SPRING CARNIVAL 2017 Was So So So Much Fun!

On Saturday, April 8 close to 600 kids, parents, and grandparents came out to the Lakeview Clubhouse recreational area and enjoyed the beautiful sunshine and all the activities! We could not have asked for better weather. Our charity, Carry-on Youth, walked away with a mountain of clothing donations. Thank you so much to all of you that donated! Kids (and adults) danced to top 40 tunes spun by DJ Dan, played games and won AWESOME prizes like Toys “R” Us and Fandango gift cards. Everyone was taking selfies with the fun props and with the Easter Bunny in the photo booth. We had two fun inflatable jumpee houses to play in, we got to pet and play with the cutest farm animals, and got balloon animals and our faces painted with Bubba! We had a few vendors to shop and talk with– DoTerra, Matilda Jane Clothing, Compass Cruise and Travel, GCPAAA, Hamilton Mill Orthodontics and Sparkly Sparrow! We hope everyone was able to shop a little and meet some new faces. Everyone enjoyed the FREE popcorn and cotton candy, and we found a new food truck favorite–Fruit Smashers! You gotta love funnel cakes and smashed lemonade! To wrap up the festivities, we had an Easter Egg hunt for the little ones (3 and under) and 2:45, and then let the big kids take over at 3:30 for their hunt on the terrace. The Easter eggs were filled with candy and toys, and a few lucky kids got the golden eggs with REAL golden dollars inside. Everyone had a BLAST and we want to give a huge shout out to our sponsors Dacula Dojo and Hermes Realty Group. Thank you so much for helping this event happen!

TENNIS TIPS

TENNIS TIPS Strategies for Singles Singles use to be played just during the USTA season or when you wanted to go hit around with your partner. Now with the flex leagues and Hamilton Mill singles league, players are playing all year long. Spring and summer are the most popular, for singles, so it is time to learn how to play. Everything is up to you in singles, but don’t let that stop you. Use this tips and get out and play SINGLES! 1. Consistency in singles. That is why it is number 1. It is difficult to stress how important it is to keep playing the ball back into your opponent’s court. Each time you do that, you make your opponent play another shot and create the chance for a mistake. 2. What type of player are you playing? Your strategy and tactics for each match are dictated to a large extent by the type of player that you are up against. Two common types of opponent are “hardhitters” and “pushers”. Hard hitters play powerful shots, but often make mistakes, so you should try to be as consistent as possible with them and rely on them making more mistakes than you.

6. Down the line shots should be played only rarely from the baseline. Keeping the ball cross court, during the rally, will avoid angles against you. Developing a strategy will be easier with cross court. Hitting down the line, especially to their forehand, will give your opponent an angle that will take you off the court. 7. Follow the ball and move to the net. If your opponent is having trouble with a shot come to the net. Take the same path the ball you hit approaching the net and stop just off the center. Remember if your opponent likes to lob, your approach shot, close just inside the service line. 8. Angle the volley at the net. It is quite possible to win from a corner shot with one volley, but if you play down the middle, it will take at least two volleys to win, or worse, they might lob. See ya on the courts.

Pushers generally camp out at the baseline and hit slower shots, often using slice, giving themselves plenty of recovery time and making it difficult to catch them out of position. As well as keeping your game consistent, you need to take time away from them by stepping in and playing volleys. 3. Try to find other weaknesses in their shots. Some players don’t like high bouncing balls (virtually no one likes a high bouncer on their backhand). How do they deal with overheads? How do they cope with spin? Drop shots? Serves to their body or backhand? Maximize the time that you are utilizing your strongest weapons against your opponent’s weakest ones. 4. Keep your shots deep in the court. Deep shots at the very least make it difficult for your opponent to play a winning shot, and can sometimes put them in trouble, especially if it’s on their backhand. Keeping the ball deep, in the middle of the court, will prevent angles and against you. Also it will make it harder for the player to come to the net. 5. Cross court shots are easier to play than down the line ones. You have more length of court to aim for, it’s easier to hit the ball back in the direction it came from, and the net is lower in the middle, so you are less likely to make mistakes with cross court shots. If your opponent has a better forehand than you, however, you should try to avoid getting into long forehand cross court rallies and try to switch the play to their backhand.

ARTS IN THE PARK

The annual Latina Empowerment Conference is an inspiring, daylong event that draws more than 1,500 Latinas from across the Metro Atlanta area to inspire and empower them to become change agents in their own lives and communities. The event features motivational speakers, workshops led by Latina trailblazers, networking opportunities, and a Marketplace that provides exhibitors the opportunity to reach this important client base. In 2016, top sponsors included Cox Enterprises, McDonald’s, BB&T, Turner Broadcasting, SunTrust, Country Financial, and many more. This year, we are incredibly excited to announce Nely Galan as our featured keynote speaker! COMIC BOOK DAY
