JAN-FEB 2012 THE WEDDED BLISS |
From the beginning, Crystal Jones and Kelly Tipton knew they wanted a wedding that was spectacular and unique, but still classic and intimate. It was important to them that the evening be a celebration of their love and marriage rather than a walk through of mustdo-traditions. They wanted every part of their wedding and reception to be personal, so they incorporated special things that were indicative of them as a couple. The ceremony was somewhat traditional, but far from ordinary. The reception was elaborate with bold fabrics and colors to show the couple’s fun side. Different florists were used for each venue with completely different color schemes and themes.
They were married in Crystal’s lifelong church, First Baptist of Longview by her childhood pastor. The breathtaking sanctuary was very romantic with white roses, hydrangeas, candles and greenery providing gorgeous décor. Nearly 800 guests attended. Crystal had a long list of doit-yourself projects that she had gleaned from wedding blogs, and a very talented and loving family to help carry out the tasks. Her creative mom was the wedding planner, her sister painted the wedding banner, her dad built tree supports and stage props while her grandmothers and aunts made everything from mint tea to pew stand covers.

Crystal had always envisioned her reception outside under a beautiful tent with nature all around, but since the couple planned their wedding in one of the hottest months in history, they had to improvise. Their florist transformed the venue into an English garden with a spectacular tree-lined entry. Organic decor featuring antique church pews, topiaries and tree canopies draped with orchids filled the 20,000 sq. ft. space, aglow with purple uplights and spotlights. Tents with chandeliers housed the various food vendors amidst flowering crape myrtle trees. Bold black and white fabrics

with purple, fuchsia, and gold accents spiced up the otherwise soft and romantic garden theme. The black and white dance floor was beneath an amazing 14-foot orchid and hydrangea chandelier. Instead of traditional wedding cuisine, the guests enjoyed all of the bride’s favorite foods from her favorite restaurants, including BBQ, pizza, seafood, Tex-Mex and original chicken nuggets. Guests also enjoyed snow cones, an ice cream sundae bar and an ice sculpture martini bar. Since the couple met at TCU, they incorporated their beloved Horned Frogs in to a 3D groom’s cake, which was a big hit. They also added touches like personalized sunglasses, koozies, matches and wildflower seeds for their guests to take home. Crystal and Kelly made their grand exit through a sea of sparklers and watched fireworks from a 1925 roadster. They wanted the reception atmosphere to be upscale with a warm southern feel, and thanks to their amazing vendors, it was exactly that!

WEDDING DRESS STYLES FOR EVERY FIGURE
12
Why does it always seem that brides in movies walk into a bridal boutique, look at a gown, try it on, and fall in love? While in real life, that’s hardly ever how the process works, and truly, finding the perfect wedding gown is a process. You can make the process fun and simple by becoming familiar with the five most popular styles. Each style is lovely, but choosing the right fit to accentuate your best assets and hide any areas of concern, will make the process of falling in love with your dream gown easy, no matter your shape or size.
body to show off your curves. Because the column dress is not as forgiving as other styles, it is best for lean and slender brides. A petite bride may choose this style to appear taller and longer. Keep in mind that the tight fit of a column dress may restrict movement and put a halt to some of your best dance moves.
1. A-LINE
The mermaid dress is considered the sexiest style. Also known as the fit-andflare, this design can cautiously be worn by different body types if attention is paid to the point where the skirt flares out. Flaring just past the hips can surprisingly flatter a larger hipped woman. A mermaid style that flares mid-thigh looks great on larger busted ladies by balancing out ample cleavage. The classic mermaid style, flaring just below the knee, can make shorter brides appear taller, but a tall hourglass figure will definitely make their jaws drop.
Getting its name from the shape the dress creates from its fitted bodice as it flows to the ground, the A-line dress is a classic and simple style. Although it is a good option for most brides, the full skirt of the A-line can hide a rounder lower body or create the illusion of curves on a narrow frame. The length can vary from above the knee to full length, flowing into a large train and minimizing the curves of a more voluptuous woman.
2. PRINCESS Similar to an A-line dress, the princess dress flares vertically but with a more dramatic effect. The style features clean lines running from the neckline to the hem and is a great design for ladies with a pear-shaped figure. The princess dress hides fuller hips while balancing the torso and focuses the eye on the length of the dress, making you appear slimmer.
3. COLUMN The column dress, also known as a sheath dress, has a narrow shape that flows straight from top to bottom. This design has no waistline and hugs the
and full floor-length skirt is an excellent choice for short-waisted women or pearshaped ladies, giving definition to the midsection and hiding the lower body. If you’re petite, the ball gown dress can overpower your small frame and may not be the appropriate choice for your body type.
The fit-and-flare gown, also known as the mermaid, looks stellar on just about any body! 4. MERMAID
Although you may have your “dream dress” in mind, it’s important to know that every wedding gown is not for every bride. When beginning the process of shopping for your wedding gown, keep an open mind. Be sure you try on your “dream dress”, but also try on several other styles. You may be surprised how different designs can really show off your best features, and let your true beauty shine through on your wedding day.
What Is My Body Shape?
5. SLIPDRESS No matter your height, if you’re thin and very fit, then the slip dress is for you. The very basic style and minimum detail of this dress give it the look of lingerie, skimming the body from bustline to hem. The slipdress will accentuate curves and is a good choice for more confident brides.
6. BALL GOWN The ball gown dress is most likely the dress you’ve had in mind since you were a girl. Put there by fairy tales, it’s a design created for a princess. The fitted bodice

| THE WEDDED BLISS JAN-FEB 2012
JESSICA GEE AND BLAKE ROSS Jessica and Blake first met at a karate class 6 years ago. Blake says he knew he would marry Jessica from the first day. On December 24, 2010, both of their families were celebrating Christmas at his parent’s house. When everyone was finished opening presents, Blake made Jessica the center of attention. He brought out a gift that when Jessica unwrapped, was a locked box. He gave her the key, but she could not unlock the box. Jessica turned to ask Blake for help with the box and found him down on one knee with the ring box open in his hand. He said “Jessica, you make me the happiest man in the world. Will you marry me?” Jessica couldn’t bring herself to speak and started crying and hugging him. Finally her sister spoke up and reminded her that she should answer Blake. She, of course, said yes. The key actually did open the lock box and inside was the extended care plan for the ring. They are set to get married at Friendship Baptist Church in Gladewater Texas on March 10, 2012. They both say they cannot wait.
SHELBY GIDEON AND KEVIN DAWSON
Shelby secretly hoped that Kevin would one day propose and thought it would be incredible to have him propose at the concert. But she knew they had discussed waiting to get married for a few more years while they finished college and didn’t want a long engagement. Swift sang song after song and none of them were “Love Story.” Shelby was a little disappointed because she wanted to hear it. The next to last song at the concert was “Love Story!” Everyone was having a great time and Shelby’s favorite part of the song was coming up. She turned to Kevin to sing it to him like she always did and when she turned, Kevin was down on one knee singing the song to her. At the end of the part, he asked Shelby to marry him and of course, she said yes! They are getting married on May 19, 2012.
Photo by Casey Jay Benson Photography
On a beautiful Memorial Day weekend in 2010, Shelby Gideon, Kevin Dawson and their friends Bailey and Seth were on a trip to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for a Taylor Swift concert that had been planned for months. The group arrived at the concert early to see the other performers. Shelby, in particular was very excited to hear Swift sing her favorite song, “Love Story.” Shelby frequently sang the song to Kevin particularly focusing on the lyrics “when he knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said, marry me Juliet you’ll never have to be alone. I love you and that’s all I really know. I talked to your dad go pick out a white dress. It’s a love story baby, just say yes.”
MORGAN NUNNALY AND ERIC ANDERSON Morgan Nunnally said she hated clichés, “When you know, you know” being one of them. However, now she says how true that cliché is. The life she had planned and envisioned for herself included dating the man of her dreams for a few years, being engaged for a year ending with a summer wedding. It turns out her plans did not go exactly like she had thought they would. She met Erik in June 2010 and when they get married, they will have known each other for a year and a half.
Morgan said “Uh-huh” and then “Yes!” and then wondered where her dad was. Almost on cue, her dad popped out of the bushes with a goofy hat and a huge grin. Morgan says, “My family was there and my friends were there. It was perfect.”
JAN-FEB 2012 THE WEDDED BLISS |
Morgan’s first reaction was to say “What are you doing up there? Get down! You are making a scene!” It took her a minute to figure out that it was all for her but when she did, she rushed over the steps. Morgan says the next moments felt like they were in slow motion but that nothing was going to stop her from reaching Erik at the top of the stairs. She saw her mom taking pictures and realized that everything had been planned. When she finally reached Erik, he said the most wonderful things, got down on one knee and asked Morgan to marry him.
It wasn’t love at first sight, but it didn’t take long for Morgan to fall for Erik’s confidence, enthusiasm, kind heart, and his ability to pick up the phone and actually call her. Erik proposed on April 3, 2011. The couple had talked about marriage, getting engaged, and had even gone and looked at rings. Morgan waited as patiently as she could, but she was getting a bit antsy by April. The couple had gone to Dallas to see one of Morgan’s favorite artists, Janet Jackson in concert. On their way out of town on Sunday, some of their friends suggested that they have a picnic at the Dallas Arboretum. As soon as they arrived, Morgan began scoping out a place to sit down for their picnic but her friends found something wrong with every spot she chose. The group finally found a spot and started opening up the picnic and the men wandered off. Soon, one of them came back and declared they had found a better picnic area. So, the group packed up and headed to the alleged better picnic area. As Morgan reached the new spot, she stopped dead in her tracks when she saw Erik. He was sitting on a bench in a small alcove in the arboretum, elevated by rock steps. Erik had roses on one side of him, and champagne on the other and there were rose petals everywhere! Erik also had the biggest grin on his face.
39
Her reality turned out to be that she met the man of her dreams, dated him for 9 short months, will be engaged for 9 months and will be having a winter wedding. But Morgan says “When you know, you know.”
