It’s an entertaining community event about communication and personality types – an interactive seminar that teaches why you think, act, and communicate the way you do. We promise you’ll have “aha moments” and laugh out loud while you reduce stress and learn something new. You’ll leave with a better understanding of yourself and anyone else you interact with, like your partner, colleague, child, committee member, team mate, neighbour, or friend. This event sold out here in 2009, making a big impact on businesses, community groups, families, sports teams, and other organisations that rely on communication and teamwork to succeed. Get Dotted’s simple colour coding of personality and communication types explains why some relationships are easier than others, and gives people the skills to build better working relationships and teams.

Community development initiative LINK Upper Clutha has been addressing growth issues by enabling connection and action. Effective communication and collaboration are key to Wanaka’s success as we grow, and now more than ever, we need to work together to maintain and foster our special community spirit. MY COMMUNITY NEWS Another member of Wanaka Writer’s Group publishes a book The Wanaka Word Weavers are a dedicated group who have been meeting regularly for the past four years to share and encourage the joy of writing, (not to mention delicious afternoon teas). It welcomes a new born baby into the world with love. This

heartfelt poetic ode is for new mothers, siblings, caregivers and all who wish to share their love for the new baby. The aesthetic of the book is Japanese simplicity, with hand drawings and a baby’s record page at the back of the book. Joanna says, “You can’t help but feel inspired by the deep blue lakes, embracing mountains and open spaces. MAC Spanish Dinner will warm up the Winter!

On Saturday 30 June, Mount Aspiring College students are hosting the famous Spanish Dinner fundraiser. This is a night of fun, music, entertainment and an exceptional Spanish meal served by some of Wanaka’s finest chefs, Leungo Lippe and Rachel Hodgkiss-Blyth. A live auction and Spanish dancing will both be highlights of the evening.

The dinner is organised by the 25 students from Mount Aspiring College who will travel to Spain in September. This group has spent the year fundraising for their three-week trip to Spain. While there, students will experience the famous festival of La Merce in Barcelona, visit the Costa Brava, spend the night at one of the most sacred monasteries in Spain, Montserrat, and visit the famous town of Pamplona. The group will then spend five days in homestays in San Sebastian where they will learn to surf, and go to school with their host students. They will walk a day of the Camino de Sant Jaume, step into France and also visit the island of Majorca and its stunning surroundings. What a trip!

Many of Wanaka’s businesses have supported the students by donating auction items ranging from Mountain Tandem Paraglider flights to 10 hours free babysitting; Rippon have also supported the dinner by generously donating their venue for the evening. The preschool has been presented with an exciting opportunity to fundraise for their outdoor development. A former preschool mum and artist, Hollie O’Neill, has donated an amazing piece titled ‘Sweet lil Honey Eater’. This is a vibrant work of art depicting a Tui in Kowhai flowers. Hollie also painted the feature art work for last year’s annual Wanaka Art Auction, ‘Mt Aspiring National Park’. This year’s Art Auction is scheduled for 7 September and it is hoped that the raffle of ‘Sweet Lil Honey Eater’ will also serve to promote this highly successful fundraising event which will be held, once again, at The Venue. As a community based non-profit centre, the preschool relies on events such as this, with last

year’s proceeds put towards a solar conversion which is currently being carried out by Wanaka Solar. Centre Manager, Lo Scurr, explains that this conversion fits well with the centre’s silver status in the Enviroschools Programme and the strong focus with the children on looking after our environment. A landscape plan has been undertaken for the outdoor development and a working bee resulted in a good part of the plan being carried out. Safety surfaces and equipment in outdoor play areas are expensive and this will be the area the raffle money will go toward. The Preschool was successful in a grant application to the Lottery, but more is needed to complete this major project. Preschool families will be out selling $5.00 raffle tickets. A maximum of 500 tickets will be sold and the value of ‘Sweet Lil Honey Eater’ is

We have received a number of driving complaints in our area which have been followed up. It is an aim for us to make our roads safer for all. Thanks to those motorists who speak up when they see poor driving. As the result of information received we have arrested a local male for damaging a number of signs in the Hawea area in February. The damage related to road signs and warning signs. This sort of damage clearly placed road users at risk and of course there is the ÂżQDQFLDO ORVV WR &RXQFLO We attended the crash of a mini van that left the road on Wednesday near Luggate.
