Election Day is Nov. 6. Have you already cast a ballot in early voting? A record-setting number of folks in Van Buren County did just that. The Voter Registrar's office reported late Friday afternoon that 2,570 people had voted, and there were still two days
to go before early voting ended. The most hotly contested races are for county judge and sheriff. Roger Hooper (D) has been county judge for four terms. His main challenger is Quorum Court member Dale
James (R). Also in the race is hotel owner Tony Soyani (I) whose slogan is "No promises." In the race for Van Buren County sheriff, candidates Lucas Emberton (R) and Eric Koonce (D) are each making their third run for the office. Emberton
currently works for the Greenbrier Police Department while Koonce works for the Clinton Police. Also in the race is former deputy Paul Rice (I). Other contested county races include the office of Treasurer, where incumbent Kim
Hunley faces challenger Mistie Wilson. The Assessor's race pits Emma Smiley against Ginny Kimmons-Stone for the seat being vacated by Trina Jones. Coroner Joe Tsosie has two challengers, Ron Henson and John Galbraith. Early voting end-
ed Monday. Polls are open from 7:30 a.m.7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6. You must go to your polling site to vote on Election Day. The Voice will post some results on Facebook. Full results will be in the Nov. 13 paper.

Scotland's Pig Eye Daze celebration drew a good-sized crown to the grounds of the old school Saturday, Nov. 3. There was eight hours of music on tap, including Debby Campbell (pictured), the daughter of the late, great Glen Campbell, and the final act, Marty Haggard, the son of the late country star Merle Haggard. Other highlights of the day were vendors of all types, food and little pigs to entertain the children.

Veterans Day event Veterans Day is Nov. 11, 2018, and in observance of the day, post offices are closed Monday, Nov. 12. That means a oneday delay in getting The Voice in the mail for home delivery. Also to mark Veterans Day, the South Side-Bee Branch is holding its annual ceremony on Nov. 12. The event will include the presentation of colors, a performance by the school's chorus
and an address by the guest speaker. There will be a light breakfast for veterans and their families following the ceremony. The event will begin at 8:45 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2018, at the Fine Arts Center. It is hosted by the school's EAST program. For more information, contact EAST at South Side, 501-6542200, Ext 411.
