Crime Line By Constable Mel Twyman The Upper Clutha A and P Show was a roaring success over the weekend with the weather holding out till Sunday's downpour. There were plenty of gumboots wandering around town, but while Wanaka was pretty crowded on Saturday night and there were arrests, all the visitors were very well behaved. Two local males were arrested over the weekend for breach of bail, and another two were processed for drink driving. A 49 year old male was also arrested last Thursday afternoon for shoplifting. He entered two outdoor stores in Wanaka on different occasions and stole a merino top from one store and a sleeping bag liner from another. He was detained in store after being recognised by staff as the thief. He admitted to the thefts and is due in court later this month. During the week a bogus call was made to a local motel; the caller told the hotel guest that they were calling from reception and asked for their credit card details. Unfortunately the card details were passed before the guest realised it was a scam. I'm sure some panicked calls were made to the bank afterwards. If you think it sounds wrong, it's probably because it is. Trust your instincts and ask questions first. There are still a few areas of road works in the area with lowered temporary speed zones in place. Keep an eye on the signs and lower your speed appropriately. Not only are we keeping an eye on these zones, but we are at times also receiving calls from the public complaining about excess speed in these areas. Have an enjoyable week.

Changing how we sort it The new two crate recycling collection was introduced last week along with some changes to local collection days. Thanks to everyone for helping to ensure that the new system came in relatively smoothly. Just a reminder that recycling does now need to be separated. All glass is to go in one crate and then all other recycling is to go in the second crate. Best to put paper in the bottom of the crate with all other recycling such as tin cans, plastic bottles etc on top to stop the paper being blown out of the crate.
