CHRISTMAS HAMPER & FOOD BANK DRIVE This year the Christmas Hamper and Food Bank Drive will be held on Wednesday 19 December. Food donations can be given during the drive (keep an ear out for the sirens on Wednesday evening) or dropped off anytime to our office at 73 Brownston St. Donations go toward creating Christmas hampers full of food and presents for families that are struggling – much appreciated at this time of year. We also appreciate cash donations as it allows us to buy the food we need, such as meat and milk, throughout the year. Cash donations can be collected during the drive or dropped into the Community Networks office at 73 Brownston Street – thank you for your support. Last year 70 Christmas hampers were given to families that may otherwise find it difficult to celebrate and to date this year, around 167 food parcels have been given out from the foodbank. Walking has been shown to be good for us‌ so with that in mind a local Wanaka walking support group has started! The aim is to connect people who have recently been affected by cancer; either undergoing treatment, a carer, or recent loss of a loved one. The group, called “Can walkâ€?, is about connecting people in a positive way and getting out for a short walk. The first “Can walkâ€? took place on Tuesday 27 November, with 6 people meeting up at the Edgewater cafĂŠ, we headed out along the Millennium track for up to 30 minutes. As there were different abilities and paces we made a plan to all meet for coffee/tea and a chat afterwards. It was a perfect day with just enough sun and lots of great conversation! The hope is that by meeting other people in our community we realise we are not alone in

our experience and can relax with others who understand what you’re going through. There is also an option to join us for coffee after the walk if you are unable to walk. We will continue to meet every Tuesday at 11am at the Edgewater Hotel cafÊ. There is no expectation to attend every walk just when it suits. We also have amazing volunteers who can assist with travel to and from the venue. team towards their target of $15,000. The team has received great support from local businesses and has also been selling peonies in their fund raising effort to get them to the national final. Hillary Outdoors organises the challenge, which has been designed to encourage a wider participation in outdoor pursuit activities.
