Made in Westfield Exhibit at the Westfield Athenaeum Westfield Athenaeum Archivist Kate Deviny has mounted an exhibit titled Made in Westfield to display Westfield’s history of industry and manufacturing. It is open in the Jasper Rand Art museum during regular business hours. While not complete, the display reminds us of the wide variety of manufacturing that has been in Westfield since early times - the cotton thread mill of Richard Falley, brick making, ice cutting and powder mills as well as the bicycle, whip, paper, and cigar making that this town is famous for. Several current businesses have also loaned us materials so that you can learn about boroscopes, mirco-abrasive powders, grinding wheels, and artificial joints. This exhibit will last until April 7th.

High school offering ASVAB Exam Gateway Regional High School will offer the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) Career Exploration Program to interested juniors and seniors on Tuesday, April 9. There is no cost to take the ASVAB. The ASVAB Program is a career exploration and planning program that includes a multiple-aptitude test battery, an interest inventory, and career planning tools designed to help students explore the world of work. It usually takes 3 hours to complete and will begin at 8 a.m. on April 9. This exam can help students identify their interests, skills and work-related values; match those with occupations; learn where and how to get information on different careers; and develop career decision-making skills. ASVAB was originally developed by the U.S. Department of Defense for military-related purposes, and students must take the ASVAB to enter a variety of military careers. Students wishing to join the military should take this test. However, the ASVAB Program has been redesigned so that all students, regardless of their plans after high school, can learn more about themselves and identify potentially satisfying careers. Students and parents are advised that test results will not be released to the military services, and testtakers are under no obliga-

Interested students will receive a permission slip to bring home to get parental permission. Please contact the Gateway High School Guidance Office (685-1107) if you have any questions about this opportunity. Couch to 5K Ever wonder if you can complete a 5k race? You can! Chicago Total Access performance to benefit Westfield Police Auxiliary Chicago tribute band Chicago Total Access (chicagototalaccess.com) will be the featured performer for a unique community event benefitting the Westfield Police Auxiliary 7:30 p.m. on Friday April 12, 2019 at the Westfield Technical Academy upper campus auditorium. The funds generated from this event will go a long way to support of new equipment for the volunteers of the Auxiliary to help keep our community safe during major outdoor events in our city such as parades, our first ever First Night, Concerts on the Green, PumpkinFest and more. This benefit was conceived by Westfield on Weekends president, Jay Pagluica. Chicago Total Access is a music group made up of 10 talented musicians who all grew up listening to American and British pop/rock, jazz, blues, rhythm and blues, Motown, acid rock. They’ve been influenced by music from the 40’s to the 70’s as well as classical music from the ages. There is no other American rock n roll band with horns that has influenced more musicians, is loved by millions of people worldwide, and has become such a deep part of Americana as the band Chicago. Since 1967, through 46 years of sold out concerts, millions of record sales, and legions of cheering fans worldwide Chicago is still going strong in 2013. The members of Chicago Total Access have attempted to recreate a slice of the timeless musical catalog of Chicago as well as stay true to the spirit of the original recordings. We hope you enjoy their efforts! The liner notes of Chicago’s first recording titled “The Chicago Transit Authority” still inspire Total Access band members and they hope you, as well -- “The printed word

One part parody and one part loving homage, The Trocks simultaneously honor the traditions of ballet with high-level performance while also poking fun at the conventions that define ballet. An all-male company, The Trocks revel in playing with gender roles and identity. As a 40-year old company, the Trocks illustrate how decades of exploring and challenging a genre can still be fun and celebratory at the same time. The Wild Goose is coming to Sacred Heart Parish The Wild Goose Bible Study, Discovering a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit featuring Fr. Dave Pivonka, TOR. This is a study with no written homework, this is a study that is solely spirit filled; that will lead you to a place of mercy, healing, peace and presence. Along with the study we will have Praise and Worship Music Ministry to bring us further into prayerfulness; when we sing his praises, we are praying twice! The Wild Goose is a term that the ancient Celts had for the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has been given to us to lead us to the heart of God. This study will take place on the second Monday of each month from 6:30 – 8:00pm in our Parish Center. You will have an opportunity for fellowship and light refreshments. There is no charge for this bible study and everyone is welcome to come. A free will offering would be graciously appreciated to offset any costs. Please contact our Pastoral Minister, Deb Briancesco with any questions at 7868200 ext 3. Free food cupboard at the Easthampton Congregational Church The Easthampton Congregational Church holds a free food cupboard for people in need on the second Wednesday of each month. Everyone is welcome. If you have questions, please call the church office at 413-5274790.

Grandparents & Kin Raising Grandchildren, the Grandfamilies: support groups in Hampshire County You may ask, just what are G r a n d f a m i l i e s ? Grandfamilies is the name used to describe families that are created when a relative or friend rises to care for another relative’s children. This
happens for a multitude of reasons, with the occurrence on the rise. There are even great grandparents parenting again! Along with the satisfaction of helping and the joy, there are many difficulties that also surface. To help alleviate your difficulties and added stress we offer support groups where you are welcome to come, to learn about resources, to share and be heard. Pound at the YMCA of Greater Westfield The YMCA of Greater Westfield is offering the fastest growing group fitness phenomenon inspired by the sweat-dripping, infectious, energizing fun of drumming! POUND is a full body cardio jam session championed by fitness rebels around the world. Pound is the brainchild of Kirsten Potenza and Cristina Peerenboom, California-based former
drummers who set out to fuse conditioning moves and cardio interval training with the distracting fun of drumming. Instead of listening to music, you become the music in this exhilarating full-body workout that combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training with yoga and pilates-inspired movements. Using Ripstix®, lightly weighted drumsticks engineered specifically for exercising, POUND transforms drumming into an incredibly effective way of working out. Designed for all fitness levels, POUND provides the perfect atmosphere for letting loose, getting energized, toning up and rockin’ out! The workout is easily modifiable and the alternative vibe and welcoming philosophy appeals to all abilities. Sweat, Sculpt, & ROCK with POUND at the YMCA on Thursdays 6:30PM and Saturdays at 9:15AM. For more info, contact Cindy Agan, Fitness Director, 413568-8631 or email: cagan@ westfieldymca.org. Westfield Homeless Cat Project seeking donations As the temperatures drop, WHCP has a dramatic increase in requests for assisting homeless and abandoned cats. Winters are especially harsh for stray cats and while our lucky feline family members have warm places to sleep and humans to snuggle, there are many out there fending for themselves. Every day is a struggle as they try to survive the brutal cold and inclement weather. During these frigid winter months, WHCP strives to assist each and every cat at risk which creates an urgent need for canned cat food, monetary donations and supplies. At this time we especially need canned Friskies and Fancy Feast. WHCP is also seeking donations of gently used items for upcoming tag sales. Donations can be dropped off at 1124 East Mountain Road, Westfield, MA. For more information please contact Denise at denisesinico@hotmail.com or (413) 568-6964. Thank you for your support!
