Thirty years on, the Wanaka Autumn Art School is still going strong. Set up in 1990 by the Upper Clutha Community Arts Council, the school was established to offer courses with a wide range of exceptional tutors from throughout the country and further afield. This practice still applies and the school attracts more than 200 students each year also from throughout New Zealand.

Brand new this year is a second stage on lower Helwick Street which will have local DJs playing from 9.00pm-1.00am. The new stage is part of a three year trial to provide another option for people to party, especially those too young to enter bars.

QLDC and the event organiser have been working closely with police, St John, Wanaka Community Board and other community stakeholders. Following feedback from previous years there will be additional security throughout the event. In addition, members of the Red Frogs Support Network will be in central Wanaka on 29 and 30 December in addition to New Year’s Eve to promote safe behaviour among young people.
