Tesoro Corporation (“Tesoro”) and Savage Companies (“Savage”) today announced the formation of a joint venture between Tesoro Refining & Marketing Company LLC (a subsidiary of Tesoro) and Savage to develop and operate a new 120,000 barrel-per-day (bpd) crude-by-rail unloading and marine loading facility at the Port of Vancouver, Wash., subject to approval by regulatory agencies and Port Commissioners.

With access to rail and existing marine infrastructure, the Port of Vancouver is uniquely positioned to serve as a hub for the distribution of North American crude oil to West Coast refining centers. Tesoro and Savage are ideal partners for this project, having already operated in close partnership for almost ten years on the West Coast. The Tesoro-Savage Joint Venture’s combined capabilities, experience and resources are expected to create substantial benefits for the Port and the Vancouver community in the form of sustainable revenue to the Port and local jobs associated with the facility’s construction and operation.

The Tesoro-Savage Joint Venture will own the crude unloading and marine loading facilities and will enter into a land lease agreement with the Port for an initial period of ten years.

Savage will oversee and manage the design, construction and operation of the facility on the Joint Venture’s behalf. The facility is expected to be operational in 2014 and

will represent an investment of approximately $75 to $100 million, and will be designed to handle an estimated initial volume of 120,000 bpd with potential near-term expansion capability to 280,000 bpd.

From the belief that it costs too much to operate a pool to the misconception it will go unused, myths about pool ownership abound - and they likely dissuade some homeowners from making this valuable home improvement. If you’ve been considering adding a swimming pool to your outdoor environment, here are five common myths that simply don’t hold water: Myth:

Reality: A swimming pool is a significant home improvement investment, there’s no denying it. However, the cost of a pool will depend on many factors, including the size of your yard, the dimensions of the pool and the materials you choose. When compared to other significant discretionary expenditures such as a family vacation - which costs the average family nearly $4,800 for one week of fun each year - a pool can be a high-value investment that pays for itself in just a few years. In fact, when it comes to pool maintenance, 63 percent of pool owners say maintaining correct water chemistry is no -trouble at all, according to an APSP survey.

For example, using a solar cover on an inground pool when it’s not in use can help the water retain heat and keep debris out of the pool, which means less work for the filtration system - and you.

Reality: Buyers like homes that have swimming pools: Among people who purchased a home with an existing swimming pool, an eye-opening 78 percent said the presence of the pool contributed to their decision to buy the house, according to the APSP survey. Depending on where you live, a pool may enhance your home’s appeal to prospective buyers even more - especially if you live in a region with very hot summers or a year-round temperate climate.

Myth: If we get a pool, we’ll never use it.

Reality: People who own pools say they spend a lot of time in them, and it’s quality time. Seventy-six percent of pool owners say they are extremely or very satisfied with their pools. They also consider it a great place for gatherings, and believe that having a pool entices their family to spend more time together in their own backyards. Owners say they use their pools for relaxation, entertainment, celebrations and exercise, and 96 percent say they are satisfied with their pools.

Williston Basin Eyecare Breaks Ground

An official ground breaking ceremony was held recently for the new state-of- the-art

2020 Professional Center located adjacent to Mercy Medical Center. The idea for the new business venture and potential building began back in 2011.

“The dream started about 10 years ago when the optometrists wondered what would happen if they did their own thing,” said Mercy Medical Center CEO Matt Grimshaw.

The 60,000 square foot building is being built by Williston Basin Eyecare Associates (WBEA). The five optometrists, who are equal partners in the project, are Mitch Fearing, Laurali Sime, Danielle Brenno-Watterud, Mike Tofte and Allison Anderson.

WBEA will house their eye clinic on the main floor of the $11 million dollar facility;; Mercy Medical Center will occupy the third floor with its specialty doctors and physical therapy department;; and the 18,000 square foot second floor will be leased to interested professionals.

Fearing took some time at the celebration to provide some interesting background information on the group of optometrists.

“Twenty-eight years ago I took a trip back to North Dakota to take the state board exam in Fargo. As I walked out the door someone tapped me on the shoulder and I turned around and here was this guy with perfect hair, a perfect suit and perfect shoes. And I thought to myself, I better listen to what this guy has to say,” says Fearing. “

After telling Dr. Gordon Postovit that I had no intention of staying in North Dakota, I found myself driving to Williston a few days later with my mother- in-law. I walked into the business manager’s office and their sat Jackie Williams with perfect manager’s look. I was no match for her couldn’t say no. Two weeks later I started working at the eye clinic,” says Fearing. Fearing praised Williams for her professionalism at the eye clinic. “One day I went into her office – hell bent on getting a raise,” he says. “When I left, I had a smile on my face, no raise, and I had agreed to vacuum my office. That was Jackie.”

Sadly, Williams passed away on March 15, 2013, after a brief illness. Her memorial service in Williston was held at the same time as the groundbreaking so Fearing asked for a moment of silence to honor her memory. Fearing also touched on the caliber of optometrists at WBEA. We all went to under graduate school in North Dakota; we all went to the same optometry school; and we all started our careers in Williston and stayed here. We have a combined 72 years of experience together in Williston. I think this shows our commitment to each other; our families; our community; and most importantly our patients. ” The builder on record is MBA Construction while the architect is Mark Schneider at SBL Associates. The key to being in-demand your entire career: Be a ‘producer’

rom January 2010 to February 2013, the average unemployment rate was 8.8 percent, a stark contrast to the average of 5.3 percent from January 2003 to December 2006. One year removed from celebrating a historic 200th win for car owner Rick Hendrick, Jimmie Johnson had much more modest elation this time around at Darlington Raceway.

“Just kind of mired back at that point,” Johnson said. “Still, passed a few cars, went from eighth to fourth. Picked up four spots, but that (stop) didn’t help any.”

Repeat wins at Darlington aren’t extraordinarily rare, but going backto-back at one of NASCAR’s most treacherous circuits is no easy task. Still, Johnson will take a top-five and a two-week grasp on the standings lead heading into next Saturday night’s non-points NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.

But the evening’s developments hinted that Johnson possesses a broader view of what could be a bigger celebration at season’s end.

Johnson eked out a fourth-place finish in Saturday night’s Bojangles’ Southern 500, stretching his points lead in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series to 44 over championship rival Carl Edwards, who finished seventh.

The five-time Cup champion could almost take a race off and maintain his lead in the standings, considering the maximum points a driver can earn in a given race is 48 -- Johnson’s car number. But Johnson gave every impression that he intends to pour it on before the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup begins after the regular-season finale Sept. 7 at Richmond International Raceway.

“The big picture, we want to lock in before Richmond and control as much of the

regular season as we can,” said Johnson, who won the most recent of his five titles in 2010. “We’re doing that right now, so I’m very happy. We didn’t win the race, but I think we opened up the gap from first to second (in the points) and that’s nice to do.”

“Another good points night,” he said. “I know Richmond is still kind of far away, but top of my mind, I want to make sure we collect as many points as we can if we can’t win.”
