Volunteer for the Family Works Buddy Programme and become a mentor today!
The Family Works Buddy Programme contributes to the emotional and social well-being of children by matching them with carefully selected and trained adult volunteers in a well-supported mentoring relationship.
the opportunity to connect with different parts of the community, to learn new skills and to have some fun and laughter with a young person. Adult Buddies are all ages, and they have a range of interests and experiences to share.
The programme matches children aged 4 – 12 years with couples or individuals who share experiences, as they have fun together on a weekly basis doing no (or low) cost activities.
Prospective Buddy volunteers attend an initial training course which covers topics such as communication skills, guidelines and how to build a relationship with your Young Buddy. Ongoing support and supervision is given to all Adult Buddies.
The programme has been operating in Otago for 25 years and is focused on boosting children’s lives with friendship, fun, encouragement and positive attitudes. Buddy volunteers are quick to express the importance of the programme for them, the young person they support and the difference it makes. They talk about
