All ANZ staff around the country are busy planning activities for the annual Daffodil Day Appeal which is held every August to raise funds for the Cancer Society. In Wanaka, we are holding our annual movie night which will be held at Cinema Paradiso on Thursday 16 August at 5.30pm. We will be screening ‘Funny Cow’ (R16). Grab a friend or two and come along for a fun evening! Tickets will be available from the Wanaka branch on Ardmore Street or by phoning 03 443 9605. The cost is $25pp which includes a complimentary drink and nibbles. All proceeds for this event will go to the Cancer Society.

We will also be holding our famous ‘Pikelet Days’ at the end of the month so don’t forget to place your orders for these delights that the Wanaka Lions ladies kindly produce on our behalf. Lastly, we will also have raffles in the branch along with a second-hand book sale during the month. ANZ have been major sponsors of this worthy cause for over 25 years and have raised several million dollars over this time. It is never possible without the support of the community and we thank you all for helping us to achieve this.

MY COMMUNITY NEWS Mobile health – Wanaka Open Day New Zealand’s only mobile surgical unit will soon roll into Wanaka and open its doors for the first time. The 20m long, 42 tonne unit contains a fully equipped operating theatre suitable for low risk elective day surgeries in a wide range of specialties including general surgery, gynaecology, dental, ENT and orthopaedics.

Hospital is undergoing renovations, the Wanaka Lakes Health Centre will host the unit. The first patient in Wanaka will be treated on Monday 6 August.

Mobile Health clinical nurse manager Liz Grant says, “Some good examples would be general surgery procedures such as surgery to repair hernias or an orthopaedic procedure to treat Dupuytrens.”

The service, which is funded by the Ministry of Health, works in partnership with District Health Boards and local health providers to help ensure rural patients can have their surgery close to home. Over 23,000 patients have been treated on the unit since it started operating in February 2002. It travels on a five-week loop of the country, stopping off for the day at 24 rural towns.

This year we celebrated 100 years of service, so our club focused its fundraising around creating a Centennial Legacy Project – the Allenby Park redevelopment, which provided a BBQ, table and shelter. The importance of having a consistent visual identity Do you find it hard to get your ads or marketing material to look consistent? Is your designer not giving you the design you want? Is your print collateral looking mismatched and confused from one leaflet to the next? The solution is as simple as having a visual style or brand guideline. At Print It and the Messenger, we are often asked to make ads and marketing material for businesses, but are not supplied with any other brand information apart from a logo. This leaves important factors such as fonts, colours and style open to interpretation. Our Senior Graphic Designer Jen Clarke recommends that every business has, as a minimum, a one page style guideline outlining proper logo size and placement, typefaces and colour palette. This should be provided at the outset along with the brief to anyone who is designing something for your business, whether it be something that is outsourced to a designer or created in-house. Larger companies are advised to have a more comprehensive brand guideline document which, along with logo usage, typefaces and colours, defines the brand’s ethos, includes examples of how print collateral should be designed and outlines how any other design elements should be used.
