DID You KNOW?

Monthly friendly advice for our Reunion neighbors about covenants issues & guidelines The Covenant’s Committee took their summer break last month; therefore, there are no new “Did You Know?” topics to present to you. However, as ongoing issues have not yet been completely resolved, it was decided to do a review to reinforce some areas of concern. Please read these over. It is important that we all commit to making, and keeping, Reunion a safe and beautiful place to live. Following the guidelines below help to make this so. Parking • Fill in driveways when having company. • Do not to keep vehicles in the street overnight. • Do not allow tire wheels to rest on the sideway and walkways. • All vehicles must be parked going in the natural flow of traffic. The sheriff has made it clear that cars parked against traffic are subject to receiving a ticket. Signs • Political signs can only be displayed a month out of the election date. At no other time can political signs appear anywhere on your property. • Signs that request driving with care because children are at play can only be displayed while children are actually out playing in the front of the house. • Contractor signs are not permitted and real estate signs must meet the detailed specifications in the covenants. Trashcans • Trashcans cannot be stored outside of the garage in a position where they can be seen by visitors and neighbors. Golf Carts • The Safety Committee clearly outlined golf cart driving regulations as per Georgia State Law. Under no condition can unlicensed individuals drive a golf cart on Reunion roads. This includes drivers that have permits and drivers who have an adult sitting next to them. It also includes all other motorized vehicles. Ignoring this could result in receiving a ticket. Home Maintenance • Fencing, painting, and additions to your home must be approved before any contracting work begins. You can find applications for such on the Reunion website. Lawn Maintenance • Keeping lawns and shrubs groomed, adding pine straw or mulch, weeding and mowing are essential to the look of your home and our community. This must be done consistently, but particularly during the growing season. Pets • Regardless of how well behaved your pet might be, there is a leash law in effect in Reunion. All dogs must be walked on a leash unless you remain on your own property. As well, you must pick up after your dog and dispose of bags in designated receptacles only or at your own home. Cats cannot freely roam the community. The Covenants Committee is comprised of dedicated volunteers who do not make HOA rules, but simply monitor the community to make certain that all who live here follow the regulations that you were made aware of at the time of your purchase. We aim to keep Reunion the pristine neighborhood it is just as other committees strive to oversee the pool, social life, safety, and the Meeting House agendas. 4

EMPTY NESTERS’ Enjoy Patriotic Picnic The evening of June 17th saw 54 members of the Empty Nesters group come together at The Meeting House to enjoy what has now become their annual Patriotic Picnic & Auction. The patriotic theme was a good fit and the timing was perfect as the occasion served as an early observation of Independence Day and filled the void of there being no scheduled Empty Nester event for the month of July. Joyce Carey and Carolyn Notheis served as hosts for the gathering and did a great job of coordinating the presentation of food for the event and of encouraging fellow Empty Nesters to donate items for the auction. The picnic theme inspired a variety of yummy foods ranging from southern fried chicken (of course) to pulled pork barbeque and grilled bratwursts highlighted by potato salad, coleslaw and other traditional picnic fare. After everyone had satisfied their appetites, the entertainment for the evening began as resident auctioneer/ standup comedian Jack Ofsharick took the floor to conduct the auction event. Proving once again that the discards of one person can be the treasure of someone else, the items available for auction were varied and sometimes quite interesting. This year, homemade food items were popular as Sue Dennis provided her almost famous apple cake; Joanne Giel offered her well known home baked apple pie and Judy Smith pitched in her locally popular southern cornbread. After some spirited bidding and an awful lot of laughter, the night came to a close with everyone having had a fun time.

6

Many thanks go to the hosts of the event and to all who contributed food and auction items. As usual, no Empty Nester function could be successful without the tireless assistance of so many who help to set up before the gatherings and clean up afterward. The Empty Nester group is open to and composed of Reunion residents who meet the sole requirement of no longer having children living at home with them. The group is totally self-sustaining and all Empty Nester functions and events are financed wholly by Empty Nester dues and occasional membership assessments with no supplement or financial assistance coming from HOA dues. Prospective members are invited to come to an event, free of charge, to see if there is an interest in joining. The membership is more than just a party club. It has evolved into friendships that provide strong support for one another. If you have an interest or more questions, please contract Rebecca Hagler at 678-641-6209 or email haglerrebecca@yahoo.com

COMMUNITY COOKOUT at South Precinct Sheriff ’s Office By Brian Stewart, Reporter with accessWDUN Residents got a chance Thursday to meet local law enforcement face to face, and perhaps enjoy a bite to eat as well in South Hall County. Dave Crumbley, a member of the neighborhood watch group at Reunion Country Club in the Hoschton area, was among the attendees at the community cookout at the Hall County Sheriff ’s Office South Precinct, and said events like the cookout are an excellent resource for residents to connect with local law enforcement officers. Crumbley said his neighborhood watch group knows many of the local deputies fairly well already. “What we try to do is we have representatives of the community and sheriff ’s department come out to our monthly meetings, and we can have Q and A with the residents,” said Crumbley. The community cookout served

as another opportunity for residents to have those one-on-one meetings with deputies. Lt. Chris Dale said it’s vitally important that deputies create a sense of community, and show the public that deputies are people too. “We’re here to help. We don’t want to have an ‘us versus them’ mentality, or ‘blue versus everybody else.’ We’re all people. We all serve and live in this community, and we want to be open and available to anybody that has any problems,” said Dale. Crumbley said the contact with law enforcement has been valuable to the Reunion s u b d i v i s i o n’s community watch program, since deputies often keep residents up to date

on the latest techniques and technology they use to spot or stop crime. “I would say in South Hall, it’s a very close-knit connection of communities, community representatives and law enforcement,” said Crumbley. Dale said anyone who missed the cookout is always welcome to stop by any of the Hall County Sheriff ’s Office precincts if they ever have any concerns.

Connection Renewed Eagle Ranch believes connection is best achieved when we disconnect. Children come to live at Eagle Ranch without cell phones or other electronic devices that may interfere with their healing from struggles. We encourage outdoor recreation and relational activities that help boys and girls express their feelings and communicate in a healthier way. The result? A child who feels more confident in friendships, family interactions and life beyond the screen.
