submitting weddings. Now any blissful bride in our area can submit her beautiful wedding for a chance to have it featured in the magazine for free! (For more information visit www.theweddedbliss.com/weddings) Being featured in the magazine goes far beyond announcements. From submissions we receive, we will be able to create new and inspirational content for our readers and brides-to-be. From fun invitations and save-the-date’s to breathtaking bouquets and cakes, we want to feature the best East Texas has to offer. Our goal is to increasingly become a prominent voice in the local wedding community by connecting our readers, vendors, and brides to one another, and by setting new and exciting trends in our industry. Another way we are wanting to accomplish this is through the use of social media. Be sure to keep your eyes on our Facebook page for polls and fun wedding-centered questions. We plan on taking the responses we receive from Facebook and publishing them in the magazine. This is just another easy and exciting way you can be involved! Needless to say we are truly excited. Excited about our growth, excited about our change, and excited about our next 50 issues – and beyond.

Once the first notes of “Here comes the bride” begin, all eyes will move down the aisle to where the beautiful bride is making her entrance. However, it’s the groom who the guests will be looking to with excitement and anticipation of nuptials. For this reason, it’s important for the groom to dress in something that makes him stand out from the crowd. A tuxedo will do just that. At Sir Knight Tuxedos, Trent Tutt and his staff combine the services of a personal shopper with the convenience and affordability to be the leading men’s formal wear provider. From the latest fashions to timeless classics, Sir Knight offers a full selection of tuxedos and accessory rentals to help their clients dress
for any occasion - from proms, quinceañeras, black tie affairs and yes, weddings! For more than two decades, Sir Knight has been outfitting men for special events. The business is the oldest locally owned men’s formal wear operation in East Texas. Trent purchased the business from its founder in 2008, and has enjoyed it every step of the way. “We enjoy what we do. It’s exciting being a vital part of our customer’s important events in the different stages of their lives. We start with their school events and end with their weddings,” says Tutt. “It’s also rewarding to witness our customer’s confidence boost from the tuxedo attire we provide them.”
“Fashions change, but Sir Knight’s commitment to excellent customer service does not.”

Tutt said one thing that sets Sir Knight apart from other formal wear businesses is their wide selection of merchandise. They carry the largest local inventory in East Texas. “We have a vast selection of tuxedos with different style choices along with many color accessories. Due to our large inventory, we are able to provide the latest trend in the fashion industry at the lowest price.” When visiting Sir Knights, a customer will first have a consultation with one of the courteous representatives on hand. Then the customer will be measured and fitted. Once the order is complete, the customer will try their tuxedo and accessories on to make sure that everything is correct and satisfactory. “We strive to ensure that all of our customers receive a positive and pleasant experience,” Tutt added. Even the bride can utilize the acclaimed tuxedo shop! Tutt invites all brides to get involved in the process by bringing a color swatch or two. “This helps coordinate groomsmen with bridesmaids looks,” he said.”It is also helpful for us if we can have all names in the bridal party.” Fashions change, but Sir Knight’s commitment to excellent customer service does not. Stop by their location in Longview and let their associates groom you.

The choices of wedding dresses are vast – A-line or mermaid? Princess or empire silhouette? Circular or gathered skirt? What’s more, when shopping for the very important wedding piece, you’ll also need to take into account the fabric that will make up your frou- frou frock. Yes, even the fabric can be a big decision. No doubt about it: the same dress made up of different materials is two different gowns. The fabric a bride selects helps to convey her mood, her style, and even her comfort level. From the warmth of velvet to the coolness of satin, the fabric, as well as the gown, has to reflect the individuality of the bride.
SATINS SILK DUCHESS SATIN: This fabric always sets the bar high for satin. It has a high sheen and richness that in satins, is unparalleled. Also referred to as silk-faced satin, this finish weighs less than traditional silk finishes and is usually less expensive. Most Duchess satins are a blend of silk and rayon woven into a satin finish. POLYESTER SATINS: A variety of today’s gowns are manufactured using one form of this polyester or another. Much of its popularity comes from its inexpensiveness when compared to the costs of other fabrics. If possible avoid a gown that is made with a polyester satin that is too thin or too shiny. It will simply not do your gown justice. ACETATE SATINS: Unlike their polyester counterparts, acetate satins have a tendency
CHOOSING THE RIGHT FABRICS FOR YOUR DREAM DRESS
to wrinkle. They also have a substantial shine to them. Acetate satins work nicely underneath laces or as accents when not a lot of it is showing.
SILKS One of the more expensive materials, this is called the “pearl of fabrics.” Silk has a shiny, very smooth surface. It’s appreciated not only for beauty but also durability. This airy material is the best option for a summer bridal gown. A downside is that silk creases fairly easily, but a quick once over with a handheld clothes steamer can make it smooth as silk again. SILK SHANTUNGS AND DUPIONIS: Silk shantungs and dupionis are the silks most often used in wedding gowns. These are great fabrics for the bride who wants a natural look. The primary difference between shantung and dupioni is that silk shantung uses a slightly heavier yarn. It also costs a little more.
SHEER FABRICS Sheer fabrics help to portray a romantic, dreamy look. Some include: ORGANZA: Available in silk and polyester versions, organzas offer a distinct sheerness and stiffness. They’re great for full skirts when a bride is looking not only for a sheer look but additional body. Organza is also good for sleeves, backs and overlays. CHIFFON: This is a sheer fabric that drapes beautifully. A transparent, lightweight fabric finish, chiffon can be made from just about any fabric. It is often
layered and has an unusual luster. It has soft, wonderful, romantic qualities that are hard to match in other fabrics. TULLE: Veils and tutus are made from tulle and, in recent years, wedding gowns with tulle skirts have grown in popularity. The best of these gowns have six to twelve layers of tulle, which creates a very full, cloud-like skirt. BATIST: This is a delicate, sheer, plain-woven fabric. It is slightly thicker than cotton. A bride who wants a Victorian or vintage look may want to consider batiste fabric because of its “home-made” look and translucent texture . CREPE: This is a light, thin fabric that is a traditional material for a mother-of-the-bride ensemble or a polished destination wedding dress. It has a heavier weight than most silks and a very fluid, beautiful drape. CHARMEUSE: This is one of the most comfortable fabrics to wear, though not quite as lustrous as satin. It is expensive and must be handled with care: The material is prone to being scuffed or marked in addition to “looping” when it catches on things. TAFFETA: This is a very tightly woven, stiff, crisp fabric. Because of these properties, taffeta looks great on structured ball gown style wedding dresses. Taffeta makes “swooshing” noises as it rubs against itself, so most brides use taffeta sparingly in their wedding gowns. The best test of any fabric is how it looks on you, the bride. Make sure it works with who you are, how you feel and the look you’re going for. Let the fabric, like the rest of the gown, be as individual as you are.

jessica Drew aND justiN Hurst

Jessica Drew met Justin Hurst at a college bible study group one night in 2004. Justin was playing pool before the group started and Jessica and girlfriend were walking in the door when her eyes met his. She says, there was an instant connection. She also remembers thinking “he’s really cute!” As the night went on, eye contact was made more than a few times and smiles were exchanged. Jessica and Justin soon started talking and running into each other at the usual Wednesday night bible study and before long they were dating. They stayed together for almost a year and ended the relationship as friends. Justin moved to Dallas and Jessica stayed in Tyler to become a paralegal. Jessica ran into Justin’s dad all the time in Tyler and they would visit about how things were going, family, friends, and of course how Justin was also doing. Justin’s dad also made sure Jessica knew how difficult it had been on their entire family when the couple broke up. Justin’s dad had even told Jessica that he wished the couple would get back together and that Justin referred to Jessica as, “The One That Got Away!” Jessica says she would just smile and say “Well, things happen for a reason.” On June 15, 2010, while at work Jessica got a notification that she had a Facebook message. It was from a guy she didn’t know. But after reading it closely, she realized Justin was using his best friend’s Facebook to track her down. Justin left her his phone number and said he really hoped to hear from her. She was in complete shock as she had not talked to or seen Justin in 6 years! The two began talking and making trips back and forth from Dallas to Tyler. After months of the long phone calls, and “I wish you lived closer conversations,” Justin decided to move back to Tyler. March 9, 2011 he popped the question! It was a typical Friday night and Jessica says she thought they were going to dinner and a movie. They did have dinner, at her favorite restaurant, Wasabi. In the middle of dinner, though, Justin stood up smiled at Jessica, walked around the table and got down on his knee in the middle of the restaurant! With all eyes on them, he asked her to spend the rest of her life with him! Jessica says, “It was one of the best days of my life. My first love was back in my life for good!”
amaNDa LowDermiLk aND BriaN GraNBerry It was Christmas Eve and Amanda Lowdermik had been cooking all week in preparation for family coming over to enjoy a bonfire and riding four wheelers. After dinner, everyone climbed on their four wheelers and took off to ride. She and Brian were riding together. Towards the end of the ride everyone started to go ahead of them and Brian slowed down. Amanda didn’t know what he was doing but finally he stopped under the stars and moon exactly where the couple had sat the first night they met. On this Christmas Eve, they sat and talked for a little while, and the conversation turned to the future. Brian got off the four wheeler and got down on one knee. He told Amanda how much he loved her, that he wanted them to spend their lives together. He wanted Amanda’s children to be his children and her children to be his. Brian wanted them to be a complete family. Amanda says, she never thought she would be proposed to on a four wheeler but because that’s what she and Brian liked, it was romantic to her because she was with him. She says she knew Brian loved her for “her.” She was wearing sweats, camouflage boots, no makeup, a T-shirt and a Carhart jacket. Essentially, the same outfit she had on when they met. Amanda says she could see the diamonds from her ring sparkle from the moon light, but she wanted to hurry home so she could take everything in and look at what a beautiful job he had done of picking out her ring. When they returned to the house, everyone already suspected there had been a proposal and were so happy for them. Amanda called her mom first to tell her the news. Amanda says, “I could not be blessed with a man who loves me more for ME than I am with Brian. He is the most amazing man. I thank God daily for him. He can put up with me and deal with me in the gentlest way, and in ways that no one else ever took the time to know me. We just work well together. I cannot wait for us to be a complete family!”

Wedding bouquets are a lot like wedding dresses. Every bride needs one and they come in a variety of shapes and sizes. But how do you find a bouquet that fits with your theme, consists of the blooms you’d like to use and still expresses your personality? Barbara and Thomas Tidwell of La Tee Da Flowers on the Square in Tyler want to help you in picking out your perfect bouquet. From vibrant orchids to classic white roses, let these photos of their favorite bouquets inspire you.
1. FALL FRENZY | As rich as a floral stilllife, this dome-shaped fall bouquet of warm-hued flowers such as red amaranthus, plum dahlia, calla lilys and
cymidium orchids is enhanced by coffee bean and monkey tail.
2. PRETTY IN PINK | An abundant bouquet of soft pink flowers lends credence to the phrase blushing bride. This lush bouquet is made of frill frilly edged tulips, anemones, peonies and helleborus.
3. PEACHY KEEN | Various pinks and peaches work nicely together, bringing out the undertones in the blooms, flattering one another and the person who bears them. Here, coral charm peonies flutter like butterflies among gardenias, anemones, peach garden roses and campanula.
4. BLUSHING BRIDE | Casual and cheerful
blush peonies, French lilacs and vendela roses from Ecuador — in a range of vivid pinks — form a delightful bouquet for the bride-to-be.
5. BLACK MAGIC WOMAN | For brides going for a more vintage-style wedding, a Glamelia bouquet is just what she needs to carry down the aisle. It’s handmade from individual rose petals, wired together to create a full bloom that resembles a camellia.
6. DESERT CHIC | In this bouquet, iceblue succulents decorate a soft-hued arrangement of natural stones, sahara roses, lilac and tallow berry. Trendy in the Western states, this earthy piece offers up a type of “desert chic.”

hot engagement photo ideas For many couples, taking engagement photos is one of the first activities that gets the ball rolling toward the alter. Since it does come at the beginning, it’s important to get started on the right photo foot. The new trend embraces the unusual and unique — this could mean booking a weekend trip with your photographer for a “destination” shoot or creating photos in your own backyard. Capturing the personality of the soon-tobe bride and groom is key, and anything goes. It’s all about a couple expressing themselves in a less formal way than they will on their wedding day. The mood is often fun, playful, loving, quirky and one-of-a-kind. With this fresh attitude driving newly engaged couples, photographers are memorializing the bride- and groom-tobe in everything from funky retro attire to elegant eveningwear. The fantasy locations range from an amusement part Ferris wheel to a checkered beach blanket by the ocean.

props to you If you’re a little camera shy or maybe you just don’t know what to do with your hands, using props is an easy way to become more comfortable in front of the camera (Think: you with a handful of flowers or your main squeeze holding his cowboy hat). Cars, bikes and parasols are simple ways to add a pop of color and make a picture come to life. A few This movie-inspired photo session pays homage to the 2011 Oscar-winning film, “The Artist.” The couple was able to bring out their inner actors as they struck a romantic pose – a replication of the little props can make engagement photos film’s official movie poster. a lot more fun than just a regular portrait. • Large wooden initials of your new last name In addition, they can put you and your • Flowers partner more at ease. destination Couples have weddings on the beach, amusement parks, even at zoos from time to time, so why not have a photo session at these places, as well? Another idea is to convene with nature and have photos taken in the great outdoors. There’s something
very romantic about two people in love exploring uncharted areas together. You don’t have to pose in hiking boots; balance the beauty of an elegant outfit with a breathtaking outdoor setting.

imitation From re-enacting romantic films to staging a zombie invasion, many couples are taking their engagement photos to the next level, and are having a great time doing it! Do the two of you have a favorite book or movie, or is there a work of art that helped your relationship blossom? Work with your photographer to shoot a session inspired by a work of any kind that you two are passionate about.
Engagement shoots do not always have to be serious. Why not try something fun, while showing off your silly and creative side? This whimsical, theatrical setup is reminiscent of Peter Pan and Wendy, flying off to Neverland.

a day in your life Ask your photographer to follow the two of you around for a day as you visit your favorite restaurants, parks, museums, first date spots and other venues. The photographer will capture the two of you interacting as you move through your day. It’s natural and it’s exciting – just like your life’s adventure together.
MAY-JUN 2012 THE WEDDED BLISS |
Your home may describe you better than any other place on earth, so this could be a good starting point for a fun photo shoot! Inviting your photographer into your home to observe you in your most natural setting will boost your comfort level and allow you do be yourselves and enjoy one another while the camera snaps away. Your photographer can get playful shots of the two of you cooking together, playing board games or just doing what you do best – being in love.
First dates are great inspiration for truly memorable engagement portraits. Go back to the scene of the crime when he or she stole your heart. This date-night at the movies theme represents the newness of love while incorporating fun movie-theater props!

FRESH BOHO LOOKS FROM THE DYNAMIC DUO OF STYLE AND BEAUTY
TODAY, BOHEMIAN ISN’T JUST A STATE OF MIND – it’s a fashion statement. This offbeat, worldly style is ideal for that bride who chooses to move away from tradition and create a more inspired, natural look. It is a look that reflects both personal style and creativity, one that is sure to be given a glamorous edge in many Summer 2012 weddings. We caught up with Tony Allen and Emily Laird who shared some hot, new, and awe-inspiring looks for the beautiful boho bride.

THE INNOCENT GYPSY

THE HAIR For stunningly gorgeous boho hair, messy curls and braids are key; and with a multitude of braiding techniques to choose from, the sky is truly the limit. Tony used three loose braids and two tight braids as the cornerstone for this sultry look, that could either be worn down (THIS PAGE) or as a relaxed and striking updo, for those hot Texas summers. (OPPOSITE) Tony also created soft curls throughout and added a wildflower to enhance the natural vibe. “I love bringing nature into the hair; adding flowers and feathers is a great way to look even more boho,” Allen said. THE MAKEUP To achieve the au-naturale, no-fuss look, Emily went for neutral colors. “I started with applying neutral pink on entire lid, followed by purple liner around her eyes and blue liner along the top lid.” Laird goes on to say, “I love to use neutral shimmer shadows as a highlighter for the brow bone. This gives an angel-like glow to the eyes, while giving off a stunning wide-eyed look.” She then applied a light blue color directly under the brow bone, blending it with a brush – subtlety is the key! Emily then added a hot pink shadow, swooped under the blue, then blended all the colors with a tapered brush. THE DRESS This Sottero and Midgley gown is a boho bride’s dream dress. The bride’s free-style spirit can be magnified as she walks down the aisle in this long, flowing gown with tiers of lace. The satin band with a dazzling display of flowers highlights her natural curves, and stunning lace glistens with beaded embellishments accenting the tulle silhouette; Aurora JSM1414, provided by Dress Me Bridal, www.dressmetexas.com Images on the following pages were shot at Elmwood Gardens, in Palestine, TX. BRONZE CLEOPATRA THE HAIR For this fun and free hairstyle Tony used a pencil curling wand, then used his fingers to pick through the hair, to create the bride’s long elegant curls. “Using a curling wand provides a great way to add soft, wavy curls, while leaving the ends loose. Curls that are placed randomly throughout the hair will create that look of just throwing your hair up and walking down the aisle,” says Allen. THE MAKEUP For a darker bohemian look, Emily chose to use earthy golds and browns. “I began by applying a gold cream shadow around the entire eye, across the lids and under the bottom lashes. The tones really opened up the models eyes for a another wide-eyed look,” said Laird. To make the look more “Cleopatra,” she used a chocolate brown to accentuate and define the brow area. To accomplish this, she applied a square beginning just under the brow bone. “You need to keep it boxy to create that strong edge, which gives it that aggressive flare,” Laird explained. She then applied a highlighter on the brow bone, as well as to the highest point of the cheekbones. Finally, Laird applied black liner on the inner top and bottom lid, then finished the look with mascara, neutral lip gloss and a bronzer swept across her cheekbones, barely kissing the entire face. THE DRESS This antique ivory gown from Allure Bridals embodies the boho chic look with its delicate lace appliqués, slightly scooped neckline, taffeta ruched waistband, and sweep train that follows behind it; Allure 8917, provided by Dress Me Bridal, www.dressmetexas.com. Images on the following pages were shot at Stonewood at Elmwood Gardens, in Palestine, TX. (www.elmwoodgardens.com)
THE HAIR A bohemian bride may opt for a statement headpiece instead of the traditional veil. From the elegant and simple, to the grand and prominent, floral wreaths made from fresh flowers instill a sense of romance, while releasing your inner goddess. To compliment this full and vibrant hair wreath, Tony teased the models tresses, providing ample volume to coincide with the headpiece. This raw and untamed hairstyle contrasted perfectly with the elegant flowers, creating a look straight from the pages of A Midsummer’s Night Dream. THE FLOWERS The fresh and vibrant flowers which make up the exquisite bouquet (OPPOSITE) and hair wreath (THIS PAGE) feature an array of roses, fresh lavender, snowberries, peonies, parrot tulips, ranunculus, wax flower, white French lilac and hypericum berries; Bouquet and hair wreath created by La Tee Da Flowers, www.lateedaflowers.com.
The Wedded Bliss would like to personally thank Mrs. Jill Smith, owner of Dress Me Bridal, for supplying the beautiful wedding gowns, Mrs. Barbara Tidwell, owner of La Tee Da Flowers, for creating the extravagant bouquet and floral wreath, and Mrs. Dee Dee Turnage, owner of Elmwood Gardens, for letting us use your awe-inspiring venue to host our photo shoot. Without each of your support our photo shoot would not have been possible.
