Are you a bread lover like me? Bread and I go way back. Quick breads, yeast breads, sweet or savory breads… it really doesn’t matter. I am weak in all

things bread. Probably not the best thing in the world to be a huge fan of, but I’d choose bread over chocolate most any day. Breads have gotten a bad rap over the years because of their carb-o-licious-ness, but moderation is key, right? If moderation is key, being smart about the carbs you consume will keep you and your scale happy. So, to participate in the whole moderation thing, I’ve become a pretty picky bread eater. Picky doesn’t necessarily mean whole grain and all of that, for me it simply means good quality. Forget about that boring dinner roll or dry hamburger bun, don’t waste your time. Hold off for that amazing slice of sourdough. You may not have that yummy bread every day, but when you do, it will be worth the wait. Waiting for the best is always worth the wait. Quick breads are our bread focus today, the easiest of bread things to make. If you simply own a bowl, a spoon, and have a few

simple ingredients, you can just about make these recipes with your eyes closed! Taste and texture have certainly not been compromised here, these breads are definitely worth waiting for. If you’re wondering what quick breads are, it’s simply a bread that’s been leavened (or made to rise or puff up) with something other than yeast or eggs. That’s what makes these so quick and easy. No yeast, no kneading or rising. Just dump, stir and bake. Surprisingly, quick breads include many cakes, brownies, cookies, pancakes, cornbread, muffins, scones, and of course banana and pumpkin bread fall into this category, as well. Today we are going to focus on a few little quick bread loaves. These are perfect for breakfast, coffee or tea time, and make great little gifts any time of the year. The nut bread recipe below is a classic. Served in my parent’s tea room several decades ago, it makes a great afternoon snack with coffee or tea. Here, it’s made with pecans, but those can be easily swapped out with your favorite.
Next, is the strawberries and cream bread. The name alone just makes you want to melt. Or hide the scales, I’m not sure which! This slightly sweet bread is so moist and made even better with the contrast of the tart bits of strawberries that are in every bite. Heaven. The oh-so-versatile buttermilk bread is amazing and just crazy easy. This bread holds up well eaten alone (with a spread of butter) or turned into a topless sandwich. For a fancier treat, swirl in a bit of brown sugar and cinnamon into the raw dough or fold in some blueberries before baking. If it’s a savory bread you’re after, this bread will not disappoint. Try reducing the sugar and add in some pesto and parmesan. Voila. Pesto Bread. So easy. For another twist, add assorted diced olives and some cheddar before baking and you’ve got a super easy meal along with a side salad. Hmm, a meal of bread and salad. Perfect. If you want to turn the basic recipe into a little slice of breakfast, simply add some cooked ground sausage and your favorite shredded cheese. Throw it into the oven and you have a grab-and-go winner. So many options here. Are you hungry yet?

process never stops, that there's always something to learn in photography and in business. “I don't think there is ever a good photographer that stops the learning process. I look forward to our annual PPA convention every year to learn what's new in the business and how I can be a better photographer.” All of her learning and hard work has paid off, as she and her team are almost finished building a gorgeous, new studio at the Swanns Plaza on Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler. The new location promises a big,

Brides can rely on Donna Cummings and her team at Donna Cummings Photography to capture those moments beautifully. Donna is a Professional Photographer certified by Professional Photographers of America and has been in business for nearly 12 years. The business grew out of a love for art and photography. In fact, Donna always wanted to be an artist, but her parents suggested that she go to college and get a degree to fall back on. She attended a university, but was in no rush to finish. “I won the award at my high school ten-year reunion for the most years in college with no degree!” Donna says. “I finally finished my Bachelor's degree in Applied Science in 2003 from UT Tyler. I got my first professional camera that year and joined Texas Professional Photographers Association and started really learning professional photography.” Donna photographed her first wedding in 2003 with her sister-in-law and business partner Amanda Bray. It's been a learning process since then and Donna says the
natural light camera room and a pond for outdoor portraits. “We have always worked in my home studio and we are taking it up a notch by moving into a studio space, but we think it will provide a better experience for our brides and their families,” Donna says. Donna offers various photo packages for brides including engagement and bridal. And whether you're looking for local flair or an exotic elopement, Donna has you covered. Her wedding packages include close-to-home and destination weddings. “I love to travel and have had the privilege of photographing many destination weddings,” says Donna. “I have photographed weddings all over Texas and in Arizona, Florida, New York at West Point Academy, Jamaica, and my favorite, Hawaii!” Donna says she adores going to new places, so any time she meets a bride considering a destination wedding, she loves brainstorming about all the possibilities. But no matter where the wedding takes place, Donna will be there to capture it as it unfolds. When asked how she would describe her style, she said she calls it 'prompted reality.' “We capture the day as it happens, but we try to make it more beautiful by choosing when and where your moments happen. For example, the bride will put on her gown, but by choosing when and where she gets dressed, we can make her portraits more beautiful.” It's all about seeing the art within reality and within those moments, like the bride putting on her veil, that so easily get lost within the mind if not captured on film. If there's one thing that stands out most about Donna it's that she loves every aspect of her job, from meeting brides and
I also love the creativity of shooting and even the editing process is fun to me.” It's clear that creativity flows through Donna's work and brides love working with her because of her artistic talent and personal, friendly nature. Helping people feel comfortable and collecting those amazing wedding moments is what a good photographer should do and is why Donna recommends every couple hire a professional photographer for their big day. When looking for a photographer, she suggests finding one you trust and whose personality you like. She also recommends looking through a photographer's portfolio and asking to see an entire wedding, instead of just a few photos. “I just like clients to know that hiring a professional, experienced photographer is the best money you can spend on your wedding. A good photographer can help alleviate possible wedding day disasters and can make your wedding look beautiful. The pictures will be what you remember and will shape your memories of that special day.” Brides and their families can expect Donna and her team to be friendly and professional to everyone attending the wedding. Kaylyn Bergfeld works as a part-time photographer with Donna and Amanda Ratliff is their office manager. “We bring our talent and experience to make every bride feel special and to help capture the beauty of their wedding and all of their special moments.” Feeling camera shy
is never a problem when Donna and Amanda are around. “Both Amanda and I are very approachable, friendly girls with our own insecurities. We know what looks good and can help with posing and position to make anyone look fabulous. Then we show a sneak peek on the camera and it gives a little boost of confidence and pretty soon our brides are smiling and looking sassy!” Donna and her team look forward to what 2015 holds and welcome brides and grooms with open arms. “Our business goal has always been and continues to be: To provide our brides with beautiful photography that captures their wedding memories and to preserve their beautiful images with quality archival products to last a lifetime.”
