This Saturday 28th April at the Bullock Bar car park the local volunteer fire brigade are inviting locals to take part in a “fun team” challenge. Be there with your mates for the 1 o’clock start to support the local businesses that have entered to compete. Watch them test themselves in an obstacle course based on the happenings that firefighters meet in the course of doing their everyday duties. This will include tests of strength, endurance and muscle power. This is a real fun day – try being a “fireman” for the day.

Home to the $20 Indian Feast

At 4pm there will be a crash/rescue demonstration – the fire engines and St John will be in attendance. This whole afternoon is a fundraising event aiming to raise funds towards the much needed new fire station. There will be a raffle which will be drawn at the conclusion of the afternoon events, including a truly wonderful helicopter flight for two to Minaret Station for lunch, valued at $2000 and other wonderful prizes. Later in the evening join us for live music from 9pm at the Bullock Bar.

This is pretty poor form, especially when we will be commemorating ANZAC day this Wednesday. Speaking of which, we hope to see the good people of Wanaka at one of the many ceremonies taking place to honour and respect those who have fallen for us. Attention Wanaka food outlets. - Watch out for this scam! We have had a report of a male phoning various take away shops claiming he has found a hair in his food, and then demanding a refund. We don't believe this person has actually been in the shop, but is just phoning claiming they have. On Wednesday the 18th of April at about 12pm a Tui Camper van has hit two vehicles parked in the New World Car Park and then driven away. Police would like to speak to the female driver of the grey sedan that was hit. - If this was you could you get in touch with us at the Wanaka Police Station. There have been a couple of other car crashes over the week. On Beacon Point Road a truck was flipped on its side after a driver didn't check the road was clear when performing a u-turn. In another incident a truck has turned a corner and hit a parked vehicle resulting in minor injury to the truck driver. School Holidays have finished now, - so remember when you are driving past school buses that are picking up or dropping off children going to and from school, you must not drive over 20km/h. So just think before you go past that bus, - what is my speed? how quick is that 5 year old child? can I stop in time? and also in a 100km/h area a speed of 71km/h passing a stopped school bus could see you lose your licence.
