Booooo

Scare on the Square brought out the witches, the clowns and everything in between Saturday in downtown Clinton Saturday. Covid-19 concerns kept the celebration simple, no hayrides or haunted house, but plenty of candy was provided by merchants and others. More photos, Page 14. (Photo by Warren Johnson)

A report of a possible stabbing at a house in Scotland led to two arrests Oct. 22. Jennifer Scoville sent a text message to her sister showing a stab wound she said was done by her boyfriend William Eric Honeycutt, according to an affidavit for arrest. Deputies reported they discovered a small bag of a crystalline substance in Honeycutt’s pocket. Honeycutt denied it was his, saying his girlfriend must have put it there, the affidavit states. A search of Honeycutt’s camper turned up a Dremel 3000 tool that appeared to be one reported stolen earlier in October, as well as drug paraphernalia, the affidavit states. A security system at the house that was burglarized showed a male and female entering the home. The man was carrying a shotgun, the affidavit states. One of the deputies identified Honeycutt and Scoville from earlier encounters, according to the affidavit. Honeycutt, 38, has been charged with aggravated residential burglary, a Class Y felony; possession of firearms by certain persons, a Class B felony; possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class D felony; possession of a controlled substance, a Class D felony; aggravated assault on family/household member, a Class D felony; theft of property, less than $1,000, a misdemeanor; and criminal mischief, a misdemeanor. His plea and arraignment is set for Nov. 30 in Van Buren County Circuit Court.

Honeycutt Scoville, 42, has been charged with aggravated residential burglary, a Class Y felony; theft of property less than $1,000 and criminal mischief, both misdemeanors. The Van Buren County sheriff’s office, Clinton Police Department and 20th Judicial Drug Task Force concluded a warrant round up dubbed "Operation Trick or Treat” on Oct. 30. Warrants were served on: Zachary Gill - Possession of drug paraphernalia (felony and misdemeanor) and drug possession. Jason Brock - Aggravated residential burglary, theft of property and criminal mischief. Sabrina Dawson Endangering the welfare of a minor (Felony). Vanda Nicholson - Possession of drug paraphernalia (Felony). Ralph Thornburg Possession of instrument of crime. Charles William Possession with purpose to deliver. Jason Green Failure to comply with registration and reporting. Dennis Horton Possession of controlled substance and simultaneous possession of drugs and firearm. Tabitha Mckinney - Probation revocation.

Goodbye, old friend Robert R. Gaut, with his beloved motorcycle-riding sidekick Corky in photo

at right, passed away Friday, Oct. 30, in Garland, Texas, where he was undergoing rehab several months after suffering a stroke. Gaut loved his Harley, Indian trail trees and his pack of “mutts.”

He was retired but volunteered for many things, including photographing high school sporting events for The Voice, playing Santa Claus to Corky’s elf each year, traveling all over

the state to take part in funerals for veterans and for Masonic events. Corky died in February 2019, but Gaut kept his memory alive on his Facebook page. He participated in

Honor Guard events and helped out at many benefits, often frying the fish. There will be a memorial service in Alread at a later date, according to his son. Gaut was 80.

Did the sales tax pass? Are we now a wet county or do we remain dry? Hill vs. Elliott - who came out on top? Unfortunately, The Voice can’t hold the press for those results. We’ll use our Facebook page for the news and have full coverage in the Nov. 10 issue.
