The cause of this was water running over the road that had frozen, so take car on these cold mornings and nights. Some parts don’t even see sun at the moment, so ice is about. Some miscreant, likely drunk, damaged vehicles on Ardmore Street on their way home from a night out in the weekend.
More road policing on Monday with a school focus. Watch your speeds around schools and buses with all the kids and whatnot. The day was capped off with another crash on Riverbank Road. A brief moment of inattention caused a car to end up flipping. Nobody was hurt and no doubt the driver got a bit of a wakeup call. Thanks all, have a great rest of the week.
A group of individuals, who shall remain un-named and genderless, from a certain educational establishment, which shall remain unknown, fleeced a local accommodation outlet when they failed to pay the required fee. They scarpered back to where they came from. Thankfully there is one decent individual in the group who had the conscience to call in and arrange getting the remaining balance sorted. There has been a bit of work going on at the Riverbank Rd / Ballantyne Rd intersection. Drivers are treating it like a give way and as a result, crashes are occurring. If you see us there, we’re not out for a stitch up. It’s because a marked Police car makes people stop. This is glaringly obvious when someone makes a go for it as they roll up, spot us and slam on the Twobrakes.crashes were attended on the Crown Range. One was not so serious, and the other was a head on. Thank you to all those people for your patience while the scene was managed and then reopened. It is a big decision for us to shut the roads and isn’t done so lightly.

We began the week looking for an individual from a serious incident at a campground. We did not have any luck finding them, but they were nabbed in the end by our colleagues down south. A vehicle crash on Gladstone Road in Hawea Flat was attended.
A checkpoint on Friday night stopped a number of vehicles with one drink driver taken off the streets. There was some drug paraphernalia also found and confiscated. Driving behaviour and complaints seemed to be the flavour of the day on Saturday. Again, the presence of a marked car had some effect on vehicles going to overtake a car doing 95km/h, saw us, then pulled back in. An individual was also dealt with for failing to remain at a crash a few weeks earlier.

Submitted by Mike BalkStars in Your Eyes is back! After two years lost to the pandemic, Stars in Your Eyes makes a welcome return to the stage in the Lake Wānaka Centre for three nights next month. The show runs on 15, 16 and 17 September and features talented locals performing a range of hits from famous stars, supported by a six-piece band, backing vocalists and dancers, with Bradley Craig acting as MC for the night. Rehearsals are well under way and we are promised something for everyone, including country, folk, rock, and pop from soloists and bands - in a fantastic array of costumes. Some of the performers have been in the show before, but there are several newcomers - could that be your neighbour? - and one song is delivered in a style not seen in Stars before. This is the 28th Stars show and, not surprisingly, the iconic arch through which the performers make their entrance was starting to look a little tired. This year, thanks to the excellent support of Johnny Titterton from Cut It (pictured working on it with Norm Bressanello from Stars), we can expect to see a new and bigger arch.

Now recognised in Wanaka as ‘Lions Lillies’ the perfect growing conditions this summer have produced tall stems laden with large flowers in a variety of pinks, reds, yellow and creams. In September each year the Upper Clutha Lions receive the latest Oriental lily and freesia catalogue, and take orders for bags of bulbs. These are very popular with local gardeners due to the varieties and bulb size, and for the results of splendid blooms in summer. The export quality bulbs are sourced from an international grower at Rakaia. Growing paddocks of bulbs in Mid Canterbury and The Netherlands allows for production of new and old varieties twice a year. The Rakaia Lions Club members are heavily involved sorting packing and distributing orders to all over New ThanksZealand.tothe support of Upper Clutha buyers of Lily and Freesia bulbs, the Lions Cub has donated the profit to various local causes – Child mobility equipment- Teens leadership camps, Food for Love, and Wanaka Coastguard building fund. The Upper Clutha Under 8 Stags did the Mahi and got the treats. Last-minute entry to the tournament, The Stags took the win in the final versus the powerful Wakatipu.
