FREEZING WEATHER FROZEN PIPE PREVENTION When outside temperatures fall below 20° & stay below freezing for more than 12 hours, the potential for frozen pipes rises. A strong wind makes the potential for a problem even greater. Please consider the following: • Pipes don’t always burst during the first freeze; it may take several freezes and thaws for them to crack, since they weaken each time. So no broken pipes last year doesn’t mean you won’t have them this year. • Allow water flow through pipes; at least 1 inside faucet, perferrably in the bath, should constantly drip. Water temp should be lukewarm (combination of hot & cold pipes); the drip the width of a matchstick. Don’t overheat or the water heater might overwork & be damaged. When temps are below 20° or remain below freezing for several consecquitive days, leave faucets running 24 hours round the clock. • Open cabinet doors under sinks allowing heat to enter the area around the pipes. • Before going to bed and first thing in the morning, check all faucets. Be sure they are flowing, including the washing machine. • Garden hoses connected to outside faucets are guarantees for broken pipes. Before freezing temperatures begin, disconnect garden hoses from outside spigots. • Plumbing along perimeter walls or in unheated areas like garages are especially susceptible to freeze damage. • If a pipe breaks, immediately turn off all water to your home. Learn now where the main water valve is located. If the break is in a hot water pipe, shut the valve off on top of the water heater. Also be sure to switch off the heater at the circuit breaker. Now call a plumber. Making arrangements for repairs is a homeowner responsibility • If you’re going to be away from home ask a neighbor to check your pipes. Don’t completely turn off your heat.

Lego Ninjago – PG

Sunday, January 14th at 2PM

A team of six young ninjas lead double lives as ordinary high-school students in this exciting animated adventure. When they aren’t attending class or studying, the group use their advanced fighting techniques and custom vehicles to defend Ninjago from all kinds of evil.

Battle of the Sexes – PG13

Thursday, January 25th at 6PM

This electrifying sports docudrama recreates the legendary 1973 “Battle of the Sexes” tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. When Riggs brags that he can beat any woman in the world on the tennis court, reigning champion King accepts his challenge. Their highly publicized match soon takes on a larger meaning as a milestone in the fight for gender equality.

Despicable Me 3 – PG

Sunday, January 28th at 2PM

In this delightful animated sequel, Gru teams up with his long-lost twin brother, aspiring supervillain Dru, to take down his mostdifficult opponent yet: a former 1980s child star-turned-bad guy named Balthazar Bratt. Meanwhile, the Minions go on strike to protest Gru’s lack of interest in world domination.

Book of Life – PG

Sunday, February 4th at 2PM

Manolo, a young man who is torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family and following his heart, embarks on an adventure that spans three fantastic worlds where he must face his greatest fears.

Dina – Documentary

Thursday, Februay 22nd at 6:30PM

With its muted cinematography, Dina looks like a Daniel Clowes graphic novel come to life, and its eccentric subjects would fit well as characters in Clowes’ work. But in spite of how meticulously planned and well-shot it is, evident in its rigged camera setups and aesthetic choice, this is a documentary about two very real and candid individuals, both of them on the autism spectrum, during the lead-up to their wedding. Unlike other docs with similar stories, this one doesn’t bother over-explaining the characters or their romance through interviews with the couple or anyone else, instead letting their lives show for themselves, genuinely, respectfully and with lots of heart.

HARRY

Kilpatrick

30

Born in Cambridge, Ohio, Harry first became interested in woodworking during his high school years when he got an old rowboat and refurbished it in the family’s basement. His dad was always handy with tools and he was fortunate enough to pick up some knowledge from him. Harry continued to build his skills by taking Industrial Arts (mostly woodworking) in high school… a class that was pretty much a requirement back in the 1960s. His woodworking has always been a method of relaxation and a true hobby. After college and time in the Army, he began a career at NCR. Later on, he returned to school to get a degree in Computer Science (1989). During his almost 40 years at NCR, he worked in areas of Accounting, Cost Estimating, Programming and Technical Writing/Training. He was transferred to Duluth in 1989. His wife Janet and he moved to Sterling on the Lake in 2005. In Cambridge, as a member of the model railroad club, he learned a lot about woodworking by helping to build the train layout. His love for woodworking was renewed after his children grew up and left home. Harry has enjoyed working in remodeling, building fine furniture, and wood crafting. Additional hobbies include amateur radio, stamp collecting and computers. With a lifelong interest in trains, he currently builds them using various species of wood to provide natural color (without the use of paint). His creations are treated to a simple coat of Varnish as a finishing touch. Lately, his projects include ornaments and craft items using a scroll saw (with a very tiny blade to allow intricate cuts). As a member of Gwinnett Woodworks Association, Harry enjoys classes on various facets of woodworking (classes are scheduled every week). You can check them out at GwinnettWorkers.com or search for “Gwinnett Woodworkers” on YouTube for videos of the classes.

Faith is Our

Cornerstone On a spring day in April, 1985, Eagle Ranch welcomed its first child. The shy teen boy walked through the doors of the Faith Home, unsure of what the future held. He was soon joined by six more boys, who discovered that Faith was more than the name of their new home, but the very thing that would spark hope for a better life. Faith remains the cornerstone of the Eagle Ranch community, which today helps make life better for nearly 70 boys and girls, providing support their families as they work toward reunification.
