This family favourite event sees friends get together to form cabin crews that create innovative, hilarious and downright ridiculous cardboard boats and race them against each other in the lake – for fun, a good laugh, and epic prizes.

So, jump on board, we would love to see lots of boats on the water!

Boat Building for Youth: We are holding a boat building day for youth aged 11-18 years. All equipment necessary to build a nautical masterpiece is provided. Monday, 10 October, 10.30am-3.00pm at Kahu Youth, at 11 Russell St.

New Youth Space: Kahu Youth is thrilled to be nominated as a primary tenant for the new community hub at the old Mitre10 building.

We encourage each cardboard boat crew to create their own give a little page to help us fundraise for our new youth space. We hope to gain support from our community as little things make big things happen!

Hello everyone. Here is what has been going on.

A staff party was held on Monday evening. On the whole it was pretty good and only two people got removed. Prior to that soirée there were some fiscal reminders handed out to keep to the speed limit, ride a motorbike that you’re licensed to ride, and don’t drive a vehicle on a road with a registration you’ve told NZTA is on hold.

Tuesday saw reports of the Lake Hawea Library having rocks thrown through it’s windows. Shameless really. If you know anything get in touch with us. Also, if you did it, get in touch with us. A family harm matter was attended.

Wednesday daytime had a few driving complaints dealt with and some restricted drivers given incentives to not carry unauthorised passengers. A search warrant was carried out in the evening and some items of interest were located including a car that failed to stop for Police some weeks ago.

A family harm matter was reported on Thursday. Driving complaints came in as did a civil dispute. Some firearms were taken pending the results of an inquiry into the owner's suitability to have a licence. Vehicle crashes continue to occur at stop signs. A late night call out to an individual from out of town causing problems refusing to leave a bar, resulted in them getting pepper sprayed and an appearance in court.

The stop sign narrative was followed up on Friday and a few reminders given out so hopefully some driving behaviour improves. Various other policework filled in the day. The evening was good with only a large group of people causing a fracas at

Saturday evening had us looking for a stolen car from over the hill. We didn’t find it but the team in Queenstown did. A few drunkards out and about gave us grief when we did not acquiesce to their request for a ride home. They started out nice asking for a ride home but when told we were unable, their Gremlin side came out. Shocking behaviour really.

Sunday had a bit of day time disorder on the main street. Thankfully some colleagues nearby were able to assist us in removing the individual out of the public realm. At the station, the individual proclaimed himself ‘King’ and decided clothes were optional for him. Once we were able to locate his family, we were able to release him and they kept tabs on him. The evening saw two speeds of 80km/h in a 40km/h zone dealt with. 1km/h away from an automatic licence suspension. Ridiculous

In Wanaka, the St John run a fully crewed and paid front line vehicle 24/7 and 365 days a year to attend to the community’s emergency ambulance needs. We also have a First Response vehicle, crewed by volunteers, who attend an incident when Wanaka 1 is already on a callout. We have a fantastic team of volunteers who crew this vehicle, but we could do with a few more!

We are running an information night on Thursday, 6 October to inform people about what is involved. If you are reasonably fit and

active, interested in learning some really useful skills and are prepared to commit some time to this role, we would love to see you! Our volunteers find their involvement to be really rewarding and great fun. Come along and hear first hand what is involved.

Full-time Guest Services Position

The Alpine Group is a family-owned tourism business based in Wanaka, operating brands including Minaret Station, Alpine Helicopters, Southern Lakes Heliski and Southern Lakes Helibike.

We are looking for an experienced, well presented, and hardworking professional to join our team in a full-time position. The position will be working primarily at Minaret Station Alpine Lodge, in front of house and back of house duties. The Alpine Lodge is New Zealand’s most remote luxury lodge, accessible only by helicopter.

The role is diverse and requires a candidate with proven hospitality experience, but more importantly a can-do attitude. As well as experience in food and beverage, they will take pride in general housekeeping duties.

The successful applicant will have exceptional people skills, as well as an affinity and understanding of New Zealand’s outdoors and high country. This position specifically focuses on supporting one of Wanaka’s high performing Licensees as their current PA is going on maternity leave.

The role will include a wide variety of end to end administrative / PA duties relating to the real estate listing and selling process. It also requires a high level of confidentiality and competency as the Licensee operates in the top end of the market.

• Be confident in balancing the high-priority needs of the Licensee whilst always displaying a calm and professional manner
