Love in the city

THE RICHMOND HOTEL Liverpool

City hotel weddings continue to be popular; they have the advantage of being easy to get to with plenty of accommodation for guests. Brides, grooms and guests can always make a short break of it and stay on for a few more nights. Liverpool is booming both as a wedding and short stay destination, with so much to do in this cultural city.

12

Located in the Hatton Garden area of Liverpool city centre, close to Lime Street Station and St George’s Hall, The Richmond is a characterful Grade II listed building hosting around 60 weddings per year. Accommodating up to 160 wedding guests in the William and Kane Suite, The Richmond also boasts a breakout atrium space, bar and brasserie and 139 luxurious rooms. Another advantage of a city hotel wedding is an experienced staff team who know how weddings should flow, how important your big day is to you and how to make it special. It’s also important to have a co-ordinator who’s organised, detailorientated and calming!

Rebecca Humphreys is the weddings and events co-ordinator at The Richmond. Her top tip for brides and grooms is to make the most of the help available at the venue and look at the packages carefully.

‘I’d advise them to go for whichever wedding package suits their style of event, but we still leave room for flexibility; after all each couple is different. We have had lovely add-ons like light-up letters, sweetie carts and photo booths and I love the little touches like flip-flop baskets. We can put you in touch with some amazing vendors who will provide those personal additions for you.’ The all-important wedding breakfast menu is created by the hotel’s top chefs with different options designed to appeal to everyone. Rebecca adds, ‘I’d also advise couples to do a tasting session first of all; this ensures you’re not going to be disappointed with what you’ve chosen for your guests. At

The Richmond, we offer this as part of your wedding package and it’s something the couples really look forward to, a nice date night.

‘Day and evening guests both appreciate a buffet later on to give them energy for dancing, we have some fabulous options for evening food too plus of course a fully stocked and staffed bar.’ As the event flows from day to night the party really gets started; guests can strut their stuff on the light-up LED dance

floor to the tones of one of the venue’s recommended bands or DJs. The bar’s fully stocked with fine wines, beers and spirits; ideas for a fun evening drink include a gin bar or special cocktail or shot.

With 139 luxurious rooms including 52 apartments, The Richmond can comfortably accommodate the wedding party plus friends and family. The apartments can be taken together for a larger group or family giving even greater flexibility. Rebecca says ‘When the big day’s over, guests always say to me how nice it was to sink into one of our huge beds and wake up to a hearty hotel breakfast. So many come back for a first anniversary stay too, it’s great to see.’ A beautiful hotel, convenient facilities, helpful staff and great food and drink; that sounds like a memorable city wedding!

Wedding PLANNER How can they help? Wedding planner, Anthea Thomas of Athena Weddings, explains how she can help a couple plan their wedding.

and this goes in peaks and troughs. Quite hectic at the start as you try to secure venues and specific suppliers. Followed by a lull, until about 8 weeks before the big day when it gets frantic and the last two weeks can be a bit of a blur. I have been able to make a wedding happen in a few weeks due to a member of the Bridal Party finding out that a close family member was seriously ill. It was a race against time. But because of my amazing network of very reliable and generous contacts, the wedding was able to go ahead with all family members in attendance.

Why should a couple have a planner? Isn’t it only for the wealthy?

Definitely not just for the wealthy. I have a range of packages to suit a variety of budgets. Basically, a Wedding Planner takes away the stress. You as a couple are no longer accountable for organising everything. I am, the Planner. I give you a fresh set of eyes, an objective ear, and a firm but friendly face to redirect that pushy relative. On top of all that, I have a whole network of wedding suppliers that I know will do an outstanding job. A Wedding Planner can be just for the day itself. This leaves the couple to enjoy the day and not split themselves into event organiser, problem solver, and newly-wed.

How long does it take to plan a wedding? Usually, you are looking at 6-12 months 16

Key Wedding Planner Tips: 1. Add 10% to your budget, you will go over. 2. Remember why you are doing all of this. 3. Take time away from planning to just be a couple in love. images, colour swatches, fabrics, poems, song lyrics, anything that has aspects of their wedding in order to create the idea of their dream wedding. And then we begin to match reality to the dream.

How important is the connection between a Wedding Planner and the couple?

How do you get to know the couple and understand their needs? I meet a couple several times, I get them to tell me about their lives, not just their wedding. What do they like to do together? What are they like as individuals? How are they as a couple? From this, I can gauge how they are feeling about the wedding. Usually, around our third meeting, we make a Vision Board. We each bring

VITAL! We become friends. Both members of the couple have to like me, and I have to like them as, over the planning time, they need to trust me and be confident that I will make their day the best.

What happens when a couple don’t agree on key aspects? In this situation, I would speak to the couple individually to try and find out the root cause. This way I can work on finding alternatives to create a happy medium that I can present to the couple at our next joint meeting.

I am a hopeless romantic as well as loving the feeling of creating a lasting memory for someone. Being a Wedding Planner I can do that. I can make your wedding day The Most Amazing Day for you, the couple.

How do you help a stressedout bride/groom? Hopefully, there will be no stress as they have me doing the planning, but it can be an overwhelming time. I remind them both WHY they are doing all this and to focus on that. Spend some fun time together. Go out for a meal.

A Wedding Planner takes away the frantic and refocuses the blur.

to each other. And sharing personal vows adds a nice touch.

I like to meet the parents and remind them that this day is about the couple; that their child has found a partner that makes them happy. I also listen to their concerns and try to include them in the planning but at a distance.

What do you find are the most common mistakes couples tend to make when planning their wedding day?

What is your advice when couple gets to be nervous in ceremony?

Not getting Wedding Insurance! But also trying to please everyone which can result in forgetting and/or ignoring the Wedding Budget. And not taking time out of planning to just be in love.

Most. I tell them to keep their eyes on their partner as they enter the venue, and I work on breathing techniques if the nerves get really bad.

How do you work with overbearing parents or relatives? This is one of the best things about having a Wedding Planner because the couple doesn’t have to deal with this. They can tell parents and other relatives to talk to me.

What do you think is the most important aspect of the day? The vows. Declaring your love and loyalty

Wedding TRANSPORT Which car? What’s important to know? A complete guide to finding and booking the perfect cars for your big day. Once a venue is booked, booking wedding transportation may not immediately be at the top of most couples to do list but it should be. With the shift from weddings abroad to weddings at home that we are currently seeing, people are now more inclined than ever to arrive in style or want a fancy car in their wedding photographs.

different maybe you will consider a novelty vehicle such as a Hummer, a Tuc-Tuc or even a fully electric car? There seems to be more and more people considering something a little different and while some cars really fit in with wedding themes it doesn’t always work to throw a set of ribbons on any old car. The latest trend is definitely the VW camper van and with all the festival and teepee weddings planned for the next few years it definitely going to continue.

But which car? Vintage Cars Vintage cars are great to look at but they are getting rarer and rarer due to the difficulty in sourcing parts as some vehicles are now approaching 100 years old. The companies that supply these cars do a fantastic job of keeping our automotive history alive and long may it continue. You can expect to pay a little more for these vehicles due to the cost of the upkeep and the initial investment from the owners but if it’s within your budget you should definitely consider them. A really popular vintage vehicle would be a Routemaster London Bus, these are so much fun and what a way to treat your guests? Modern Classics An alternative to the older cars is the modern hand made vehicles, which are built to serve the wedding market. To anyone but an expert these cars are undistinguishable from vintage cars but have the reliability and performance of a modern car. They usually cost less than the vintage cars and look just as good in photographs if not better. Many of them have seven seats which can be beneficial for transporting bridesmaids. Quirky Cars If you are looking for something a little 24

flowers and ribbons? Will his wife have to arrange her own transport? Are you only inviting them to the wedding so you can use their car? In the end this may cost even more than hiring a professional car company for the day.

Insurance! Not all policies allow you to carry out weddings for family or friends and you should check and inform them that this is happening. Hiring a car could be the least expensive aspect of your wedding day. Far better to save a few pounds in other areas to ensure you get a professional service.

I have decided which car I want, what should I do?

Modern Luxury Cars If you are looking for the ultimate in modern luxury then maybe you will consider a modern car theme. These days you can hire everything from a Lexus to a Lamborghini and from a Mercedes to a Maybach. Why not treat the groom and best men with a ride in a luxury car he wouldn’t have on any normal day, after all its his day too! Family Friend’s Cars This might, at first, seem to be a cheaper alternative and maybe “Uncle Bob” has a nice motor. But here’s few things to consider: Will “Uncle Bob” feel like a guest or a supplier? You might think he’ll be ok with it but he might just not want to say no. Will he be allowed to park his private car nearby? Some venues only allow companies with public liability insurance to drive on certain areas. Will he have to stay with the car and miss the wedding as a result? Will he have to pay for parking? Will he look the part? Will his car be pristine, inside and out with

My top tip is to always visit the cars in their showroom and meet the owners of the cars. This will not only give you a chance to see if you get along with them but also to see how the cars are stored and cared for. If they pull back a damp sheet at the bottom of their garden, then walk away immediately! Look at the car as though you plan to buy it. Look for signs of rust and dirt that you wouldn’t expect to see on your wedding day. Wedding cars should be maintained to the highest of

Wedding cars are booking up earlier than you would expect with some brides and grooms booking up to 3 years in advance to secure their favourite motors.

standards and should look as good on the day you view them as they will on your wedding day.

are the third couple of the day and the car is full of footprints and confetti. Make sure you ask what else is happening on that day.

Drivers

Don’t be afraid to ask to see the insurance for the drivers and the vehicles and also the companies public liability insurance. If there is any ambiguities then walk away, it’s not worth the risk to your family and friends if the worst happens. Any reputable supplier will never mind you asking. The NAWCP is a voluntary association of wedding car providers and it’s members are honour bound to adhere to a strict code of conduct. It’s very inexpensive to apply to join so if your supplier isn’t a member, ask them why not? Maybe they don’t adhere to the guidelines or have been refused admission?

What to expect when meeting the car company Check what is included in the price. Some companies will have a set price for the duration of your wedding day, others will charge by the hour and some by mileage. Make sure the price you are quoted allows plenty of time for the wedding to run over. Ribbons for example, cost pennies and should never be a chargeable extra, silk flowers are normally standard too but you may want to arrange your own fresh flowers if you want them. Ensure that your car won’t be rushing off to do another wedding that day. It’s not so bad if your wedding is first but not if you

Your chauffeur should be dressed smart and have a cap. He should talk to you to settle your nerves and should be very courteous. It is his job to ensure you arrive exactly when you want to arrive and safely. He should always open the doors for you and your party and provide umbrellas if it is raining. Remember if you are getting modern cars you still want old fashioned customer service levels.

Bubbly It’s always nice to have a glass of bubbly on your journey to the reception and your wedding car provider should supply you with glasses and a champagne bucket if you wish. They should NOT provide you with the bubbly though unless they are licensed with the local authority to do so. This includes giving it to you as in incentive for booking. It is far better to provide half a bottle of what you like to drink to the driver rather than the bottle they have got from the supermarket bargain shelf.

Cost Like anything with weddings as soon as you mention the “W” word the price seems to go up. Some of the cost is justified due to the investment cost of the cars involved and the insurance costs mean that some companies can command

a high price. Costs will always vary from high season to low season and weekend to midweek so you can expect to pay more if you are marrying on a Saturday in June as opposed to a Wednesday in October. Cars can be provided from £100 to £800 for a single car but you can pay more for specialist vehicles. Its always better for a car company to have more than one car out so make sure you ask about package prices.

Booking forms These should always be provided and should form a contract between you and your supplier. Pay particular attention to any small print and consider cancellation charges that may apply if the wedding has to be postponed. Once you have booked keep in touch with your supplier and follow the company on social media. That way you can get a feel for how your day may look and you can read their latest reviews as they come in. About a month before the wedding you should get back in touch to confirm timings and again a few days before if anything changes slightly. After all this, relax and enjoy your day.

“Looking at forward to 2019 we will continue to see bouquets with varying colours and textures, The shapes will be moving towards loose shower bouquets or the wide oblong shaped bouquets that they have had in the states for a while.”

Wedding FLOWERS Trends Looking back on last year’s wedding bouquets the style of wedding bouquet is a lot looser than previous years with lots of different textures in flowers and foliage.

and undone in style and where bouquets are handtied they incorporate lot of foliage shapes and textures sticking out bits and trails we have also see natural grasses and feathers being used.

There has been a sharp move away from brides wanting no foliage to wanting lots of foliage. The dominant trend for bouquets this year has definitely been a just-picked, slightly wild looking bouquet with lots of different shapes, textures and trails of foliage with the flowers.

Rachel Joyce Photography

Colour wise although blush is still there it is less prominent than last year and lilac shades seem to be taking its place or lilacs are being combined with blush to provide a more interesting colour palette. This year more than most we have seen autumn brides opting for the beautiful strong colours of the season. Towards the end of the year we have seen a peak in shower bouquets but more wild 28

or the wide oblong shaped bouquets that they have had in the states for a while.

Joanna Rose Photography

Looking to 2019 Looking at forward orders for 2019 the wilder edgy look is going nowhere and I think we will continue to bouquets with varying colours and textures that will come from a palette of colours rather than just one or two. The shape seems to be moving away from round and we are likely to see the move towards loose shower bouquets

This more natural look is reflected in what brides are choosing to decorate churches and wedding venues. We are seeing large Milk churns arrangements a move from the more traditional triangular pedestal arrangement and mixed bunches on chairs and pews instead of more formal pew ends Where budget allows the arch is high up on many a brides wedding goals and another trend from the states the Moon Gate is also something that brides are asking for.

Rachel Clarke Photography

Mustard Yellow Photography

Reception and table arrangements Again the move towards the natural is mirrored in reception arrangements. For top table brides are going for less formal options the traditional long and low is often being replaced by full length garlands or arrangement of flower water falling down the length of the table again greenery is featuring heavily here. Lynette Matthews Photography

Joanna Rose Photography

For low table arrangements jars on log rounds are still popular and lend themselves well to this look. However we are also seeing other arrangements being asked for such as wreaths with candles in the centre, bird cages and hurricane vases with lots of flowers and foliage. When brides are looking for taller centrepieces candelabras seem to be making a comeback but rather than having a stiff ring or tight ball of flowers the look is relaxed again with lots of foliage and vines cascading down reflecting the loose undone look that a lot of the bouquets seem to be taking.

How did you meet?

We’d known each other for 13 years before getting married. We met in year 7 at high school on the way home for a camping trip at Tatton Park. We spent years as friends always liking each other at different points until 3 years ago when we both finally realised we were perfect for each other! And then a year and a half ago Tom proposed.

Who proposed and how?

Tom proposed! He took me to a place we used to meet up when we were in college, after a night watching a friend play a gig, on the 11th March 2017! I had no idea what we were doing until we arrived and he had our song playing from his car speakers and candles lite in a little heart, I stepped out of the car and he was down on one knee waiting for me!

Why did you choose The Mill Forge for the big day? We absolutely loved the place we chose

to get married because of how remote and simply beautiful it was. The venue was an old converted farm that we hired out exclusively for just us and our guests, which made it so personal. We were able to get married at the venue due to them having their own Forge where we married over the anvil with a minister and all of our loved ones around. We then had our wedding breakfast and evening reception in the same place with our guests able to go off to their rooms when they were finally shattered!

What was your theme and the venue decoration?

Theme and colour scheme, Navy Blue, Vintage/rustic. Favours, each of our guests got their own glass, wine glasses for ladies, whiskey glasses for the men. I personalised each one with the guests name and the date of our wedding day. And even added glittered stems to the ladies glasses. Each were filled with a little organza bags of sherbet

lemons. Table plan, I made my own table plan by removing the glass from a large box frame and adding flowers that matched our theme and then set out our plan in that. Centrepieces, again the centre pieces were my own creation. They consisted of a wooden log thin, with a tall vase filled with vintage/rustic blue and cream flowers, a smaller round glass jar filled with cream roses and a little easel with the table number on. Flowers, our flowers were all artificial due to the distance we were travelling to our wedding venue and we all created by Tom’s Mum. They consisted of lots of beautiful cream and different shades of blue flowers. Cake, our cake again was very rustic, displayed on a wooden log, all cream rough icing with beautiful blue and cream roses, topped with a wooden cake topper saying ‘Mr and Mrs Potter.’ Place names, our places names were made again by myself, they were made from brown tags with little white tabs with 35

each of the guests names on with little blue flowers to keep with the theme. Table names, we only had table numbers which were on little easels on the centre pieces. Other venue décor, we had a beautiful memory tree, filled with lots of cream flowers, crystals, hanging candles and pictures of our grandparents that couldn’t be with us on the day. We had real old red post box for our cards and gifts, an old vintage ladder decorated with vases of flowers to match with centre pieces and pictures of Tom and I.

earrings, a pearl hair slide and long veil with crystals hanging from the edges.

What dress did you wear?

What did the bridesmaids wear?

My dress was a floor length wedding dress by Alexia designs, bought from Wife to Be. It was covered from top to bottom in beautiful beading and was fitted three quarter of the way down the dress then fanned out around the bottom quarter. I accessorised with simple but beautiful silver and pearl necklace with matching 36

What outfit did the groom wear?

The groom wore a petrol blue suit, white shirt and an off white waistcoat with a lovely swirled/paisley patterned to them. Each of his groomsmen and both dads wore the same on the day, each coupled with a roses and thistle buttonhole. The suits were a joint decision but Tom did get the overall say so!

The bridesmaids wore stunning corset back, floor length navy blue dresses with hand embroidered bodices. They were very easy to pick as the girls were very happy to wear whatever I wanted them to, and they all looked beautiful on the day.

How did you entertain your guests? In the evening we had a big party with a DJ, Polaroid camera guest book, lots of beer and sparklers at the end of the evening.

What music did you choose?

For our first dance Tom and I had our song which is ‘I won’t let you go’ by James Morrison. And for the Dad and daughter dance we had ‘Father and Daughter’ by Paul Simon. For the rest of the evening we just had loads of fun music to laugh and dance to and lots of requests!

How did you both feel on the day?

The whole day was just amazing from start to finish, there was barely any stress due to

the venue being so helpful and all of our guests being in one place. The whole idea of getting married didn’t really hit me until I was walking over to the Forge holding my dads hand; I just remember a wave of emotion hitting me as I stood outside the doors. Then not being able to stop smiling for the rest of the day! I remember in the run up to the wedding teasing Tom that if he didn’t cry as I walked down the aisle, that I’d turn around and walk out and seeing him there stood at The the anvil waiting for me overcome with emotion was just the most amazing feeling, I remember getting to him and just wanting to squeeze him!

What parts stood out for you the most? I think just having all of our loved ones in one place and there celebrating with us, and getting to stand in front of them all

and marry my best befriend!

Who/what made your day extra special?

I think all of our friends and family made our day extra special! The people we had helping with things such as hair and makeup, our photographers who made everyone feel so at ease and relaxed in the day. My mum for helping me to make the day everything I could have ever imagined and for putting up with my perfectionist side!

Honeymoon, Where did you go?

relax and let the idea of being Mr and Mrs Potter sink in!

Your advice for couples planning their wedding?

If you have the time and resources it’s so, so nice to do as much of the wedding planning and creating yourself. I felt such a sense of achievement and was so proud of the way the tables, room and all of the extra little bits and bobs from the wedding looked. I created so much of it myself, including things like the order of services, confetti cones, little tags on the sparklers, little details that made it that little bit extra special.

For our honeymoon we jetted off to Ibiza, we went for five days, leaving on the Monday morning and arriving back on the Friday evening. Tom’s Dad and step Mum booked and paid for our break, we had the most amazing time in a beautiful place and it was so nice to have the time away to 37

How did you meet?

We went to the same school, had mutual friends but never knew each other. Met properly in college and got together but broke up after 2 years. Reconnected again after 7 years and fell back in love. A year later we got married.

Who proposed and How?

I took him to Rome for his birthday and he surprised me by proposing on the balcony of our hotel room on the first night.

Why did you choose Thornton Manor for the big day?

We could picture ourselves getting married there, it was the first venue we had seen that we could do that. We just fell in love with the place, it’s breathtaking.

What was your theme and the venue decoration?

Theme and colour scheme, Burgundy with sunflowers and some superhero Favours, charity pins and donation to

cancer research and Alzheimer, both important charities to us as we have lost grandparents to the illnesses. Table plan, digital on evolutionary images mirror photo booth. Centrepieces, alternated between the candelabras provided by the manor decorated with artificial vines and sunflowers/roses to reflect the flowers and floating burgundy/ivory candles with jewels and burgundy rose petals. Flowers, Junior bridesmaids and flower girl had artificial sunflower wands as they wanted to keep them, bridesmaids had sunflower bouquet and bride had sunflowers and burgundy roses. Buttonholes and corsages were burgundy roses. Sunflowers because they are my favourite flower and the first flowers he ever bought me, we felt burgundy went with the Autumn wedding. Cake, Split cake, front was white with the sunflowers and roses and figures of bride, groom and daughter Elyssa and back opened up like curtains to batman themed city of Gotham with the bat signal to reflect grooms love of batman. Other venue dĂŠcor, superhero napkins as well as the ivory linen to again add a bit

of the grooms personality. We had a sweet table with some of our favourite photos of us displayed. We had a memorial lantern in honour of those who have passed that we wish could have been there.

What did you wear?

Donna Lee bridal dress from Ellen Thomas bridal in Helsby.

Memorable moments

Lisa: Started the day pretty calm but as it got closer got more stressed and nervous. After the vows felt great, really happy but the day is mostly a blur. Stefan: Surprisingly very calm, just excited.

What parts stood out for you the most?

Walking down the aisle, yet photos and the speeches

Who/what made your day extra special?

The staff at Thornton Manor were exceptional, made the day go so smoothly. 39

When the Bridesmaids ask “who will do our makeup on the morning of the wedding?” The Bride responds….”Me!” Laura-Louise, a multi-award winning wedding makeup artist with 15 years of wedding experience explain, why you should invest in a professional makeup artist for your big day.

Why invest in a professional You will save money in the long term By the time you pay for a professional makeup lesson then buy all the products you might double the entire wedding budget! Instead, research wedding makeup artists via Google, perhaps visit a wedding fair and hand pick your MUA and you will save money.

Including a Wedding Celebrant will add a completely personalised and unique dimension to your special day. The job of a wedding celebrant is to listen to your love story and write a bespoke wedding ceremony based on your experiences.

Wedding CELEBRANT Congratulations! You are engaged! The planning now starts for one of the most wonderful days of your life: your wedding day! Just like many other couples, you are going to work hard to make your day personal, special, and memorable for all the best reasons. You will have so many amazing choices and opportunities to make your day absolutely perfect; including a Wedding Celebrant will add a completely personalised and unique dimension to your special day.

Wedding in most parts of the UK is not legal. Don’t panic! You do the legal service at a registry office, which will enable you to make savings to your wedding day budget.

As a Wedding Celebrant doesn’t offer a legal ceremony, what are the benefits? In the UK, there are constraints as to where legal ceremonies can take place based on time and location. Wedding Celebrants are not bound by this. Imagine saying your vows as the morning sun rises over the calm reflective waters of your favourite lake? Or looking into the eyes of your partner and proclaiming

your devotion as you stand on a mountain top surrounded by friends and family holding candles and torches aloft to light the scene? Opting for a Wedding Celebrant Ceremony means you can choose any location: inside or out. You can choose any time: dusk, dawn, midnight, as well as all the usual daylight hours. Why choose generic when you can choose unique?

What is a Wedding Celebrant and how can they enhance your wedding? The job of a wedding celebrant is to listen to your love story and write a bespoke wedding ceremony based on your experiences. This element of your wedding is based completely on your partnership and your commitment to each other, it will be a completely unique ceremony unlike those that are offered in registry offices or places of worship. It is important to know that a Celebrant

Sarah Nelson is a Wedding Celebrant At Moments To… The aim is to create the perfect life event ceremony for you and your family. By listening to your ideas, the ceremony you want is designed and delivered with honesty and respect on the day. For more information momentsto.co.uk 45

Children at your wedding...to invite them or not invite them—that is the question! As a woman in my early thirties, it is my personal experience that nearly 80% of my friendship group have kids. Both from young bloomers right through to those who have recently decided its time to create the next chapter of the family name. Kids are awesome. There is no doubt their sharp wit, frank conversation and innocent imagination can send even the sternest grownup into sobs of laughter. Yes sometimes they can get grumpy, yes they can get tired…..does it sound eerily familiar? As an adult we train ourselves into society’s mould that when attending a social event of any kind we are not to breathe even a inch of negativity for fear of insulting the hosts. A wedding is a celebration. 9/10 times you will know the children invited - through godparent nappy changing duties or an endless stream of proud Facebook photos of their first EVERYTHING. To children (and most adults) a wedding is a big party involving lovely food, dancing and coordinating clothes that match the chair covers.. 50

Who can coax the grownups out of their chairs and embrace dad dancing? Who can help the wedded couple feel relaxed and less daunted for 5 minutes of their special day? Who can help singletons at the wedding ensure they get their hands on a fancy centrepiece to take home (we’ve all done it!) Who will your own kids talk too if they are smothered all night by long distance aunties wearing peach lipstick? Daunting prospect. Children are part of your life. Think how much you will spend on flowers, the cake, the dress—all the beautiful parts of the magical day. Finish the dream by creating a playful, happy and vibrant atmosphere with the youth of today bringing out the fun in us all. Wacky Wedding Wizards are all about Magic and Weddings. We help the children understand about the event and how they can contribute as a sparkly support to get everyone chatting and having a great time! Trust us—social interaction is key to our business. Oh, and being one of a kind and affordable is a perk too! Congratulations! Helen, Director Creative Castle Ltd

Wedding Stationary Meet Becky owner of Hartiescraft Tell us about yourself

Can you tell us a little about the process how do you make them?

I’m Becky Owner at Hartiescraft. I’m so lucky to have been able to make my passion my job. I really am living the dream. I work from home which is great as I have 2 children so it allows me to be so flexible around their needs.

Once I have all the information I need such as colour schemes and a general idea of what a couple is looking for, I will then make some samples. Once the couple are happy with the design I will then get it booked in around their requested completion date. I always start an order on a Monday and deliver the completed order on the Friday. It normally takes a couple of days to complete an order. I then lock myself away in my home office and enjoy the final product coming together.

of my couples who wanted me to create an adoption certificate for the bride and groom with her name on. She’d had a standing joke with the couple for many years about them adopting her and her going to live with them and she wanted to give it to them as a wedding gift so had asked me to create it in the same style as the rest of their stationery.

What is the most common style people ask for? What made you start the business? When I was off on Maternity leave I decided to be more creative. I have an art and design background so my job at the time was so far away from that. It was the perfect opportunity to do something I loved. I decided to start handmaking gifts for birthdays and it quickly became apparent that people wanted to buy my work. The craft side of the business would never have allowed me to leave my job and go full time so when the opportunity arose to work with a venue being their stationery supplier, it was like a lightbulb moment.

What kind of stationary do you do for weddings? I handmake a variety of stationery from save the dates and invitations to everything you’ll need on the day, such as seating plans, name cards and everything in between.

Bundles are really popular as they have everything your guests will need from the invite, to added inserts such as rsvp cards and gift poems.

where can we find you? I’m based from home in Bebington. Couples are more than welcome to come and meet me there or I’m more than happy to go to them to discuss requirements.

What else do you do? I have a wide variety of products I offer such as thank you gifts and cards. Frames are very popular, hand painted plaques, flower girl wands and lots of added extras.

what is the funniest or weird request you ever had? I was contacted recently by a guest of one

Winter Weddings, Tips on Wedding Dresses and much more

Words are my thing, and the best part of my job is that I cater to everybody, especially to those in the wedding industry, with planning my own wedding for the past two years, it was an industry I got to know very well.

Wedding SPEECH

So, you’re trying to write the words for that all-important wedding speech? However, either the words won’t come, or words just aren’t your thing and after a lot of scrunched up paper and hair pulling, you’re probably about ready to tell your best friend that you can’t do it. But before you do that, have you considered hiring a copywriter instead? ‘What’s one of those?’ I hear you cry. Sounds like somebody who works with all that legal mumbo-jumbo, right? Well, not quite. A copywriter writes all those wonderful words you see everywhere including, you guessed it, speeches!

and if your speech is leaving you speechless, take a breath, relax and allow me to do all the hard work for you. From the Best Man or Best Woman to Groom, Bridesmaid or Father of the Bride speeches (because times are changing and everyone deserves to have their say!), I write words that’ll make your friends and family laugh and cry – for all the right reasons. And while I can’t guarantee you won’t be nervous on the day, I can guarantee I’ll take the stress off your shoulders when it comes to crafting a speech. So, instead of running out of ink and killing another tree by having to go out

and buy another writing pad, why not get in touch with me instead? We’ll have a chat, share a few jokes and I’ll take all the notes I need to create a speech you and the entire wedding party will love. There is also the option for you to write it yourself and have me proofread it for you (because, well, you might be a bloomin’ good writer and only need a professional eye to give it the once over). Don’t need any more convincing? Great!

Wedding Creche Founder of Bluey and Baloo, Michelle Peters is studying an important subject; children and play and this has massively influenced the standard of childcare that is offered at Bluey and Baloo, no child should ever be left out. At events, this means that there is a very large range of activities and very experienced nannies that are used to settling children into a new space.

Activities include ball pools, den building kits, arts and crafts and balloon modelling

to name a few. The wedding creche service is not the only package too, we regularly look after children of the bride and groom, through the wedding nanny service.

Another reason to book a wedding creche is that it’s a brilliant way to include children and their parents and still have quiet times when needed. Having a conversation with other adults, a lovely meal and a beverage can be a rare treat for parents. A wedding creche would be a great way to enable this to happen. Not forgetting fun times for

the children in the creche.

“We booked Bluey and Baloo to provide wedding childcare for 18 children, what a fantastic job they did. I’ve had nothing but praise from the parents and when I asked my seven-year-old niece what her favourite part of the wedding had been she said, ‘when we went to play’. Couldn’t ask for a more perfect reply, thanks to Michelle, Linda and the team”

Bluey and Baloo have been providing event childcare since 2009 and are regional winners of wedding creche of the year North 2018. For more information 03300 881838 blueyandbaloo.co.uk
