M!NT CHARITABLE TRUSTSUMMER HOLIDAY PROGRAMME Written by: Charlotte Jackson
This January, M!NT Charitable Trust is delivering a four week holiday programme catering to kids, youth and adults with intellectual disability. The aim is to expand their horizons whilst fostering independence and peer relationships. So far, the programme has offered a day at Kidds Bush, a trip to SITE trampolining and an action packed tour at Hillend Station farm. Thank you to Mike from Hillend and Jane from the Wanaka A&P Show. We have three weeks of exciting activities coming up, including a boat trip to Ruby Island with Lake Wanaka Cruises. Kicking off this week, we have ball skills on Wednesdays at the Wanaka Recreation Centre and gymnastics at Aspiring Gym Sports on Fridays. These are drop-in sessions and open to anyone seeking a more relaxed and supportive environment. Rachel Rankin from Wanaka Lake Swimmers, is facilitating acclimatisation sessions in the lead up to
the Ruby Swim on 30 January. Whether you are a confident swimmer or want to come and dip your toes in, get in touch to find out more. For the third year running this fully inclusive event will have our M!NT Gems category designed to give those with intellectual disability a chance to have a go. We hope to see you there, find us at the M!NT tent! Our programme is the first of its kind in the Upper Clutha region. One parent said “We cannot believe what a difference this has made to our child’s school holidays, for once they have something really exciting to look forward to, and it’s a welcome break for us as parents to know that our child is happy, and well supported during these hours”.
