Introduction of GEC-MENGO A grouping of Malaysian Environmental NGOs (MENGO) was formed under the DANIDA-supported programme for environmental assistance to Malaysia. (DANIDA is the Danish International Development Assistance). The Mengo coalition was formed in November 2001. The objective of the programme is to contribute to the strengthening of the MENGOs and facilitate their impact on the decision making at all levels in the Malaysian society. One of the main strategic aims of the programme is to support and facilitate a more effective interaction between MENGO and the Government of Malaysia on environmental policies. As part of our strategy in achieving the objectives outlined within the DANIDAsupported programme for MENGO, a MENGO Management Committee and a MENGO Support Unit (MSU), as its Secretariat were established. MENGO is a notfor-profit entity and relies solely on internal and external fundraising mechanism in sustaining its roles and duties. Formed between the governments of Malaysia and Denmark, MENGO is a coalition of 22 environmental and social NGOs and represents a singular voice on environmental and social concerns in the country. Agathians Shelter The birth of AGATHIANS SHELTER is best described to go hand in hand with the saying “a help in need is a help indeed”. AGATHIANS SHELTER is an orphanage for boys that were founded in 2003 by a team of young adults which located in Kuala Lumpur (KL). It was set up to save a group of children from being turned out to the street and to provide a home for them. The children are from various backgrounds from primary school, secondary school to college; some are orphaned, some only have a single parent who can’t afford to feed them and others are either abandoned or neglected. Our volunteers then decided to start a home to care and house these children. The day-to-day running of the centres, and the organisation & facilitates are undertaken by trained and experienced personnel, most of them are unpaid volunteers from all over the world. We want you to tell us our lives mean something if only we work hard like everyone else. We want you to tell us to never stop believing in our dreams and ourselves.

Shelter Home for Children Shelter, a registered welfare organization, has been in existence since 1981 to help abused, abandoned, neglected or at-risk children. Shelter 1 is a home for children from 4 to 12 years of age who have been abused, neglected, at-risk or abandoned by their families, parents or guardians. Most of our children here go to a Government school. Some, however, (those who are weak in their studies) go through a home schooling programme. Our children are cared for by staffs who work on a 24-hour shift, following a roster, providing rehabilitation and care for the children; an administrative officer who deals with the children's school matters, volunteers, visitors and children's events; a housekeeper/cook and a manager. We also have a team of very faithful and committed volunteers who assist us in tutoring our children.

Started in 1991, this home has housed and fed many children whose early childhood has been scarred by traumatic experiences. It is what they will become when they grow up, those matters. Here in Rumah K.I.D.S. we help chart their future, to become responsible and useful men and women who would impact the world!
