The Wild Goose is coming to Sacred Heart Parish The Wild Goose Bible Study, Discovering a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit featuring Fr. Dave Pivonka, TOR. This is a study with no written homework, this is a study that is solely spirit filled; that will lead you to a place of mercy, healing, peace and presence. Along with the study we will have Praise and Worship Music Ministry to bring us further into prayerfulness; when we sing his praises, we are praying twice! The Wild Goose is a term that the ancient Celts had for the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has been given to us to lead us to the heart of God. This study will take place on the second Monday of each month from 6:30 – 8:00pm in our Parish Center. You will have an opportunity for fellowship and light refreshments. Pound at the YMCA of Greater Westfield The YMCA of Greater Westfield is offering the fastest growing group fitness phenomenon inspired by the sweat-dripping, infectious, energizing fun of drumming! POUND is a full body cardio jam session championed by fitness rebels around the world. Pound is the brainchild of Kirsten Potenza and Cristina Peerenboom, California-based former drummers who set out to fuse conditioning moves and cardio interval training with the distracting fun of drumming. Instead of listening to music, you become the music in this exhilarating full-body workout that combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training with yoga and pilatesinspired movements. Using Ripstix®, lightly weighted drumsticks engineered specifically for exercising, POUND transforms drumming into an incredibly effective way of working out. Designed for all fitness levels, POUND provides the perfect atmosphere for letting loose, getting energized, toning up

and rockin’ out! The workout is easily modifiable and the alternative vibe and welcoming philosophy appeals to all abilities. Sweat, Sculpt, & ROCK with POUND at the YMCA on Thursdays 6:30PM and Saturdays at 9:15AM. For more info, contact Cindy Agan, Fitness Director, 413568-8631 or email: cagan@ westfieldymca.org.

Watershed Wanderings Through Time and Space: Westfield River Watershed Association, 65 years of service Presented by Bill Rose, Mark Damon, Dr. Aaron Reyes, Dr. Brian Conz, Wednesday, February 13, 2019 6:30 p.m. University Hall Multipurpose Room, Westfield State University. Free and open to the public. A panel of Westfield River Watershed Association (WRWA) members will offer perspectives on the watershed and the association committed to its stewardship. Bill Rose will speak about his experience as an avid local recreational fly fisherman, addressing the type of fishing that takes place in the Westfield river, the changing conditions of the river and how this affects fishing, and WRWA activities that support recreational fishing such as salmon stocking, fly fishing clinics, and the yearly fish ladder open house. Mark Damon will discuss WRWA activities including river cleanups and the sampling of invertebrates in the river; how the diversity of invertebrates can be used as an indicator of overall ecosystem health; and a principle in riverine ecology called the River Continuum Concept that considers the health of the watershed. Dr. Aaron O. Reyes will describe the geology through which the Westfield River flows and how the geology affects natural water chemistry, followed by a short description of results from a WSU student internship program. Dr. Brian Conz will discuss the development and evolution of the Westfield River terraces, which are found in the Westfield River valley west of the city center. The terraces were cut from deltaic sediments deposited into an arm of glacial Lake Hitchcock some 13,000 years ago. The terraces were documented in the early 1900s by the famous physical geographer William Morris Davis and reveal a great deal about the evolution of our local landscape.

Chocolate, Chowder, & Chili Cook Off fundraiser The “Cook Off” date is Saturday, March 9, 2019, 11:30AM-1:30PM. We’re welcoming chefs and owners who might be interested in promoting their business and cooking for a good cause. Chefs will have the opportunity to showcase their cooking skills by cooking either a chili, chowder or a sweet chocolate delight. The chili and chowder have to be cooked in a Board of Health approved kitchen. When registering, specify the exact name of each dish in order for it to be printed in the right ballot category. Votes will be tallied by 1PM. The voting process is in the spirit of fun with the main goal of fundraising. The YMCA will provide the room, tables, and the paper goods. You may decorate your table with any business paraphernalia to help promote your business. Please reply as soon as possible to reserve a table at no cost, and have your name or restaurant’s name promoted. For more information, contact, Cindy Agan at 568-8631 x323 Email:cagan@ westfieldymca.org This year’s fundraiser will support the LiveStrong program. LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a free 12-week exercise program for cancer survivors who are currently in or have completed treatment and are physically deconditioned. Developed by Stanford University, this specially designed program has proven to help survivors regain strength, overcome fatigue, and enhance functional ability to do everyday tasks. Our Y is committed to serving individuals and their families living with, through and beyond cancer. Tickets will be sold at the Westfield YMCA in advance, in February, for $8.00; four for $30.00 or $10.00 at the door.

p.m. on Friday April 12, 2019 at the Westfield Technical Academy upper campus auditorium. The funds generated from this event will go a long way to support of new equipment for the volunteers of the Auxiliary to help keep our community safe during major outdoor events in our city such as parades, our first ever First Night, Concerts on the Green, PumpkinFest and more. This benefit was conceived by Westfield on Weekends president, Jay Pagluica. Chicago Total Access is a music group made up of 10 talented musicians who all grew up listening to American and British pop/rock, jazz, blues, rhythm and blues, Motown, acid rock. They’ve been influenced by music from the 40’s to the 70’s as well as classical music from the ages. There is no other American rock n roll band with horns that has influenced more musicians, is loved by millions of people worldwide, and has become such a deep part of Americana as the band Chicago. Since 1967, through 46 years of sold out concerts, millions of record sales, and legions of cheering fans worldwide Chicago is still going strong in 2013. The members of Chicago Total Access have attempted to recreate a slice of the timeless musical catalog of Chicago as well as stay true to the spirit of the original recordings. We hope you enjoy their efforts! The liner notes of Chicago’s first recording titled “The Chicago Transit Authority” still inspire Total Access band members and they hope you, as well -- “The printed word can never aspire to document a truly musical experience, so if you must call them something, speak of the city where all save one were born; where all of them were schooled and bred, and where all of this incredible music went down barely noticed; call them CHICAGO.” Tickets for the show are available on line at www.purplepass.com, at Rocky’s Ace Hardware in Westfield or by calling 800-316-8559. This is a hi-energy, explosive show band dedicated to covering the band’s catalog that spans over 45 years. The audience will have “total access” to the music of Chicago.
