Summer is here! It’s great to see everyone out and about. Maintaining your home, your number one investment, is encouraged. Please keep the following in mind as you are working on your summer projects.

Mulching: All landscape beds must be covered with Brown mulch and/or pine straw. Rock, stone or pebbles and red mulch are not approved. Edging: The preferred landscape bed edging is a neat cut trench, no plastic edging is approved. Grass and Pine straw: All front, side and rear yards must have turf on a regular weed control program to ensure it is free from weeds year-round. Grass should be mowed regularly, and all hard lines should be edged to prevent the grass “runners”. Grass and other debris should NEVER be blown into the storm drains. These items block proper drainage and pollute the lake, costing (you) the Association money! Your backyard is an extension of your front yard; it must be free of weeds and have fresh pine straw and/or brown mulch. If you back up to the parkway your lot must have fresh pine straw at all times.

Signs: The community allows only one type of for sale sign. No Realtor signs are allowed. Your Realtor may purchase the sign at Signs by Tomorrow; the number is 770-534-6616. No Realtor directionals are to be displayed. Your Realtor is encouraged to speak with Newland Marketing and join their open house events.

Shrubbery/Ornamental Trees: All shrubs along the front of your home should be pruned to below window or porch rail height. Long shoots should be trimmed to keep your shrubbery shaped.

Parking: Street parking creates safety hazards for motorists and playing children. It can also make if difficult for emergency vehicles to navigate the community.

Make sure fire hydrants, light poles, street signs and sidewalks are unobstructed.

Street Lights: If you notice a street light out call Jackson EMC at 770-536-2415 and give the numbers place on the front of the street light.

Structures: Your home is your castle, make sure it reflects that! If you are changing the color or shade of your exterior, you will need to submit and get written approval from the DRC (Design Review Committee). Remember that anything other that clear sealing on your deck and/or fences must go through the DRC (Design Review Committee). All aspects of your lot must be well maintained.

Sculptures/yard art/garden flags/play equipment: DRC must approve the placement of any exterior decorative and recreational items, with the exception of holiday decorations removed within 15 days of the holiday. Play equipment must be approved by the DRC and be behind the house (some screening may be required). Basketball goals must be constructed with a single black metal pole with a Lucite or clear backboard. Basketball goals may be placed adjacent to the driveway as approved by the DRC. NO portable Basketball goals will be permitted. NO trampolines are permitted.

Fencing: It is time to stain your CEDAR Fences. You have made a huge investment in your fence and regular staining of your fence will help maintain your investment. In the Village Center the 3-rail fence must be stained #205 “California Natural Cedar”. Pool: Pool season is here and going strong. Please have small children wear rubber pants under their swim suits. Every time the pool is closed due to accidental fecal contamination it costs the HOA a fee to bring the chlorine levels up to the required CDC level. No one likes to get ready to go to the pool and it is closed. Remember that the covenants require ANY exterior changes, additions or improvements of all kinds, including landscape renovations, retaining walls, fences, edging, color changes, etc. must have the prior written approval of the DRC (Design Review Committee.)

Kayaks for Rent

Monday - Saturday: 10-4 Sunday: 12-4

In order to rent a Kayak the resident must be 18 years of age or must have adult supervision. The resident must have a current amenities card that will be left at the clubhouse during their rental time. Visit the clubhouse to complete the paperwork at which time you will receive your life vest and oars!

2018-19 Season at the Gainesville Alliance Theater. Information about play tickets and cost is sent through the Empty Nester email list in May for the upcoming 2018-19 season. There is a one time registration organized by Merce Bolling to purchase group tickets. Please join this large group for a great theater and dining experience! Dinner groups (12-16 people) will decide where they will dine (lunch/dinner). They meet at the restaurant and proceed to the theater. Cost of season tickets and dinner. MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE

FOR The SPRINGS & The VILLAGE CENTER Turf treatment: During the months of July and August, the Greenwood Group will be doing another chemical treatment on all turf grass in these two communities as well as on all HOA common property. This application will be a granular fertilizer. For the best results please be sure to water it in thoroughly. The recommended watering time for this treatment is: 30 to 40 minutes for rotor heads and 10 to 12 minutes for spray heads. However, if you are not able to water please be assured that it will not burn your yard. We ask that you refrain from doing any additional turf treatments of your own or by a third-party company. We do not want to cause any confusion or doubling up of products that may in turn harm your yard.

Pruning: original plantings installed by the builder on your property will be done monthly. Irrigation is a must this time of year for your landscaping. Once the temperatures start to stay in the 90â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s please increase the run times for your irrigation zones. The following watering times are recommended for the hot summer months: 30 to 40 minutes for rotor heads and 10 to 12 minutes for spray heads for 3 to 4 days per week. My name is Andres Martin, Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;m 16 years old, and have been playing tennis most of my life. I began the sport here in our local Sterling on the Lake tennis courts when I was 5 years old; little did I know it would become my obsession. Coming from a very competitive and supportive family my parents allowed me to pursue many sports when I was younger. Eventually, finding tennis, I was becoming a good player but never really had a fond interest. My parents however, pushed me to go out and practice everyday which led to the enjoyment of the sport. Having outgrown most of the kids locally, I needed a coach who would help me rise to the next level. Based off of a referral, I stumbled across an Indian man who was wicked good at the game. Murry Lokasundaram has shed his wisdom to me from playing on the pro tour and being one of the best juniors in the country. He has taught me many things including work ethic, discipline, and problem solving. Throughout it all we have become great friends and are still constantly working to improve when I am home. I train out of Hilton Head Island, at Smith Stearns Tennis Academy. I board there amongst other tennis players who share the same desires as me. I usually practice about 5 to 6 hours a

day, which includes drills and fitness. This serves as great preparation for the tournaments ahead. Due to extensive travel, nationally and internationally, I do online school to have a more flexible schedule. In the past two years I have been all across the country for training and tournaments. For example, I was able to travel to Colombia, Spain, and Canada to play international junior events. Out of these tournaments, one of my best results was in December of last year winning the Winter National Championships in boy’s 18 and under doubles, while making the quarterfinals of singles. Since then, I’ve had great results in tournaments like in Indian Wells, California when making the quarterfinals in singles and semifinals in doubles of Easter Bowl. Currently, I am 1 in the State of Georgia, 11 in the country, and 300 in the world for boy’s 18 and under. My goal for next year is to be able to qualify for the Junior Grand Slams such as Australian, French, Wimbledon, and U.S Open. In order to do this I would have to travel to more international events. This will serve as a great experience for me as I would be competing against the best juniors in the world. Last year, I had a great experience training in Marbella, Spain with Alejandro Davidovich, the former junior Wimbledon champion. He is a very skilled player and I hope to reach the same heights as him one day. After highschool, I will be attending Georgia Tech to play division 1 tennis which will evolve my game to the next level. Hopefully, after four years of college I’ll be able to become a professional tennis player. I would love to see how far I can make it on the pro tour. A quick tip for any tennis players out there, remember to never get discouraged and keep practicing, hard work always beats talent.

POOL REMINDERS Swim Diapers & Rubber Pants: All children who are not potty-trained MUST wear swim diapers (such as “Little Swimmers”) AND rubber pants in addition to a swimsuit. Cloth diapers and disposable diapers ARE NOT permitted. Do not dispose of diapers in the pool area. (Changing tables are available in both men’s and women’s locker rooms). If a child is not potty-trained and is not wearing swim diapers, the resident will be assessed a $200.00 fine if a fecal accident occurs. If an accident occurs with swim diapers the resident will be assessed a $100.00 fine for the cost of chemicals to shock the pool. Minors and Amenity Cards: Residents 13 years old or older may enter the pool area without an adult if they possess their own valid amenity card. Residents 13 -15 years of age are not permitted to bring a guest or sibling to the pool. Minor +1 Amenity Cards: Residents 16 or 17 years of age with a current amenity card may bring 1 (one) minor guest to the pool. Residents will be randomly asked to present their amenity card by either pool or management staff. Adult Amenity Cards: No more than six (6) accompanied guests per family are permitted at the pool.

Whether there are neighbors throwing firecrackers on your street… or your entire community is enjoying “the exuberant splendor” of a big fireworks display, your pet can become frantic and run away, trying to find a safe haven. More pets go missing around the 4th of July than any other time of year and noisy fireworks are to blame. According to national statistics, animal control officials across the country see a 30-60% increase in lost pets each year between July 4th and 6th. In fact, July 5th is one of the busiest days of the year for shelters. Here are 4 simple tips on how to keep pets safe… plus a bonus tip on how pet owners can have a better chance of finding a lost pet. 1) Stay inside: Try to keep your pet indoors at all times during holiday celebrations. Ideally, someone stays home with your pet. Please keep your dog leashed when going out for walks. 2) Make them feel safe: Comfort your pets with petting, hugging, talking to them in a soothing voice, providing a treat and staying

nearby if possible. Make sure they can access their crate or “safe place.” Also ask your veterinarian or local pet retailer about natural calming products, anxiety wraps and other products that may help. 3) Avoid the noise. Try to drown out the fireworks sounds as much as possible by closing windows, playing music or turning on the TV. 4) Act normal! Your pet takes cues from you and your family’s actions. It will help if you go about your normal routine as much as possible, talking and playing with your pet as usual. 5) Protect your pet before the fireworks begin. There are a number of lost-pet devices and services available today. It’s wise to be proactive in case your pet gets lost. Among the various pet-finder services available, the Pet Amber Alert ID Tag/Pet GPS combines Amber Alert technology with a QR Code and pet GPS to help MORE lost dogs, cats and even birds return home safely.
