DID You KNOW?

Monthly friendly advice for our Reunion neighbors about covenants issues & guidelines We are well into the summer season with all the wonders – and all the work. Weed prevention is almost essential in our area of the South. It is impossible to keep up with it, but our covenants require that lawns, shrubs, flowers, and mulching be kept neat all year round. Many responsible companies are available for hire and come with good recommendations by neighbors, or you can try to handle it on you own. One way or another, our community is only as pristine as we keep it. Thanks to all of you that spend countless hours doing just that. The housing of trashcans has been the topic of “Did You Know?” for some time. They cannot, under any circumstance, be visible from the road, your neighbors, the backyard, or the golf course. This leaves the garage, which isn’t ideal, but it is what the covenants require. There are no exceptions to this regulation. In addition, trashcans must be put back in garages by the end of pick up day. If you are not going to be home, please make arrangements with a friend or neighbor to pull it inside. We have violent storms in the spring and summer, particularly. This policy is not just a simple matter of esthetics - a trashcan left outdoors can be a hazard in driving and blowing winds. For the same reason, gutters and shutters must be tightly secured to your house. They are not allowed to hang loose for any reason. The Covenants Committee members make community rounds on a 14-day rotation. If they see a violation, it is reported and the homeowner will get a notice. A fine is sent after the second notice.

All homeowners and renters should be aware of this process. Parking with vehicles going in the wrong direction is a violation that involves the Hall County Police. All vehicles, whether they are the homeowners, guests, or service providers, must be parked going in the direction of traffic to avoid a fine. This is very important at night since the reflectors on the rear of cars and trucks gives oncoming traffic a visual of an obstacle ahead. This is a safety situation. In this instance, the parked car is responsible for any accident that might occur. The Hall County Sheriff ’s office will give parking tickets to all vehicles that are not parked going in the right direction. It is up to the homeowner to remind lawn services providers (lawn maintenance, painters, contractors, maid service, etc.) guests and otherwise, of this law and possible fines for not adhering. No one wants a ticket at the end of the day – please be aware and help to get the message out to keep our community free of accidents based on incorrect parking. On a similar note, house party parking is particularly complicating on our narrow and winding roads. Please ask guests to carpool or, at the very least, all park on one side of the street so as not to create an obstacle course for community drivers.

EMPTY NESTERS’ Stage Variety Show The Empty Nester group gathered on the evening of April 8th to perform and enjoy their second biennial variety show, Song, Skits and Smiles. The compilation of acts and performances was, in effect, a talent show and did the talent ever show. Master of Ceremonies Hal Beaver guided the audience through the events of the evening as George Burns and Gracie Allen (aka Judy and Don Smith) popped in intermittently to provide some comedy relief and to share Gracie’s worldly knowledge with the group. Wow, where to begin in describing the show. Best to just tell about the individual acts (not necessarily in order) and hope you enjoy reading as much as the ‘Nesters enjoyed being the presenters. Gonna Wash Dat Man Right Out of My Hair- From the show, South Pacific Peggy Reiland was lead singer and was center stage to her “bath mates” Susan Eyring, Rosemarie Wood, Cathy Sposa and Donna Smith. Nuthin’ Like a Dame - The men of the South Pacific island (Tom O’Donnell, Tom Dibble, Tom Benson, Jack Sposa & Mike Reiland) replied to the ladies brush off in a resounding fashion…and speaking of fashion, you should have seen the costumes. Cell Block Tango – From the movie and the play Chicago our own resident death row inmates (Merridee Michelson, Danna Lowry, Loretta Summerville, Barbara Hasaka, Lauren Viljamaa & JoAnne Giel) blew the roof off with this very difficult number. When they were done, it was clear…he had it comin’. Razzle Dazzle – Also from Chicago, shyster at law Billy Flynn (Don Smith) performed the catchy tune Razzle Dazzle and, with his zoot suit in full glory, did what he could to Razzle Dazzle the audience.

Ted Sawyer and Tom Dibble. As this talented trio treaded water on dry land in search of that gold medal, the audience was rolling in the aisles. Thanks to Jack Ofsharick and George Haska who held the water (sorry guys, couldn’t think of another way to phrase that). Count Your Blessings – From The Sound of Music, Wendell Peterson tugged at the heart strings with his lullaby to his beautiful wife Cookie. Their slow dance during the musical interlude was one to remember. Sisters – Taking a tune from White Christmas and making it their own was Barbara Hasaka and Joanne Giel.

The Empty Nester group is open to and composed of Reunion residents who meet the sole requirement of no longer having children living at home with them. The group is totally self-sustaining and all Empty Nester functions and events are financed wholly by Empty Nester dues and occasional membership assessments with no supplement or financial assistance coming from HOA dues. Prospective members are invited to come to an event, free of charge, to see if there is an interest in joining. The membership is more than just a party club. It has evolved into friendships that provide strong support for one another. If you have an interest or more questions, please contract Rebecca Hagler at 678-641-6209 or email haglerrebecca@yahoo.com

Splish Splash – Narry an inhibited bone in their “cultured” bodies, Dick Speakman and Ted Sawyer entertained the masses with their rendition of the Bobby Darin hit, Splish Splash. For better or worse their performance, complete with thankfully oversized bath towels and the obligatory rubber duckie will be long remembered. Side by Side – Our hometown Hobos Judy and Don Smith did a song and dance number to this old favorite and led an audience sing a long for the final stanzas. Carol Burnett – Performing pantomime to Carol Burnett’s famous theme song, So Glad We Had This Time Together, Rosemarie Wood literally mopped up the show with a smile and, of course, a tug of her ear. Many thanks to the performers and the wonderful audience for what resulted in a truly outstanding night of fun, laughs and shared talent.

Boogie Shoes – The girls performing in perfect line dance form for this great Saturday Night Fever hit were Peggy Reiland, Cathy Sposa, Donna Smith, Gail Dibble, Susan Eyring & Rosemarie Wood. Olympic Synchronized Swim – Without a doubt the comedy hit of the night was our very own representatives to the summer Olympics in the category of synchronized swimming, Tom O’Donnell, 6

NEIGHBORHOOD Watch Committee News UNDERAGE GOLF CART DRIVERS

To: Reunion Residents Subj: Underage Golf Cart Drivers

Georgia law requires golf cart drivers to have a “valid driver’s license” to operate a golf cart. We frequently observe underage children driving carts on the streets of Reunion.

Community Website ~ www.ReunionHOA.org - Visit for up-to-date news, community events, classifieds, community documents, online reservations for the Meeting House, a resident forum and much, much more. If you need help with your login/password, please contact the Activities Director.

Email Distribution List ~ Are you getting regular emails on events & activities in the community? If not, email the Activities Director (angelapavlichek@fieldstonerp.com) to be added to the distribution list.

Most recently on a Sunday afternoon in a community in Thomasville, GA., an 8 year old child was run over and killed by an 11 year old driving a golf cart. The attached provides the particulars surrounding this tragic occurrence. We are providing this to our residents so that you have the opportunity to read about it. In return, we ask that residents who own golf carts and have young children, no longer allow your underage children to operate your carts. While such a tragic event has not occurred in our community, it can. Let us all learn from this and keep our children safe.

Facebook ~ Three pages to keep informed and in touch with your neighbors, and even buy/sell belongings. Search Facebook for the following pages & request to join. Reunion Golf and Country Club, Reunion Classifieds, Reunion CC Neighborhood Watch

These pages are closed groups and for residents only.

Thank you. Your Neighborhood Watch Committee
