WANAKA COMMUNITY WORKSHOP
MAKE + REPAIR + SHARE
Written by: Wanaka Community Workshop
The Wanaka Community Workshop is now a reality. It has a space at 15 Gordon Road and volunteers are setting up the three workshop spaces. A not-for-profit, the trust is looking for excited people, tools, materials and facilitators to run workshops. Gwilym Griffith-Jones, one of the Trustees, is excited to see the progress and explains “Our tagline of Make + Repair + Share sums up what the Workshop is all about. With a membership you will be able to have access to a workshop with everything from wood working to sewing machines, and people who know how to use them.” Ben Acland, also a Trustee has been at the Workshop all last week “Our first week at the
shed has been a success. Volunteers have moved in workbenches and tools donated or loaned by locals. The painting of walls has begun ready for racks that are being donated by Mitre10, Gwilym has been making a sign and local business Dunlop Builders has donated a load of wood ready to make into work benches.”

The Trust’s goal is to be self-sufficient covering its operating costs within two years by running workshops, paid memberships, a tool library and manufacturing for other not-forprofits. They are currently seeking funding for specific machinery in the machine shop. For more on our goals and what is coming up see our website: www.wanakacommunityworkshop.org.nz
