The first weekly Wanaka Food & Produce Market got off to a great start last Wednesday. Locals found the accessibility and parking at the Wanaka Recreation centre made it easy to come and enjoy the buzz of a market atmosphere. As well as being able to talk with local growers who offered a wide selection of mainly spray free produce, many people enjoyed the hot and cold food options, which allowed them to combine lunch with shopping. The market is planned to be all year round, to provide the best of what is available seasonally vegetable and fruit wise, along with eat there and take home food options. Minimal packaging with fruit and vegetables is a real bonus for market goers.

She added that, “Stallholders are a hardy bunch who will brave the elements every week, so locals can rely on their market fix. The reality is that a lot of work goes in each week before the market, with harvesting, baking, preparing fresh food including bread, so to cancel a market is not really an option.” Come down and enjoy the Wanaka Food & Produce Market, at the Wanaka Recreation Centre carpark every Wednesday from 12 noon until 4.00pm.
