About the Magazine

Black Diamond Magazine (formerly The Ultimate Black Man Magazine) was created in 2009 by Author Renetta Cochran, to recognize, honor and feature Black Men for their outstanding accomplishments. The Black Diamond Magazine is different and unique to a market where the images of our Black Men are generally negative and demeaning. Our main focus is to feature the everyday average Black Man and give him the positive image he deserves.

Tracey Fountain serves as the Director of Kent County Department of Health and Human Services located in Grand Rapids, MI. She has served the agency for 22 years and has nearly 20 years of management and leadership experience. Tracey is a servant leader who focuses on developing a culture of excellence with an emphasis on mentoring and investing in our future leaders.

In addition, she has served on various Boards and Committees focused on enhancing the lives of marginalized communities to include but not limited to the Heart of West Michigan United Way, the Executive Committee for the Kent County Family and Children Coordinating Council, Kent School Services Network, The Kent County Essential Needs Task Force, Kent School Justice Partnership, KConnect, Early Learning Neighborhood Collaborative, and the Flint Board of Education. In these spaces, Tracey’s voice is welcomed and respected as she challenges conventional thought and systems that may intentionally or unintentionally interfere with the acceptance and advancement of all people.

Tracey holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a minor in Spanish and a Master of Public Administration from the Horace H. Rackham School of Studies of the University of Michigan. Tracey is also an honors graduate of the prestigious and competitive MDHHS Leadership Academy class of 2009.

Tracey was raised in a single parent household by her brilliant, resilient, and God-fearing mother, Barbara Fountain, who stressed the importance of education, independence, and a strong work ethic as the foundations to success. Tracey is also the mother of two wonderful adult children, DJ and Darian, and 5 beautiful grandchildren whom she loves dearly and are the reason she creates good trouble to make the world a better place for our children and future leaders.

Tracey is also the founder and owner of Flint’s Fire, LLC., a community branding organization which hosts a Facebook group of 12,000+ members that highlights the positive aspects, community members, and resources of Flint, MI. She is also the co-founder and co-CEO of DEI Standards and Solutions, a consulting firm that educates humans and organizations in moving towards growth, ownership, and action that creates antiracist transformation in order to create a world where antiracism is institutionalized, and cultural awareness and responsiveness is embraced. She and her business partner, Leticia Pittman, are committed to moving organizations from conversations to accountability and outcomes.

April Cook-Hawkins is the founder and CEO of Alternative Solutions Development LLC., a total life transformation platform. She is a wife, mother, business owner, City Commissioner, and First Lady of Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Human Services.

By profession, she is a Certified Professional Life and Transformation Coach. Over the past 12 years, she has helped many transform and love the life they live. April’s organization provides counseling, mentorship, and life coaching to teenagers and young adults within the community, foster children, and children in the juvenile system. She has been featured on national platforms like CNN, Time Magazine and in the movie Fahrenheit 11/9. She is also the author of The Process: Count the small wins.

When the Covid-19 pandemic started in March 2020, she launched Fabrics of Faith and made over 5,000 face masks to those in need throughout her community and nationwide.

April describes herself as a discovery advocate, inspiring others to not only discover who they are, but to also walk in their purpose. She shares her journey of life transformation from a place of transparency and authenticity. Throughout this journey, God has placed her on many platforms to speak life to women, young girls, teens, and young adults.

While doing so, April has developed a coaching program designed to challenge, develop, and transform lives from a holistic approach. She focuses on affirmations and the mirror and facing your truth even if it scares you. April is determined to make Alternative Solutions a conscious thought, practice, and discipline, while holistically transforming lives.

She is well known for her community activism with the Flint Water Crisis, the fight to end gun violence, women’s rights, and neighborhood stabilization in Flint.

Stephani J. Randle, born and raised in Flint, MI. Stephani knew she had a special talent so at the early age of five she went to a basketball tryouts with her cousin that was two years older than her and from that point she knew that’s what she wanted to do and did so through high school. Plans changed when she found out she was pregnant with her first child in 10th grade, determined not to give up she continue to play basketball during her entire pregnancy and even after giving birth. Not being able to fill her dreams of playing for the WNBA she dedicated life to taking care of her daughter and her two children that came a few years later.

In 2019 at the age of 34 Stephani suffered an Ischemic Stroke (Left side) (the worst kind anyone can have). It left her paralyzed on her right side but praised her family for getting her to the hospital within minutes. After fours hours and stroke medication she was rushed to the University of Michigan to desolved the clot in her brain. Upon arriving to the U of M and being prepped for surgery the doctors discovered the clot was gone. They were in disbelief, because that same day of not being unable to walk or talk, she began to speak (not normally) and was able to walk the entire hall of the hospital. After two days of getting her strength back on her right side she was discharged. It’s been almost three years and Stephani has returned back to work after 6 months and has recovered 98%, because she was determined to get better for herself and her children.

She has joined her cousin as an Entrepreneur and is pursing her Bachelor in Health Services Administration to become a Social Worker. She is in the process with the help of her mother of writing a book about being an Overcomer.

I am an avid learner. I am always taking classes or doing research on topic’s that will stretch my mind muscles. I have had many successes and many more failures. All of which I am proud of. Every experience has resulted in some amazing breakthroughs and taught me the benefits of struggling, and yes there are many benefits in the struggle. I love reading mottos but there are two that I work on every day, the first is “be comfortable being uncomfortable.” I believe if this were the only skill we could master, everything else would be easy. The second motto is “try it just one more time.” I believe we give up on our dream’s way to soon.

In addition to coaching & encouraging others, I am the founder of DOPE Water (www.bdope.today) a company focused on mental health awareness. I am a firm believer that we could change lives if we dedicated more to mental health. Our company is also the creator of a national holiday called Sit with a Stranger Day every September 16. This is a day dedicated to bringing awareness of the power of talking and listening to people (without judgment) who are different than you. The holiday was featured in over 50 publications this past year.

My curiosity turned into a podcast show exploring people’s journeys, how they figure out their purpose and how they take the leap of faith to pursue it. My name is Lin Lewis. I always envisioned of owning my own business and as of October 20, 2016, I became the proud owner of K-MaRiy Beauty Shop and K-MaRiy Beauty Hair Care Products. I have been a hairstylist for 35 years sometimes I can’t believe it. I come from a long line of beauticians, my mother, grandmother, aunts and cousins.

They to had or have salons today. It’s been a long road, one that I can say was well worth it. I have a blended family so I have 6 children and 8 grandchildren and when my oldest 2 children graduated, I wanted to finish my degree in Criminal Justice/ Forensic Science. I received my Associates in 2008 and my Bachelor’s on October 2, 2012.. I am also Certified in Cyber Law 1 & 2, Crime Mapping, and Barbicide. I can say that to have something to call your own feels good, it motivates you to

do more and want more, not for yourself but for others. To see my clients satisfied and feeling beautiful , I know I have did my job. I must say this though to see all my hairstylists, barbers, nail techs, the whole hair world bounce back from this pandemic is incredible. To be shut down from out of nowhere, I never thought that day would come. I have lost family, friends, clients to this fight with Covid.

It made realize to appreciate life even more. So I keep a sanitized salon for my clients, for me, and especially my household. A lot of my clients have health issues so I need to keep them as safe as possible during this time. The emotional support from my husband on long days is awesome, my better half.

My Heavenly Father Jehovah is my strength , my family is my relief. All of this together keeps me grounded.

Vuyiswa Ndlovu is a 26 year old female born and bread in South Africa in the Mpumalanga province, she is a high school graduate who graduated with an admission to a bachelor's degree and went on to study journalism for a year in Midrand Institute of Learning. She then realised "journalism" wasn't her calling she decided to take a break to figure herself out as she is one person not afraid of "starting over", she then in the mean time did a short course which she did for 6 months, Hospitality Management and Catering. She did exceptionally well in it and was even motivated upon proving to herself that she can actually achieve anything she puts her mind too. She then decided to enroll in the University of South Africa for an LLB degree. she is an entrepreneur and a modern day investor, Vuyiswa is a young wife and mother of 2 currently expecting her last born. Her first son is 4 years old turning 5 years on the 1st of June 2022, 2nd born son turning 2 years in April 29 2022 and due to deliver her last born child this month of February. She is into property and logistics as well as the entertainment industry, she currently Co owns two properties, one in Rustenburg North West and another in Germiston in the Gauteng region. She is basically into low to medium cost accommodation. She has also recently invested in a horse truck which has a lucrative potential contract to transport logistics containers and as well as other things. Apart from her investments she is a digital content creator who is active on Tik-Tok, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Her social media handles are IG "Vuyiswa_Ndlovu", Twitter "VuyiswaNdlovu16", Facebook" Vuyiswa Ndlovu", and Tik-Tok "Vuyiswa_Ndlovu". She is constantly soaring to greater heights and challenging herself to do better and more, she is also an aspiring actress as well as a commercial model, she just recently shot a tv commercial for MTN Africa where she is a lead character and which is by far one of her biggest accomplishments in her entertainment industry/ showbusiness. This TV commercial is to air in numerous African countries including South Africa which is her origin of birth. Apart from that she also successfully worked on 4 social media campaigns with 4 different brands in the past 6 months which are 1 a company called "ITCP", which is affiliated with tradie and distribution in South Africa, trading products from Indonesia, 2 and 3 "Standard bank", just 2 different small campaigns from standard bank raising awareness or marketing the brand and then lastly a campaign or paid survey about

different "supplements". She is looking forward to the future with enthusiasm to grow her property business and eventually acquire more properties and even grow and expand to even high cost property investments.

She also wants to grow her logistics company to eventually owning a fleet of horse trucks which will be involved in lucrative contracts with reputable big companies such as Eskom, mining etc. Vuyiswa is also in between auditions for TV roles as her passion for acting just won't let her sleep, she is constantly sharpening her acting skills and polishing her craft with constant practice, but also is planning to enroll at the market theater after giving birth to further work on her performing skills, but need not say she is definitely a natural, talented individual who just wants to be the best amongst the best. She wants to also later take her acting career international and work with legends in Hollywood. Her biggest role model and inspiration in the entertainment industry is actress Thuso Mbedu.

I’m Olivia Wallace, I am 27 years old, currently working as a Healthcare Professional at a Hurley Medical Center in Flint, MI. Prior to graduating from Central Michigan University, I completed an Internship at Hurley and am grateful to currently be working there as a manager over several ambulatory departments.

I have always been drawn to healthcare and leading others. Although working through the pandemic has been challenging, my love for serving others and the community continues to grow.

I cherish each experience and relationship I’ve created along the way and look forward to continuing on my path of growing and giving.

Charlise Y. Orr is a Lead Health and Safety Trainer with General Motors Co. She conducts Health and Safety Training and education programs in the areas of Hazardous Communication, Bloodborne Pathogens, Dangerous Goods Awareness, Fork Truck Safety, Lockout Energy Control, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for first responders. She

trains, new hires, hourly union members, supervisors, general supervisors, superintendents, plant managers, and demonstrates safe use of equipment and operations.

She exhibits safety in the worksite and promotes a safety environment by following safety polices.

Prior to that she worked with the company as a Quality Inspector for over six years. She was select-

ed to conduct Quality Wall Meetings and provided an overview of current quality concerns and countermeasures by the company. She was chosen to train other quality inspectors on multiple shifts. She is held in high regard for her integrity, analytical abilities, problem solving, leadership and team building.

Charlise is currently the Chairperson of Region 1D Women’s Council since 2019.

She held the Vice Chairperson position previously since 2014. She was elected as 2017 UAW Region 1D Fellow Scholarship Recipient. In 2017-2019 selected as a Local Union Discussion Leader (LUDL). She received the UAW Region 1D Making A Difference Award. She sits on UAW Local 651 executive board as Recording Secretary, previously elected as Trustee; two terms as Guide; Women’s Committee for four years. She was recently elected Precinct Delegate for Mundy Township, and served twoyear term in 2014. She is a ten -mile run leader for the Crim Festival of Races since 2015.

She started the “31 Day PINK Challenge” eight years ago to bring awareness and support to breast cancer. Throughout the community she volunteers and participates at Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, Heart Walk, UAW Backpack Rally, March of Dimes, Flint-Selma Solidarity March, Women Creating Caring communities, Equal Pay Day, Ruben Burks Scholarship, The Women’s March on Washington, March on Mississppi, Habitat for Humanity and Flint Water Crisis. She is a pillar in the community and an activist.

When Charlise is not training,

educating, and helping others, she spends time with family, friends, and loved ones.

Some of her adventures include running races/ marathons, traveling, shopping, writing and dancing.

Charlise is passionate about helping others after facing some challenges in her own life.

She believes everyone can succeed with the right teacher. She is driven by simply wanting to help others grow and succeed as she has in her own life. As a teenager her mom gave her a poem about attitude, author unknown: “To be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness and properity to every person I meet. To make all my friends feel that there is something good in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimizm come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best . To be just as enthusiastic about the succeess of others as I am about my own.”

There is more to the poem however, this impacted her so it drove her to help other and impacted her attitude. She keeps a good attitude and says “attitude is a choice. Charlise is an entrepreneur and an aspiring author anticipating the release of her first book in the fall of 2023. She is driven by simply giving her best!

Born in Little Rock, Arkansas moved to Flint, MI, as a toddler with Parents John and Bessie Randolph the eldest of 9 siblings “Bossy” She became the fine mother of 4 dynamic daughters and 1 marvelous son. Owner-Operator ICBS Radio. A gospel radio station that changes lives 24/7 Carolyn has founded many organizations to assist in her community in spiritual and natural beginning with Black Lace Promotion Etc. 1989 Multifunctional business from booking artist, concert events, event coordinator as well as hosting events. Daughters of Jerusalem to Zion 2002 where many opened doors for women in Christ to speak to the masses. C.O.B.B Cover our black babies 2014 seeking funding that will assist in burial expenses for our babies age 1-30 there is such a lack of funds that we run out of because of the great need when a child dies. All the above are currently active. She is a first of many things as a woman and an African American woman in her city. I am a charismatic person with a dry sense of humor but get ready to smile or laugh May even nudge me in the side but it’s all good when you cross paths with me it is to encourage you with her encounter to build you up even just by a listening ear. What motivates her- daily is wanting God to smile on me and call my name by waking me up. Also my babies 4 grown babies with a 6 year old still in tow! Them saying “Mommy I believe you can but find time for yourself in your madness.”

Her Challenges- are so many and so great.. knowing that just because I do what I do does not mean the closet to you will support you GO OUT & BRING THEM TO YOU! Use what you have at your reach but reach beyond that as you help someone along the way. Inspiration- her former CEO who grabbed ahold to angel to leave the earth Anthony McCardell we founded this thing together. My future- endless if I bring some balance to it. She is pulled in so many directions like Elastigirl. She wants to give a vast amount of opportunities for those interested in branching out to be heard in radio and that they gain knowledge of commitment with dedication to grow in broadcasting. Give others a chance to be heard. Last but not least- We all know we only have one life to live, live mine and pray for the livelihood of others as I soar all cannot go but don’t always go alone. Rocky Wallace is a singer, songwriter, entrepreneur, podcaster and mental fitness enthusiast. She just released a self-titled EP out on At The Studio/CBS/ITV/BMG Records last year which she wrote alongside singer, songwriter and producer, Frankie Jason Turner, producer, Matt Geroux, singer, songwriter and producer David Shelby. Dr. Brenda Brown was born in Flint, MI, where she attended Flint Public Schools. At the age of 11, she moved to Otisville, MI where she attended Lakeville Public Schools. She retired from Baker College after 27 years of service in 2019.

She is a single mother of three and grandmother of seven. She is an identical twin and one of 10 living siblings. Brenda carries a can-do spirit as she guides and encourages others, regardless of their circumstances, to grow and learn. Though she encountered many hurdles — including chronic illnesses, racial, social, and economic — she persevered, earning an associate, bachelor's, master's, and then doctoral degree.

Jasmine Fountain graduated from Michigan State University after studying sociology, community relations, and African American and African studies. Since then, she has been an educator in the public school systems in both Atlanta, Georgia, and Oakland, California. She worked with students to help them harness their power as writers with critical insights to share with the world. In her most recent teaching position, she learned what it meant to truly love her students and the growth that love in the classroom can produce.

She helped her students go beyond the limitations that others had placed on them to produce college-level work, by empowering them to come together as a community with unfaltering expectations.

Since that teaching experience, God has led Jasmine into spiritual education. Driven by the fact that her life truly began to experience transformation as she found the courage to share her own story and embrace the fact that God always loved her, even in the darkest seasons of her life.

Through this process of beginning to see her story through God’s eyes, she started to find freedom and healing as she embraced the pieces of herself that she had long kept hidden.

She has become dedicated to helping young women also find freedom in God’s love and their story.

Currently, she is devoting herself to founding God’s Butterfly Effect in order to reach as many young women as possible with a message of God’s transforming love. Jasmine partners with women of faith from all over the country to provide mentorship, classes, and service experiences to young women ages 9-21. The women in her collective hope to help young women see the beauty that can come from the most challenging times in their lives- learning to love themselves and embracing an intimate relationship with God. The mentors offer a safe space, a voice of wisdom, and an image of hope.

In May, the youth in her program will host a virtual storytelling experience, sharing pieces of

themselves as an act of love. This event will serve as a fundraiser for their retreat which will be hosted in Atlanta. In July, Jasmine plans to take some of her youth on a mission trip to Uganda where they will have the opportunity to mentor young women and serve orphans.

Through the practices of the program, Jasmine has aimed to help youth who have felt silenced, underestimated, and isolated to find their voice, build community and embrace the Gospel. Hoping the effect will be them sharing the truth that God loved us so much, that He sent His beloved son Jesus to die so we can know Him… no longer slaves to sin, but captured by God’s grace and mercy.

Marsha Easley is the mother of two boys, grandmother of seven, and is a published author, community activist, Autism Advocate, and Electrician. She is the CEO and founder of the Pontiac High Schools Alumni Scholarship Alliance, which was formed to bring graduates from her hometown of Pontiac Michigan together to donate money back to the community, and has gifted many scholarships to high school seniors who have been accepted into a college or trade school.

Marsha s the CEO and founder of her nonprofit organization, the Inspirational Spectrum Heroes, which was formed to aid families and individuals living with Autism. This organization if close to her heart, because she has a 31-yearold son diagnosed with Autism and had to fight for services for him his whole life. Her vision for this organization is to offer social outlets, resources, and employment opportunities in underserved areas. She recognizes that many families are lost when they receive the diagnosis, and strives to be the bridge to help them with any concerns and needs they may have.

Marsha received her degree in Packaging Engineering from Michigan State University.

She later became a journey person Electrician for General Motors, where she is currently working, and was the first Black Woman to achieve this position when she started this journey 38 years ago. While at GM, she worked as an electrician, skilled trades supervisor, and engineer. She also received her Teaching, Travel Agent, and Event Planning certification, and Real Estate license during her time there.

In her spare time, she volunteers as a Girl Scout Leader, political activist, and Cohost on the SOS Show podcast, “Coffee, Tea, and Conversation” on Sunday mornings with host, Mary Evans.

Marsha had her first book published in 2018 entitled, “Why CAN’T I Be A Cougar??”, which explores the friendships of successful women in their 50s and their relationships and friendships.

Marsha has had and is still enjoying making speaking engagements across the country, which

focuses on her book and her Autism foundation.

Ms. Easley is currently converting her book into a script in hopes of it becoming a movie. She is also publishing her second book, “Red Flag Warnings”, which will be released this year.

Born in Flint, 61 years ago, Delores has been a visionary, community builder and leader. As a Leadership Flint Alumni recipient, she made her mark when she founded the Concerned Parents Organization which created programs and developed resources for parents and youth; it operated from 1990-1996. She’s also an Ameri Corp Alumni where she served in the capacity of Membership Specialist/Organizer Consultant for the Fairwinds Girl Scout Council. She has served on boards for the Carriage Town Historical Neighborhood Association and McCree Theatre…and was their first Auxiliary President.

Raised in the 1960’s, she and her siblings grew up in a military family under the influence of two parents who were both charter members of the American Legion Dorie Miller Unit 306 and Auxiliary, this led to Delores becoming a Junior Auxiliary Member as a child. Her patriotism has not wavered over the years, she is still engaged in the American Legion Dorie Miller Post 306 Ladies Auxiliary, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Veterans of Now Auxiliary.

Over the years, Delores has been the recipient of the following awards for her community service in Flint: 1993 City of Flint Drum Major Community Service Award, twice received the Concerned Parents Organizations Outstanding Dedication Award, McCree Theatre Volunteer of the Year Award, a citation from VFW Dr. George Washington Carver Post for coordinating Veterans Day Celebrations, a City of Flint Proclamation declaring April 11, 2010 Delores Johnson Day, and a Sybyl Award Nomination. Since 2018 Delores has been dedicated to honoring National Harriet Tubman Day by walking with the Girltrek initiative every year on March 10th which also happens to be her birthday.

Marilyn S. Brown was born in Flint, Michigan on July 12, 1981. She graduated from Davenport University with her Degree in Business Management Administration. She also pursued her passion in cosmetology and opened her own beauty studio.

Marilyn also oversees other businesses that she owns called "Clean Clear Consulting & Coaching" and "Modest" an online boutique, which has a physical establishment as well. Even when doing all those things, Marilyn is a full-time preschool teacher.

Later in her life, Marilyn rededicated her life to Jesus and has been in full time ministry since 2009.

One of her goals and purposes in ministry is to reach and help individuals understand their calling and purpose while helping to cultivate their gifts, talents and abilities. Nayana Ferguson, is the Co-Founder and COO of the multiple award-winning tequila brand, Anteel Tequila and is the very first black woman in the world to own or co-own a tequila brand. A Detroit native and a graduate of the well-known Cass Technical High School in Detroit, MI, Nayana has received national attention for being a pioneer in the spirits industry, as well as being a 16-year pancreatic cancer survivor and a 9-year breast cancer survivor. Nayana is also an advocate for PanCAN, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, where she helps to spread awareness about pancreatic cancer while sharing her story to provide hope to those affected by this horrific disease.

Although Nayana has had a twenty-five-year corporate financial career and holds an MBA, she did not have any previous experience in the spirits industry. Without any experience, Nayana built the foundation for Anteel Tequila from the ground up and after eleven months of working on this dream, it became a reality in August 2018, when Anteel Tequila was launched on the Michigan market. Eisha Branner, a native of Pontiac, MI a dedicated mother of 4 wonderful daughters (Destinee, Micah, Jala, Jerma’nee) has been an amazing leader and example of tenacity, endurance and bravery amongst her peers and youth in the city of Pontiac. Eisha Branner is a proud graduate class of 2002 from Pontiac Central high school. She continued her educating following her graduation attending Oakland Community College. Eisha received her associated degree in Applied Science in Criminal Justice Corrections in 2009, graduated with her bachelor’s in Criminal Justice Administration in 2012 from University of Phoenix. Shortly after she went and pursued her master’s in human services with a specialization in Multidisciplinary Human Services in 2018.

As a “Career professional”, Eisha Branner created a nonprofit organization in 2015 that was a mentoring program for young boys. Eisha named it “Fitness &Mentoring”. This was a program for just boys ages 8-16 at the time. The kids in the program would meet once a week for 4 hours for 8-weeks. All kids that were registered in the mentor program parents also received one on one case management and resources.

During their meet, they worked out, hear from positive male speakers, and was taught social skills. In 2016 Eisha joined forces with the PAL League to expand the Fitness & Mentoring Program and also complete a mentor grant that was awarded from National PAL. Since the partnership, Eisha has served over 500 youth in her community with mentoring, wraparound services for the families, and fitness. In 2019 The Sheriff PAL program ired Eisha Branner full time to be the Community Outreach Director for the Organization.

The passion and purpose of such successes evolved from childhood therapeutic measures such as mentoring and sports programs. Growing up around drug infested crime stricken and low poverty neighborhoods such as Pontiac, Eisha Branner founded Fitness and Mentoring to assist with some of the community needs. As a young visionary, Eisha was inspired to become a mentor to the attention starved youth mostly single parent households. This enthusiasm couple with diligent efforts proved to be a springboard to success for many of the youth in the city of Pontiac and surrounded cities. Growing every day, Fitness & Mentoring now serves approximately over 300 girls and boys participating in the mentoring program. With an ever-evolving curriculum, Fit-

Struggling Single Mom Transforms From Convicted Felon to Successful Entrepreneur Sharon Steele was once a struggling single mom who suffered from abuse, depression, and she even went to prison. But now she is a successful entrepreneur, motivational speaker, media personality, and the founder of Business Girlfriends – a popular Facebook group for women entrepreneurs She has used her personal experiences to develop workshops and programs that have transformed the lives of both men and women, and altered the trajectory of businesses throughout the country and across social media. She has also been business partners with Gregg Leakes from Real Housewives of Atlanta, and on the tour team with Dr. Venus Opal for The First Black Woman Millionaire Tour. Prior to opening her business, she was one of the caretakers for her mother, Mrs. Loree until she was called home in September 2014. Her mom has always been her biggest supporter and cheerleader so when she established her business it was important for her to find a way to honor the memory of Mrs. Loree. Annually, she does Mother’s Day giveaways as a tribute to her mom and encourage others to cherish every moment with their mom. Her giving is not limited to the honor of her mother’s memory, she also offers donated and discounted treats to mother’s who are working on limited budgets for graduation celebrations. Detroit native Jill Hamilton is a fascinating vocalist that simply captivates audiences with her incredible vocal range and distinctive style that stays with the listener long after the musical performance has ended.

When she was only 16 years old, Tenika Dawson read a book that would ultimately change her life.

The author shared that most people who have accumulated great wealth did so through real estate. This immediately sparked an interest and curiosity in Tenika, who would live in 23 different houses by the time she was 17 years old. Never having a “family home” inspired her to work toward eradicating housing insecurity, not just for herself, but for those in her community. She was determined to break the transient generation curse. This fascination with home ownership would lead her to a passion she didn’t even know that she had. While laser focused on building a real estate empire, Tenika realized that to avoid being taken advantage of, she needed to understand what a good repair should look like. She deduced that by educating herself in construction, she would be better equipped for building her real estate business. In 2013, she became a member of the Carpenter’s Union and soon after, her alter ego, “Lady Carpenter,” was born. In 2017, she realized a long time dream, when she purchased her first investment property. She is now the owner of Lady Carpenter, LLC and Lady Carpenter Consulting, started in 2018, to help manage invitations to speak at events and to host workshops.

She is an avid learner and Tenika enthusiastically shares all that she has learned about construction, real estate,and marketing. Tenika is the proud mother of three daughters and holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Sciences and Technology from Penn State University. As a teen, she remembers staying in a women’s shelter with her mother and four younger siblings. Now, she is helping other families by becoming an affordable housing provider. Her daughters help to run the businesses, making them family owned and operated. After taking advantage of an opportunity to travel to the West African country of Ghana, she became involved with other organizations, which inspire international travel, by organizing group travel events. She loves traveling with her children in tow.

She believes that she is to be a gateway for them and others to live their best and most full lives. She also feels that the best way to do that is to test the limits of her own potential.

In her spare time, you can find Tenika at Black Mountain Spirit in Homestead, training for her next Kung Fu tournament. Tenika’s ultimate goal is to grow her real estate empire and travel the world with her children. She also aspires to help other families grow their portfolios. A woman infused with passion for seeing women of all ages live empowered lives. Chanel is the proud mother of five amazing human beings: Martine, Marijah, JChanel, Jaden and Gary Jr. More important that motherhood, is her title of Glammie to: Malachi, Carter, Madison, Nylah and Zuri.

Chanel has been a mother longer than she’s been an adult. From multiple teen pregnancies, high school dropout, homelessness, abusive relationships to being involved involuntarily in a bank robbery that would be the catalyst to transform her life. Chanel had no idea that all of her life experiences would be the perfect recipe to impact the lives of teenage girls, and women alike.

A natural born leader, Chanel was always one willing to lead a pact of neighborhood kids growing up on the southeast side of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Unbeknownst to the little girl back then, her gifts and talents were being tapped into and released.
