Tomorrow the calendar ticks over to April, which means Wānaka’s Festival of Colour 2021 is on the horizon. Running from 12-18 April, this year’s festival features theatre, dance, comedy, music, visual arts and Aspiring Conversations right here in Wānaka. The festival kicks off on Sunday, 11 April from 5.00pm with a free performance, the openings of new video work Te Taki o te Ua / The Sound of Rain, and outdoor exhibition Through the Eye of the Lens, and a community promenade 'Us', weaving through the town to the lake. This year’s festival celebrates the very best of New Zealand performance and highlights include world premieres from the Royal New Zealand Ballet, new theatre work The Hall, and the New Zealand String Quartet’s performance of The Dry Cardrona, a new composition based on James K Baxter’s poem. Trick of the Light Theatre (The Bookbinder, The Road That Wasn’t There) returns showcasing their

magical use of shadow puppetry and storytelling in two shows – Tröll and The Griegol (direct from its world premiere at Auckland Arts Festival). Music lovers have plenty to choose from – Carnivorous Plant Society merges psychedelic jazz, lush orchestral pop, and kooky story-telling via hand-drawn animations, or head along to dreampop luminaries French for Rabbits, and fall under the spell of multi-instrumentalist Anthonie Tonnon in Rail Land as he spins tales of trains and life. The Aspiring Conversations programme runs across four days and tackles topical subjects including fake news, democracy, tax and climate change. Bring the family to the free street theatre day on Saturday, 17 April with theatre, dance, music and a stunning aerial duet. Browse the full programme at www.festivalofcolour.co.nz Tickets available online or call 022 4 TIX NOW (022 4849 669), or in person at the Lake Wānaka Centre box office during festival week.
