TRASH CAN PLACEMENT BECOMING HAZARDOUS TO DRIVERS Hall County School Bus drivers, Red Oak Sanitation team members and local delivery drivers, amongst other callers, are hoping that neighbors can work together to help resolve an ongoing issue regarding trash can placement. Trash cans and recycling bins are being placed on the street instead of on the inside base of resident driveways. This placement has become an obstacle to vehicles moving in either direction, including our school buses.

on the street. Both receptacles are to be placed (on your property) at the end of your driveway on Monday evenings for Tuesday pickup. Cans are to be returned to their stored location on Tuesday evenings. Cans should be stored out of sight of neighbors and should not be visible from the street.

There have been many close call situations for drivers trying to navigate oncoming traffic while driving between bins placed on the street. Please DO NOT place your trash can or recycling bin

WHEN IS IT TIME TO PAINT YOUR HOME? Now you are probably asking, what should I look for when giving my home its yearly “check-up”? There are a variety of symptoms your paint or wood can have, letting you know it needs new paint. The average two-coat paint job will last about 5 years on trim areas (soffits, eaves, and fascia trim boards). Some siding areas can last a little longer. Here are some obvious reasons your home may need to be painted: Peeling- Bare wood shows under the current paint. Cracking- The paint is dried out and has an alligator skin look to it. Fading- The original paint color has chalked away from sunlight, and now the color is lighter than when originally painted. Often, the chalking, which is milky and chalk like substance can run down onto other surfaces below the painted surface, like onto the brick or the roof. This causes permanent staining of unpainted surfaces. You want to make sure you paint prior to this irreversible damage occurring. Time for a change- You have decided to paint your 4

home because you dislike the outdated color and you just want to spruce up your home. A new color can make an old home feel new again. (You must have any changes approved through the DRC before starting your project). Protect your investment- The best reason to paint your home is to protect your investment. A new coat of paint on your home will protect it from the weather elements and help to hold your home’s value. If you are considering selling your home within 3 years of painting, Realtors note you usually get 96% of the paint job cost back in the sale of your home. Painting is one of the cheapest, easiest and most return on investment home projects you can complete. Keeping a fresh coat of paint on your home will also help avoid other costly repairs like replacing rotted wood and caulking failure that causes interior water damage. Bare wood is more likely to rot than wood that has a solid coat of paint on it. It has been noticed that quite a few homes are in need of painting and minor repairs to maintain the community’s standard. Please protect your investment and avoid a community violation letter and possible fine.

A NEW GROUP is forming... American Mahjong

Empty Nesters Events – Save the Dates

Mahjong is a game of both skill and luck that originated in China many centuries ago and was brought to the West in the 1920’s.

These events (and more) are listed on the Empty Nester Group page on www.Sterling-Life.com. Register via the individual event links on the group page.

American Mahjong is uniquely different from the Asian traditional play as it uses racks, jokers, “Hands and Rules” score cards and has some distinct gameplays. Mahjong is always played with four players seated around a table. Tiles are shuffled, die are cast, and the exchange of tiles begin. Beginning on May 3rd, you’re invited to The Lodge on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month from 2pm-5pm to participate. All ages are welcomed to participate. Contact Ilene Shurek with questions.

FIND THE SOURCE OF YOUR PAIN SESSION May 15th from 9am - 11am at The Lodge Visit with neighbor Joe Vignola at The Lodge and participate in a personalized (and digital) screening to identify the source of pain or discomfort in your body. FREE Session. Coffee and other refreshments will be served.

SLAP (Sterling Ladies at the Lodge Pool) June 8th, July 13th, & August 10th Join neighbors poolside for a delightful lunch and great conversation! Boxed lunch ordering is available. BYOB for your choice of adult beverage. Register online to attend.

Coming in October: Halloween Party Start planning your costume and attire early! This will be a fun night out. Details for both events to come.

Your Neighborhood Needs You!

Resident Business Morning Networking

Sterling on the Lake has a Homeowner Advisory Committee (H.A.C) covering 5 key areas of interest/ activity in our Community. Those five areas are: Lakes & Trails • Pool • Tennis • Finance • Modifications The H.A.C. meets once a month to discuss events, activities and concerns for each of these important areas and then we report that information back to our H.O.A. Board of Directors. We are all volunteer residents who work within the above listed committees, and each have a keen interest in maintaining Sterling as one of the best neighborhoods in Hall County! Currently we really need some willing volunteers to join our Pool Committee. With 4 neighborhood pools and pool season getting started this is such an important function of our Community. Tasks involved would include attending one (1) monthly meeting, liaising with lifeguards & pool manager, inspecting pool facilities, helping with Swim Team, and reviewing pool budgets. If you could donate some of your time to help in our community we would love to hear from you. Please contact Activities@Sterling-Life.com or HAC@ Sterling-Life.com for more information.

Tennis Shots

Tennis Shots Tennis Survey Results Thank you to all residents who completed the Tennis Survey. Your feedback is most helpful in determining how to best use our funds on the tennis facilities, deciding which events you prefer, and suggestions on how to make the SOTL tennis program better. Court shade awnings and a hitting backboard were the top 2 requested purchases. The Tennis Committee investigated awnings and decided against buying them. The expense to provide awnings on all the courts is cost prohibitive, and in speaking with neighborhoods that have them installed, the awnings are not very effective in providing any actual shade. Approval was requested, and approved, for a hitting backboard. An 8’ X 12’ Bakko will be installed on Court 8 on the fence, swing set side sometime this summer.

Facility Upgrades HOA Tennis Repair/Maintenance funds are at work! New windscreens have been installed on Courts #1-6 on the South side (lake). Windscreens on the North side (Lake Sterling Blvd.) will be replaced in 2019. Warped spectator benches outside Court #4 have been replaced.

d delivery in ls $399 and over

Due to continued vandalism at the pergola at the upper courts, the ceiling fans have been removed and replaced with motion-activated lighting. This will provide nighttime lighting for spectators and, hopefully, deter future vandalism in that area.

Junior Drills Thursdays: 4:30-5:30PM: Beginners (10yrs & under) - $10/ class. Courts #4 & 5. Drop in (no pre-registration required) with Coach Travis Thursdays: 5:30-7:30PM: Intermediate to Advanced (all ages) - $20/class. Courts #2 & 3.
