planning process, simply because it’s wedged directly between the two main events: the Ceremony and the Reception. While you are busy taking photos, and enjoying the first few moments of being married, your guests are on their own to figure out what comes next. Being able to provide your guests with direction and guidance between these two events is key to building a perfect wedding day. Here are some tips and ideas for your cocktail hour! 1. HAVE A PLAN. Additionally, professionals tend to have all of the equipment, and expertise to ensure your cocktail hour runs smoothly. •

AN EXPERT TIP by Kitchener-Waterloo based Olympic Sound (♥) (olympicsound.com) ORGANIZATION IS KEY. Create a detailed, precise itinerary and stick to it wherever possible. BE FLEXIBLE & RELAXED. Even though you have a schedule, things won’t always go according to plan. Be okay with that and just focus on enjoying your day! KEEP THE DAY TIGHTER. This means avoiding planning a 9am Saturday to 2am Sunday wedding day. That’s a long event and your guests could easily get tired out by 10pm. I always suggest planning ceremonies in the late afternoon. This means they’re closer to the cocktail hour or dinner time as the case may be and it’s less of a waiting period for guests (making it an overall better guest experience). USE YOUR VENDORS. We’re wedding experts, so take advantage of our knowledge and experience. Don’t be afraid to ask for advice and opinions. We work on countless events each year and so we can almost always offer useful advice. ALLOW FOR FLOATING TIME IN THE AGENDA. 10 to 15 minutes here and there throughout the itinerary of event can help accommodate for the fact that some events (photo 14 • The Wedding Ring Magazine { ONTARIO } www.theweddingring.ca

Online chat forums, blogs, websites and magazines (such as theweddingring. ca!) are great tools for finding sample wedding day itinerary templates. LEAN ON FAMILY AND FRIENDS. Your family and friends love you. They would probably also love to help with the wedding planning! Don’t be afraid to ask them for help, whether it’s before or on the wedding day. PRIORITIZE WHAT MATTERS MOST. For the truly perfect reception timeline, it’s all about you. What is most important to you both?! Is it the food? The dancing? The speeches? Decide what means the most to you and build extra time into your timeliness for those activities. For example, if you want to dance for hours, don’t start dinner at seven o’clock! Bump it up to six-thirty at the latest, giving time for dining, speeches and then a long, the party! GET AN EARLY START. Take the time to plan early so you are not stressed out trying to get it all done in the days leading up to the wedding. Also, giving yourself more time means you’re giving yourself time to make changes in your plans as you go along.
VENDOR TOOLS. Vendors often have planning forms that they make available to their clients. Use them! TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR DJ!! This is huge. I’m happy to help clients whenever they need it and often find myself getting involved when it comes to the scheduling of the evening. At Olympic Sound, we strive to go above and beyond the music. FOCUSING ON VOLUME & QUALITY: Latte’s business model keeps them as busy as possible, which in turn they say helps to keep the price as low as possible, all while maintaining the quality and experience they would’ve otherwise offered at a higher price point. To explain their approach, “Lower prices mean we get to work with more couples, including those that normally wouldn’t seek photography as a priority to their big day!” STANDARDIZATION IS SWEET: Latte knows that when couples book a photographer, they are doing so based upon samples of their work. They say that by having one package for all clients, they’re able to deliver the best job they can for every couple instead of having variable outcomes generated by variable package components. “Offering every couple the same all-inclusive package provides couples with the very best way to know what to expect from our firm.” INCLUDING WHAT COUPLES WANT: Latte’s standardized package (which is $1800 plus tax) includes a free Engagement Session, which is used, in part, to build the couple’s confidence in the studio’s ability to deliver beautiful photos from “a more casual form of direction and experience.” The package also includes 12 hours of wedding day coverage. “This ensures that all photographic elements of the day and/or night are captured genuinely and at the times they were originally planned to occur...” (This generally means no fake cake-cutting or posed first dances.) This means that both photographers are fully responsible for being engaged and active all day. “We don’t have students, interns, day-by-day contracted photographers within our ranks like with some other studios.” 2 WEEK TURNAROUND TIME: Latte offers a two-week turnaround on all images, which are delivered on USB. This post production and delivery timeline is something Latte doesn’t take lightly and is probably one of the fastest turnaround times in the region. Their editing space allows for up to six weddings to be edited at a time. When delivered, all images come with full rights for the couple to do anything they desire. From posting online to printing huge prints, the couples get the same size the studio took them in. As with all of Latte’s work, there is never a watermark or logo on the photos. BUILDING TRUST: Latte is a full-time operation with 16 photographers on staff, many of whom are part of the weekday editing team as well. “Everything we do includes some form of ‘backup plan.’ All editing systems have their own hourly backup drives. Our in-house server is set up on a RAID system to ensure no data loss. Aimee explains, “Miller Lash House is an old estate home and property located in the east end of the city. I grew up in the country, north of Toronto and Nick grew up in the city. The venue had a country feel but was located in the city so it was the perfect match for both of us!”

The details of this design palette were meticulously planned right down to the vintage emerald ring and the perfect fabrics for the table. Photographer, Julie Nicole told The Ring, “It is amazing what can be created when you join some of the industry’s best talent. Any bride would feel as if she had died and gone to heaven with the glorious details and the high end designs featured here in this session.” The combination of Southwestern Ontario wedding experts wanted to create a bold summer palette mixed with on-trend designs with hints of vintage details.

The ultimate stage for this bold, vintage style shoot? CAMBRIDGE MILL. “The Mill is for sure hands down one of the best places to host a wedding or an event. They just have so much to offer with the stunning chapel covered in glass and natural wood accents. The light simply pours in from every direction, making it a photographers dream location,” says Julie. This design palette includes some of the most beautiful stationary we’ve seen, designed by Danika of Uptown designs. Julie says, “She sure knows how to get a vision and bring it to life. They explained, “Revival House offers stained glass windows, cathedral ceilings, gorgeous chandelier...Their food is phenomenal - it is art on a plate and tastes fantastic! We loved that we could hold the ceremony, the cocktail hour, and the reception all in one place (there is separate space upstairs for cocktail hour)...
