Ochre House, Emerald Fields Sophia Husband

A tapestry of intertwined memories— sunlit ridge and treetop fortress, fields of grass waving in the breeze. Acacias planted by hands quivering in hope of golden orbs to come. Gardens incite mischief. Bamboo begs to be crafted by clumsy fingertips. Arrows launch, preceded by cheeky grins. Brothers engage in battle when adventure bursts inside adorning walls with crimson clay. Within the ochre walls siblings play pretend under recycled timber stairs. Crouched amongst the clutter they build a home complete with the scent of damp earth rising from the manhole below. Dusk melts to evening and adventurers retire, seeking solace by the glow of the fire. Here the years pass as she dreams and acacia blossoms 13| The Voice Issue 06 October 2017

Back in My Day Chanelle Felix

“Back in my day” A saying we all know so well Life was great, life was swell. Work and rest and work and rest None of this anxiety, worry and stress. We all have a “back in my day” A looking glass into the past With people, things and events with hope to last. But like time, there never really is an end So, life can often be a never-ending bend. As we ever so slightly turn, we can’t help but look back Memories wave to us, all that we have packed. Travelling through my day, oh the things I’ve come past Roaring rivers, swirling seas, things so frightening I knock my knees. Things never tasted before, oh my day how I adore But mere memories now, how I wish for more For “back in my day” I always had something in store.
