4TH ANNUAL HAMILTON MILL KIDS TRIATHLON Neighborhood families came together on June 10 to cheer on active kids who participated in the 4th Annual Hamilton Mill Kids Triathlon! Kids ages 5-16 years began the race in the Lakeview pool and then ran down the hill toward the lake and over to the bike staging area. From there, they biked on Mulberry Lake Drive and then ran through the tunnel under Hog Mountain Road and through the Millwater Crossing subdivision. Distances for each activity varied by age group. Thank you to all our neighbors who came out to cheer on our kids and to those who made this event possible by volunteering. A special thank you to Hamilton Mill’s Schroer family and their Dirty Spokes Productions for donating their time to host such a fun event for our children! Proceeds from this event benefit the Hamilton Mill Hammerheads swim team.

MOTHER’S DAY CARD MAKING ACTIVITY On Saturday, May 13, Hamilton Mill kids and families came to the Lakeview Clubhouse Main Room and made mom a handmade card with supplies donated from Hamilton Mill residents (thank you, thank you, thank you!). We had 4 tables full of cardstock, scrapbooking paper, stickers, crayons, glue, cutouts, stencils and more! We served scones, powdered donuts, cinnamon rolls and juice while kids enjoyed the big princess castle inflatable. All kids got to pick a flower to take home for mom as well. A huge shout out to The Event Hive–thank you so much for helping us make this sweet activity happen by sponsoring this event and letting us borrow the bouncy house! Also, a big shout out to Jen Robinson for your help, and all that donated scrapbooking supplies. We appreciate it!

We hope all moms out there had a wonderful Mother’s Day!

POOL OPENING PARTY The pool opening party on Sunday, May 28 was tons of fun for Hamilton families and friends! It was awesome to see so many people gather at the Millview pool for the re-grand opening (doesn’t it look great!) and cookout. KONA Ice rolled up at the party start to serve yummy shaved ice treats. Russell Landscaping manned the HOT grill and helped serve up hotdogs and hamburgers for all attendees! DJ Dan Jason played music, trivia, and pool games with the kids–including those awesome giant water balls–and handed out great prizes (including Chik-fil-A and movie gift cards)! It was a great party, and so great to have such an awesome amenity for the neighborhood to enjoy! A big shout out to Property Management and Grounds and Facilities for overseeing and getting the pool project completed for the opening, Russell Landscaping for all the grilling, and volunteers Deb Puszewski and Jennifer Burchette for helping out with the cookout set up, decorations, and serving 350 hot dogs and hamburger meals to Hamilton Mill residents!

DID YOU KNOW? USTA Atlanta continues to offer more opportunities for active adults 40 and older to continue playing the sport they love. USTA Adult 40 & Over League is friendly, fun and competitive. Teams in Atlanta have an opportunity to progress to the USTA Georgia State League Championships, the USTA Southern Sectional League Tennis Championships and the National Championships! In Atlanta, the Adult 40 & Over Men’s league plays in early spring and late summer/early fall. The Adult 40 & Over Women’s league plays in the summer and winter. Participants must be 40 years or older and a USTA member. The format is four doubles positions and one singles position. We have one Men’s 40+ Team for late Summer this year. TENNIS TIPS

TENNIS TIPS Chip and Charge The chip and charge is a long lost and forgotten art form. For you youngsters, under 30, who may not know what that is, it refers to when the returner chips or slices the return and follows it in to the net. The list of great chip and chargers gets smaller every year. The reason for the decline in this tactic is simple: some serves are just big, with the powerful rackets, to be able to do it effectively. Unless you are Roger Federer, he still uses the chip but that is why he is Roger Federer. For the Hamilton Mill nation who play league tennis, flex leagues and doubles specialists, this tool could be invaluable. Let me list the advantages and you decide if it is time to use this in your game.

• It forces the server to think about their serve, knowing you are charging the net.

• It gives you more time to close the net for a better volley. • It is harder to poach against your chip return. • The chip stays low which makes the team volley up to you or your partner.

• Add court players, chipping to a two-handed backhand can cause them problems.

• Chip can be hit down the line, cross court or even the famous chip lob.

• Remember to take the shot early on the rise when chipping. It will stay low.

• This shot is great for the lob server. • Does your opponent’s server camp out at the baseline? Or even hates the net.

• Is your opponent’s serve weak or they are struggling. • It is harder to lob a chip return. • ITS FUN!!! Things that were cool many years ago are again cool for the millennials. It is the same in tennis. You will be surprise what this, lost art, can do for your game. See ya on the courts.

TAKE YOUR GAME IN A NEW DIRECTION Open to the public for Dining and Golf. Serving lunch every day and dinner Tuesday – Saturday.
