The Preschool has a lot to celebrate. We are the original non-profit community based centre in Wanaka, celebrating 30 years. The Preschool replaced a play centre at that time which was located at 106 Tenby Street, where land had been set aside by the QLDC. It took a huge community effort of fundraising, applying for grants and establishing an early childhood centre by families at that time. We are now educating the children of parents who came to the Preschool.

Late last year the Preschool was awarded the highest status for an Enviroschool, the Green/ Gold achievement. Enviroschools is an environmental action based programme where young people are empowered to design and lead sustainability in their schools, homes, neighbourhoods and country. The Preschool journey with Enviroschools began in 2010 as a long term commitment where tamariki/children

connect with and explore the environment, learning about respect for themselves, others and the environment. Part of that journey was the creation of an outdoor programme (the Explorers) where children meet one morning a week at Wanaka Station Park, connecting with nature and gaining a sense of belonging to the environment and the community. The Enviroschool’s kaupapa is about creating a healthy, peaceful, sustainable world through learning and taking action together. The Gala will have an enviro theme and will be held at the Preschool using the Bowling Club car park and entrance to the Preschool through the back gate. It will kick off on Saturday, 27 February at 10.00am and go until 2.00pm. There will be a bouncy castle, carnival games, plants, clothes, food and much more. Everyone is welcome and we hope to see many former families and staff, so we can show off our beautiful ECE environment.
