by our own Cresswind actors, singers, and dancers.Do not miss this poignant story of the history and heritage of our great Nation. There is no better way to celebrate America than with beautiful, patriotic music with America’s favorite anthems and poignant and uplifting original compositions. Everyday life is showcased in both funny and touching vignettes, offering a variety of moods as it explores the patchwork quilt of American life. You will not want to miss this one! Everyone will gain a stronger appreciation for what makes this country unique and great today and will be touched by this fine illustration of how the United States of America is made up first and foremost of “We the People.”
NEW! On Saturday, June 17th, come and participate in Cresswind’s own Family Feud! As on television, this game is fun! Come, find out for yourself. Form a six person team or form a team there, or jump up when individuals are asked to come forward. Earn your chance to win an exciting prize! Otherwise, the Cresswind Performing Arts Club (CPAC) is continuing its efforts to deliver superb opportunities to participate in, or be entertained by, the arts and other forms of entertainment. Separate articles address Community Chorus’ April performances and Theatre’s May play. If you play or did play a musical instrument, Small Bands are burgeoning. Another new area is Play Scripts - read and discuss a play, then attend a local performance. Delve in and you’ll enjoy the play at a different level. Genealogy Club By: Dave Dittmeier To celebrate our one year anniversary, at the February meeting the Genealogy Club hosted a “Taste of the World” where members brought dishes of their ethnic background to share. The German Apple Cake (see photo) is just one sample of the dishes we shared. The gathering was a rousing success. The March meeting included topics: equipment considerations for research, downloading GEDCOM files and utilizing the Unified Census Enumeration District (ED) Finder. April topics will include building a family tree from scratch. The Genealogy Club is open to all residents who are interested in tracing their family tree or leaving a legacy to their family. We meet the 4th Wednesday of the month at 7:00pm in the Ballroom.
