WANAKA ARTS LABOUR WEEKEND EXHIBITION: Cnr Deering & McCormick Streets, Three Parks

The Wanaka Arts Labour Weekend Exhibition & Art Sale begins tomorrow and promises to be bigger and better than ever in its 41st year. With 82 artists exhibiting, as well as guest artists who are both local favourites and from as far away as Nelson. The five day event at the Lake Wanaka Centre showcases a diverse range of artworks, including paintings, ceramic arts, woodcraft, textile art, and mixed media. It all kicks off at a festive opening night starting 5.00pm, Thursday 22 October, with a first look at the exhibiting pieces, drinks, canapés, and live music by Robert Glen. Gavin Vize of Harcourts will serve as auctioneer with six fabulous works going under the hammer. The proceeds of which will go towards the donation of a new sculpture for the Wanaka lakefront. Tickets for the evening are $20 and available online, www.wanakartsociety.co.nz and Eventfinda.
On Saturday 24 October, Stephen Martyn Welch will be painting a live portrait sitting from 12.00 - 5.00pm, with the opportunity to sit beside him and observe his technique up close. Watch a livestream of the event on the Wanaka Arts Facebook page if you’re unable to attend. Guest artists this year are ceramic artist Melanie dos Remédios, painter Caroline Bellamy, sculptor Nicholas Duval-Smith, jeweller Niki White, and mixed media artist Rosalind Moseby. The Exhibition and Gift Shop will be running: Thursday 22 October, 5.00 - 9.00pm Friday 23 - Sunday 25 October, 9.00am - 5.00pm Monday 26 October, 9.00am - 2.00pm

their easel and wheel respectively throughout the weekend. Sierra’s work recently featured at Cardrona Distillery, which included her ‘mini’ landscape collection, as well as unique large scale portraits.
