aopheek Babayeju’s career started twentyfour years ago when he served as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member at the defunct Mtel. After that, he worked briefly at Sony Ericsson as a service centre manager, and then he and a friend set up a company, but it failed. Failing didn’t deter Babayeju, as he summoned the courage to set up another company— a gadget service centre, from which he made his first million. And that was the beginning of his love for project management. By 2009, he held the first project management conference in Nigeria and the same year, he established his company, iCentra. In 2019, he established another branch of his company in Texas to serve the North American market, and last year, he was named the Project Management Institute Global Person of The Year.

You Can Wear With A 6 Types

SHORT BLACK SKIRT

Ashort black skirt is a classic wardrobe piece. Because of its adaptability, it is preferred for both formal occasions and informal get-togethers. However, your choice of shoes can make or break your appearance. Here are six shoe styles that go well with black skirts so you may look amazing whenever you wear one.

1

BLACK HEELS

A short black skirt is always a good match for black heels. They lengthen your legs, give you a refined touch, and are appropriate for formal events as well as dinner dates. The monochromatic impression they produce with the skirt gives you a sophisticated and elegant appearance, regardless of whether you go for block heels or stilettos. Accessorise your ensemble with a structured handbag or a stylish clutch to add to the sophisticated look.

2

ANKLE BOOTS

choose suede boots for a softer look or leather boots with a slight heel, ankle boots can quickly elevate your ensemble.

3

4 WHITE SNEAKERS

White sneakers are your greatest friend when it comes to a relaxed, informal style. They are ideal for errands, informal get-togethers, and even picnics because they are comfortable and stylish. The contrast between black and white produces a modern, youthful look that is both carefree and stylish. Wear an oversized hoodie or denim jacket for a casually stylish look.

STRAPPY SANDALS

Strappy sandals are an excellent option if you want a more delicate and feminine touch. They give an air of refinement and are ideal for occasions like brunches and evening gatherings. The open design keeps your ensemble breezy and light to counterbalance the boldness of the black skirt. For a sophisticated and modern style, especially during outdoor events, go for metallic or nude hues.

5

LOAFERS

Loafers are the perfect choice if you want to appear preppy or smartcasual. Since they are both fashionable and functional, they are ideal for work, school, or informal daytime excursions. A stylish pair of brown or black loafers can give an impression of refinement without being too formal.

6

OVER-THEKNEE BOOTS

Over-the-knee boots are the way to go if you want to up the game and add drama to your ensemble. They’re bold, fashionable, and ideal for the colder months. They exude a striking, avant-garde feel that is difficult to resist when paired with a short black skirt.

CONCLUSION

Like a blank canvas, a short black skirt is simple but incredibly versatile. The right shoes may change your ensemble, whether you’re looking for a laid-back, edgy, or sophisticated style. These six shoe choices, which range from classic black heels to trendy white sneakers, ensure that you’ll always look put together and fashionable.

T IS FOR TALENT

As we near the conclusion of uncovering #unshakable truths in the alphabet, this week’s letter posed an unexpected challenge. In the spirit of authenticity, I consulted the universe (and the internet) and found myself drawn to talent. Perhaps it’s no coincidence, as I believe the moments we are compelled to confront hold the greatest lessons. It’s Christmas Eve as I write this.

Partial empty nester me is nestled in bed, nibbling on crackers and choosing green tea over whiskey tonight — a rare act of restraint, driven by a desire for clarity as I prepare to speak with God (with clarity of mind) tomorrow morning. The house feels different this year. My children, now old enough to shape their own traditions, have made their own festive plans over this period, leaving me with a poignant quiet that has me asking some profound questions.

Chief among them: Am I truly using

every opportunity God has given me through my talents?

The answer, if I’m honest, is no. For years, I’ve been anchored by the reliable rhythm of a 9-to5. A single-income household doesn’t allow much leeway, and the demands of necessity have often drowned out the whispers of passion. The predictable alerts of a salary hitting my bank account — the lifeblood of bills paid and occasional indulgences — have served as a comforting excuse to delay pursuing the purpose I know I was born to fulfil.

But life has a way of interrupting comfort, doesn’t it? Periodically, the safety net I’ve clung to is yanked away, leaving me to grapple with the void it leaves behind. It is in these moments of discomfort that I’ve been forced to confront my truth — and turn to my talent. And here’s the miraculous thing: every time I’ve had to fill that void, something extraordinary has grown in its place. The void doesn’t just demand action; it deepens my hunger. It reminds me that I was made for more. With each disruption, my desire to plant on my own terms grows fiercer. My longing to pour energy into my passions — to lean into my God-given gifts — becomes an undeniable force. Let me clarify something here: Talent doesn’t have to be grand or dazzling. It doesn’t demand that we all rise to the stratosphere of Beyoncé, Michelle Obama, or Oprah. Talent is personal. It’s that unique thing you do so effortlessly and instinctively that it’s clear you were born to do it. It doesn’t need applause or an audience. It just needs recognition and care. That’s where its magic lies.

us. They are our offering to the world, our legacy. They’re the words that will one day be etched on the tombstones of our lives — not the jobs we held, but the light we shared. So here’s my challenge to you: Take a moment to reflect. Are you leaning into your talents? Are you nurturing the #unshakable truth of your purpose, or are you settling for the comfort of routine? For me, the void is widening, and with it, my determination to fill it with something enduring and meaningful. The beautiful thing about talent is that it is never too late to embrace it. It is not bound by age or circumstance. Whether you are 18 or 80, there’s still time to honour the gifts you have been given. These gifts, no matter how small they seem, have the power to transform not only your life but the lives of those around you.

Let this be your reminder: Talent is your truth. It’s your fingerprint on the world, your #unshakable contribution to the tapestry of humanity.

‘See’ you next week.

Maybe this is what middle age looks like — a time to pause and take stock of the life we have built, to ask the hard questions: Have I honoured my talents? Am I living a life that reflects my purpose, or am I simply existing in the routine of safety?

These questions are not comfortable, but they are necessary. For me, they have shifted the scales. Where stability once reigned supreme, I now feel a growing need to balance my time differently. I’m learning to be intentional — even selfish — about what I do with my energy. The 9-to5 keeps the wheels turning, but my talents — the #unshakable truths woven into my spirit — are what bring light to my life.

The truth is these gifts aren’t just for

INNOVATING AFRICA A CONVERSATION WITH TAOPHEEK BABAYEJU

Taopheek Babayeju, the dynamic CEO of iCentra and a globally respected authority on project management and digital transformation, opens up about his inspiring journey. With over 20 years of experience, Babayeju has championed impactful initiatives, from spearheading transformative projects across industries to mentoring Africa’s next generation of leaders.

A passionate advocate for innovation, he has steered the company into a global powerhouse while supporting young professionals through programs like #Project1500. In this candid conversation, Babayeju delves into his philosophy on leadership, the role of technology in Africa’s development, and the key lessons he has learned in navigating challenges in an ever-evolving business landscape.

In this interview with THEWILL DOWNTOWN’s Johnson Chukwueke, we explore the story behind the man who is transforming businesses and inspiring a continent to dream bigger, innovate boldly, and act decisively.

It’s always best to start from the beginning. How about you tell us a bit about your journey to your current position and what initially sparked your interest in your field?

My professional journey began in 2000 when I served as a NYSC youth corp member at the defunct Mtel. After service, I worked briefly at Sony Ericsson as a service centre manager. From there, I set up a company with a friend, and we failed. Then, I summoned the courage to start again by setting up a gadget service centre, from which I made my first million and travelled to the UK Telecoms Academy to fulfil my dream of becoming a telecoms engineer. Upon my return to Nigeria, Mtel called and offered me a position as a project engineer. From there, I discovered my passion for project management. Transitioning to project management allowed me to channel my technical and leadership skills into managing complex projects.

In 2009, I held the first national project management conference (ProMaCon) in Nigeria, which aimed to institutionalise project management best practices in Nigeria and Africa. I sustained the ProMaCon initiative for a decade. However, establishing iCentra in the same year (2009) was the culmination of my interest in creating sustainable business and technology solutions across sectors, especially in Africa. In 2019, we established iCentra in Texas to serve the North American market. My passion has always been building solutions that contribute to lasting impact, which continues to fuel my work today.

There is no beginning without some sort of hindrance, so I would like to know what some major challenges you faced when starting your career were and how you overcame them.

Starting, one major hurdle was navigating the shift from technical roles to leadership and management, where relationship management and leadership skills were critical. As a network engineer, I was used to solving problems independently, but as a management and technology consultant, I had to focus more on collaborative problemsolving and understand the importance of each team member’s contributions to transformation. I also faced challenges in creating a business in a market that didn’t widely embrace project management at the time. Developing emotional intelligence, improving communication, and understanding leadership dynamics became crucial. I worked on these areas through formal training, mentorship, and real-world experience, which helped me build trust with clients and establish iCentra as a leader in transformation.

Out of your many achievements, which do you feel has had the most impact on your career?

Convening Nigeria’s first National Project Management Conference, ProMaCon, in 2009 was a pivotal moment. It was the first time project management had a large-scale platform in Nigeria, and the conference sparked a national conversation on the value of project management for economic development. ProMaCon allowed me to bring together industry leaders, government officials, and professionals to champion the role of structured project management. This initiative validated the importance of

project management in Nigeria, created lasting networks, and showed me how bringing people together can create a movement for positive change. It has continued to impact the field by setting a standard for project management conferences in Nigeria.

You were recently named Project Management Institute(PMI) Global Person of the Year, what is the significance of this for you and the continent of Africa? Being named PMI Global Person of the Year is an incredible honour, representing years of hard work, dedication, and a relentless pursuit to elevate project management in Nigeria and beyond. This award signifies a global recognition of excellence from Africa, highlighting that impactful work is happening here. For Africa, it’s a milestone that signals to emerging professionals that our contributions are globally valued and that we are part of a larger community shaping the future of work and industry. This award is both a personal and collective achievement, reinforcing my commitment to empowering African professionals to achieve global standards in project management.

me perspective and a framework for navigating complex decisions. Their mentorship has been invaluable, not just in my career but in personal growth as well.

In business, learning is a continuous process, how do you stay updated and continue learning in your industry?

In our fast-evolving industry, continuous learning is key. I regularly engage with thought leaders in the fields of technology, consulting, and project management, attend global conferences, and keep up with the latest publications and certifications. I also find practical learning through hands-on project experience incredibly valuable, as each project brings unique challenges. Additionally, interacting with industry peers worldwide gives me diverse perspectives on how to address new challenges. Staying updated helps me bring innovative solutions to iCentra and keeps our work aligned with the latest industry standards.

“I set up a company with a friend, and we failed. Then, I summoned the courage to start again by setting up a gadget service centre, from which I made my first million and travelled to the UK Telecoms Academy to fulfil my dream of becoming a telecoms engineer.”

You have worked on your leadership skills for years, so how would you describe your leadership style, and how has it changed over the years?

My leadership style is inclusive, empowering, and vision-driven. When I started, I was primarily focused on achieving results efficiently, sometimes overlooking the importance of team alignment and motivation. Over the years, I learned that successful leadership is about creating an environment where team members feel valued and understood. Today, at iCentra, I lead by encouraging open communication, recognising individual strengths, and aligning our collective goals with the organisational mission. I aim to foster an environment of trust where people are empowered to contribute ideas and take ownership of their work. Adaptability has also become essential, as each project and team requires a tailored approach to leadership.

“Networking is not just about making connections; it’s about building relationships based on authenticity, trust, and mutual benefit. Show genuine interest in others, be willing to give without expecting immediate returns, and invest time in understanding people’s values.”

Who would you say are some mentors that have impacted you? My journey has been shaped by mentors who are visionary, empathetic, and grounded, such as Mr. Niyi Yusuf, Engr. Bayo Adeola and many others who have shaped my career. They taught me the importance of purpose-driven work, resilience, and balancing professional goals with a commitment to societal progress. One of my mentors, Dr. Akin Oparison, once advised me to prioritise people over processes, a piece of wisdom that reshaped my approach to leadership. Learning from people who’ve successfully navigated challenges has given

Your company, iCentra, recently celebrated its 15th anniversary. What has kept you going?

iCentra’s mission to transform people and organisations by leveraging innovation and technology is deeply fulfilling. Knowing that our work is helping shape the future keeps me driven. Another motivating factor is our commitment to empowering young professionals, especially within iCentra and seeing their growth. The belief that our work contributes to national and human capital development by providing much-needed solutions keeps me pushing forward.

What would you say is your approach to strategy development and execution when it comes to expanding iCentra?

When developing strategies for iCentra’s expansion, we prioritise alignment with our core mission and values, ensuring that we take on projects that genuinely contribute value. We also emphasise research to understand market needs and identify how we can uniquely address them. Strategic partnerships play a significant role, as they allow us to expand our reach and influence. Execution involves mobilising the right talent, setting clear goals, fostering an agile approach, and consistently measuring our impact. I believe in iterative learning and adjusting our strategies based on real-world results to ensure sustained growth.

What are your long-term goals for yourself and not just iCentra, but other business ventures?

Long-term, I envision iCentra expanding its footprint to impact more regions globally while continuing to drive solutions for sustainable development across the world. I also want to dedicate more time to mentoring young professionals and influencing policies. Beyond iCentra, my goal is to contribute to initiatives that foster economic progress and societal development in Africa, positioning the continent as a global leader in innovation and sustainability.

What advice would you give to young professionals aiming for success in your field?

My advice is to be adaptable, prioritise learning, and seek out mentors. Your career growth is determined by the skills you acquire and the network you build. Focus on gaining experience over immediate rewards, as each challenge provides valuable lessons. Building resilience is also essential—success often comes after setbacks. Networking must be of utmost importance to you. Do you have any tips for building strong professional relationships? Networking is not just about making connections; it’s about building relationships based on authenticity, trust, and mutual benefit. Show genuine interest in others, be willing to give without expecting immediate returns, and invest time in understanding people’s values.

Networking is about creating lasting relationships that support both personal and professional growth.

When it comes to personal milestones, are there any that you believe played a vital role in shaping who you are?

Reflecting on 24 years of my career, a few milestones stand out, like my first entrepreneurial experiment, starting my first business and

failing, setting up my service centre, convening Nigeria’s first project management conference, and establishing iCentra. Each of these experiences taught me resilience and the value of patience and determination. These milestones helped me refine my vision and build the confidence to pursue largescale goals.

What legacy do you hope to leave behind, both professionally and personally? I hope to leave a legacy of positive impact and empowerment. Professionally, I want to continue to drive the transformation of people and organisations for excellent performance. Personally, I hope to be remembered for uplifting others, building bridges for future leaders, and contributing to societal progress. I want my work to inspire others to pursue excellence and impact.

Let’s have a quick one concerning your work-life balance. What practices help you stay balanced?

Balancing work and life is essential to sustaining high performance. I practice intentional solitude and reflection, which allows me to recharge and maintain focus. Spending time with family, staying active and fit, and disconnecting when needed help me find equilibrium. Scheduling downtime is something I prioritise to ensure that my productivity remains high.

MUST-HAVE TECH GADGETS

for Maximum Productivity

The modern work environment changes quickly, especially with helpful advancements in technology, and the tools we use play an important role in determining our productivity levels.

In an era of tight deadlines, virtual meetings, and multitasking, using the right gadgets can make the difference between just keeping up and truly excelling in your career. From simplifying your workflow to enhancing collaboration, tech devices have become essential for professionals looking to boost their productivity.

Gone are the days of traditional notebooks. Smart notebooks like the Rocketbook Core allow you to jot down ideas and digitise them easily. They sync your notes directly to the cloud, ensuring you never lose track of your brilliant thoughts. Plus, they’re eco-friendly, as pages can be erased and reused. A smart notebook bridges the gap between handwriting enthusiasts and tech-savvy professionals.

Sitting for long hours can take a toll on your health and energy levels. A standing desk converter, such as the VariDesk or FlexiSpot, allows you to alternate between sitting and standing throughout the day. This ergonomic upgrade reduces physical strain and boosts focus and productivity. With easy adjustability, these devices can transform your existing desk into a dynamic workstation, helping you stay active while working.

Printer And Scanner

Despite the shift to digital, physical documents are still a staple in many offices. An all-inone printer and scanner, such as the HP OfficeJet Pro or Brother MFC series, can streamline your workflow by handling printing, scanning, and copying needs in one compact device. These gadgets are particularly useful for professionals who need to digitise files or share hard copies quickly and conveniently.

As work setups become increasingly tech-heavy, managing multiple devices can be overwhelming. A multi-port USB docking station consolidates your gadgets into one hub, allowing you to connect monitors, charge devices, and transfer data seamlessly. Devices like the Anker PowerExpand ensure a clutter-free workspace while keeping everything organised and accessible.

Staying on track is crucial, and tools like the TimeFlip interactive productivity timer or the classic Pomodoro timer help manage tasks effectively. These devices allow you to set intervals for work and breaks, keeping your energy levels balanced throughout the day. Encouraging focus during work sessions and relaxation during breaks helps maintain productivity without burnout.

Having the right tech devices can do wonders for your professional work, helping you save time, stay organised, and accomplish more in less time. Whether you’re a remote worker, a business professional, or a creative, these tools are investments in your productivity and career growth. Do your best to explore these gadgets and find what best suits your workflow. You have to keep in mind that staying productive in the digital age starts with having the right technology at your fingertips.

Fragrances can be a major contributor to allergic responses, although they are frequently added to skincare products to make them smell nice. Symptoms of scent allergies may include rashes, itching, or redness. The tricky thing is that “fragrance” is frequently identified on product labels as a single ingredient, making it challenging to identify the precise molecule causing the problem. In general, try to choose items marked “fragrance-free” or “unscented.” To cover up the smell of other substances, certain “unscented” products may contain masking perfumes, so patch testing is always necessary before utilising a new product.

2.

Preservatives called parabens are added to skincare products to increase their shelf life. Parabens such as methylparaben, propylparaben, and butylparaben can occasionally cause skin reactions, even though they aid in preventing the growth of mould and dangerous germs. These responses may show up as dermatitis, which can cause peeling, swelling, and redness. Seek out products with the label “paraben-free.” Nowadays, a lot of businesses provide skin-friendly alternative preservative solutions. Once more, while experimenting with new products, a patch test is your best friend.

5 SKINCARE INGREDIENTS 5

That Can Trigger Allergic Reactions

Many people believe that the skincare products they use will enhance the look and health of their skin. However, some chemicals may result in unanticipated side effects, from minor discomfort to severe allergic reactions. Knowing what to watch out for can help people make educated decisions and avoid problems. These five typical components in skincare products may cause adverse reactions.

3.

ESSENTIAL OILS

Essential oils with natural and aromatic qualities, such as eucalyptus, tea tree, and lavender, are well-liked. These oils can be pretty concentrated, though, and they might irritate the skin or trigger allergic reactions, particularly in sensitive skin. Itching, blistering, or even scorching are possible symptoms. If you like natural skincare, make sure essential oils are appropriately diluted before using them. Do not apply undiluted essential oils directly to your skin; instead, read the product label to get the precise oil concentrations.

5. FRAGRANCES PARABENS

CONCLUSION

SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE (SLS) ALCOHOL-BASED INGREDIENTS

Sodium lauryl sulfate is a common ingredient in body washes, shampoos, and cleansers. Although it produces that delightful lather, it can deplete your skin’s natural oils. Some people experience dryness and irritation as a result, while others may experience an allergic reaction. Select gentle formulas made especially for sensitive skin or sulfate-free cleansers. Seek out components such as “Cocamidopropyl betaine” as a gentler substitute for SLS.

Alcohol is frequently added to products to enhance texture and speed up drying, especially denatured and isopropyl alcohol. Sadly, these kinds of alcohol can cause dryness, irritation, or allergic reactions because they are harsh on the skin. Some types of alcohol, such as fatty alcohols (cetyl or stearyl alcohol), are safe and hydrating, but you should be aware of the harsher kinds. Carefully read product labels and steer clear of anything with “alcohol denat” or “isopropyl alcohol” prominently displayed among the ingredients. To keep your skin hydrated and free from irritation, use moisturisers and toners without alcohol.

Instead of damaging your skin, skincare should protect and nourish it. Knowing these common allergens will help you make better decisions and avoid unnecessary discomfort. If you have ongoing skin problems, always read ingredient labels, conduct patch tests, and see a dermatologist. Your skin will appreciate the additional care and attention.

The Art of Chocolate Truffle

Easy, Elegant, And Oh-So-Delicious

There’s something so deliciously magical about the rich and perfectly made chocolate truffle. These bite-sized confections can be considered luxurious treats for any occasion— whether it’s a romantic evening, a holiday celebration, or simply a moment of selfcare. While they may seem like the kind of dessert you’d only find at fancy patisseries, chocolate truffles are surprisingly easy to make at home.

With just a few simple ingredients and a little creativity, you can whip up these lavish treats in no time. Whether you’re a seasoned cook or a novice in the kitchen, this recipe will guide you step-by-step to create chocolate truffles that are as delicious as they are beautiful.

Ingredients

For The Truffle Base

• 200g dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher), finely chopped

• 120ml heavy cream

• 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

For Coatings And Toppings

• Cocoa powder

• Finely chopped nuts (e.g., pistachios, almonds, or hazelnuts)

• Shredded coconut

• Melted white or dark chocolate for drizzling

Instructions

Prepare The Ganache

Heat the cream in a small saucepan. Gently heat the heavy cream over medium-low heat until it begins to simmer. Avoid boiling. Place the chopped dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and let it sit for 2–3 minutes to allow the chocolate to melt.

Using a whisk or spatula, gently mix the cream and chocolate until smooth and glossy. Add the butter and stir until fully incorporated.

Chill The Ganache

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the ganache for 1–2 hours, or until it becomes firm enough to scoop.

Shape The Truffles

Once the ganache is set, use a teaspoon or a small cookie scoop to portion out the mixture. Roll each portion between your palms to form small, round balls. If the ganache becomes too soft to handle, place it back in the fridge for a few minutes.

Coat The Truffles

Roll each truffle in your choice of coating: cocoa powder, nuts, or shredded coconut. Using a piping bag or fork, drizzle melted chocolate over the finished truffles for a polished look. Place the coated truffles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and refrigerate for another 20 minutes to set.

Tips for the Perfect Truffles

Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavour and texture.

You can experiment with flavours by adding a splash of vanilla extract, orange zest, or even a touch of liqueur like Grand Marnier or Baileys to the ganache.

Keep the truffles refrigerated and take them out for 5–10 minutes before serving for the best consistency.

With this simple recipe, you can create gourmet-style chocolate truffles that are sure to impress friends, family, or that special someone.

So, why wait? Dive into the world of homemade chocolate truffles and discover the joy of crafting these delightful treats. Share them as gifts, serve them at parties, or enjoy them as a well-deserved treat for yourself. Bon appétit!

TEAM-BONDING IDEAS FOR PROFESSIONALS

In today’s professional world, productivity is everything. Businesses need results, and an organisation’s staff is essential to achieving this much-needed result. However, these staff can not hit good, profitable numbers if the team lacks harmony. Every part of the machine must be well-oiled to work in a coordinated manner. Many organisations understand this, and hence, the need to foster a strong team dynamic through team bonding exercises. These exercises improve communication and collaboration and build trust among team members.

Here are the top five team bonding exercises professionals can implement in their organisations to strengthen relationships and improve overall productivity.

Escape Room Challenge

An escape room is a very good way to build teamwork through fun activities. In this exercise, team members are locked in a themed room and must work together to solve puzzles and find clues to escape within a set time limit. Collaboration, critical thinking, and effective communication are very much needed, and the escape room lets team members showcase their problem-solving skills in a high-pressure environment.

Volunteer Together

Team Building Workshops

Organising workshops focused on specific skills can be an excellent way to bond while boosting professional development. These workshops can cover topics such as effective communication, conflict resolution, or leadership skills. Team members learn from each other and better understand their colleagues’ strengths and weaknesses.

Engaging in community service as a team can be a powerful bonding experience. Organising a volunteer day allows team members to work together for a common cause. Volunteering promotes teamwork and empathy, whether participating in a charity run or cleaning up a particular area. This experience not only strengthens relationships within the team but also improves the organisation’s reputation in the community. After the event, team members can share their experiences and discuss how the activity impacted their perspectives on teamwork and collaboration.

Taking the team out of the office for a day or weekend retreat can provide a refreshing change of scenery and a chance to bond in a relaxed environment. Outdoor activities such as hiking or team sports can promote teamwork and communication while allowing team members to connect on a personal level. These retreats can also include team-building exercises, workshops, and brainstorming sessions to encourage creativity and collaboration. The outdoor setting helps break down barriers and increases open communication, leading to stronger relationships back in the workplace.

Hosting a trivia or game night in the office can be a fun and lighthearted way to encourage team bonding. Get the team members divided into small groups and challenge them with questions related to the company, industry, or general knowledge. This exercise promotes teamwork, friendly competition, and collaboration. Additionally, incorporating board games or teambuilding activities can enhance the experience.

Team bonding exercises enhance communication, trust, and collaboration, leading to a more productive and cohesive work environment.

DOWNTOWN CONFIDENTIAL

The Love Triangle

Confusion is the best word to describe the phase I am currently in. Never in my life have I been this indecisive. It’s hard to believe, but both of them were the best thing that has ever happened to me. Kelvin and I started as friends until I noticed I was beginning to develop feelings for him. We had been friends for about three years, and during that time, I got to know the kind of person he was. Kelvin is kind and selfless and makes me laugh even when I don’t feel like it. When he smiles, it lights up his whole face, and I couldn’t help but fall for him. He’s the kind of person who would drop everything to be there for you. I always thought he was too good to be true.

But then there’s Tobi. I met him at a work conference. We were seated next to each other, and what started as polite conversation turned into a whirlwind connection I didn’t see coming. Tobi has this air of confidence around him that’s hard to ignore. He’s ambitious, driven, and has a way with words that make you believe you can conquer the world. While Kelvin’s energy is calm and steady, Tobi’s is fiery and exciting. Being with him made me feel alive in a way I couldn’t explain.

For months, I convinced myself I could handle

this. I told myself it was just a phase and that my feelings for one of them would eventually fade. But that hasn’t happened. Instead, my feelings for both of them grew stronger, leaving me stuck in a web of emotions I couldn’t untangle. The problem is, I can’t have both. It wouldn’t be fair to them, and it’s starting to take a toll on me too. There are nights I lie awake, wondering how I got into this mess. How do you choose between two people who mean so much to you? How do you pick between steady love and exhilarating passion?

Kelvin has started dropping hints about wanting something more serious. He’s even mentioned introducing me to his family. I know he sees a future with me, and the thought of breaking his heart makes me feel like a terrible person. But then there’s Tobi, who’s been hinting about taking a trip together. He talks about all the places he wants us to explore, and I can see how much he values having me by his side. The thought of losing him is equally painful. There have been close calls, too. Like the time Kelvin called me while I was out with Tobi. I had to make an excuse about being out with friends, and the guilt was overwhelming. Or the time Tobi texted me saying he missed me while I was at Kelvin’s place. I’ve been walking on eggshells, trying to keep them from finding out about each

other, but I know this can’t go on forever. I’ve considered talking to someone about it, but who would understand? My friends would probably judge me, and I can’t risk Kelvin or Tobi hearing about it from someone else. So, I’ve been carrying this burden alone, hoping the answer will come to me somehow. Whenever I think I’ve made up my mind, something happens that pulls me back. Kelvin’s random acts of kindness remind me of how safe and loved I feel with him. But then Tobi’s adventurous spirit makes me wonder if I’d be settling for less if I didn’t choose him. It’s a constant back and forth that leaves me emotionally drained.

They deserve honesty, and I owe it to myself to make a decision. But the truth is, I’m still confused. How do you choose between two people who each bring out different parts of you? How do you say goodbye to someone who’s been such a big part of your life?

One thing is clear, though – I need to decide soon. If Kelvin and Tobi ever find out about each other, it would break their trust completely, and I’d lose them both. That’s a risk I’m not willing to take. So here I am, torn between two incredible men, knowing that whatever choice I make, my life will never be the same.

MOVIE REVIEW:

The Review’s Most Anticipated Films And Shows of 2025

HappyNew Year! 2025 puts us two years away from the filmmakers and actors strikes of 2023 that really impacted the number of films we got all through 2024. With some distance from that, we have a huge number of films and shows to look forward to. As always, The Review will be here every single week, covering both expected favourites and unmitigated disasters with the same amount of enthusiasm and disgust (when needed!). Below is a smattering of the shows and films that look the most promising (to me!) in the coming year.

Films

Captain America: Brave New World - February 14

This new take on Marvel’s first superhero, directed by Julius Onah, marks the first Captain America film since Chris Evan’s departure. This is Sam Wilson’s (Anthony Mackie) turn to live up to the name as he finds himself in the midst of an international debacle, having to protect the president (Harrison Ford), who also happens to be the Red Hulk. Among the cast is Rosa Salazar as Diamondback and Liv Tyler (returning after 20 years) as Betty Ross.

Mickey 17 - March 7

Robert Pattinson stars as space traveller Mickey 17 in Bong Joon-ho’s sci-fi thriller. Mickey, a “disposable” employee, is sent on a deadly mission to colonize the ice world Niflheim. When one employee dies, he’s cloned with the memories of the traveller who comes before him. Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette co-star.

Mission : Impossible - The Final Reckoning - May 23

It could be his last mission: Ethan Hunt and the IMF bring the current chapter of the Mission: Impossible franchise to a close with Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning. Shot at the same time as its predecessor, the film stars Tom Cruise as a renegade secret agent in a race against time to save the world from an evil Artificial Intelligence. Cruise leads an all-star cast of franchise returnees including Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Hayley Atwell, and Vanessa Kirby, alongside newcomers Holt McCallany and Hannah Waddingham.

F1- June 27

Following a bidding war, a lengthy casting process, and principal photography that included filming during the 2023 British Grand Prix, Brad Pitt’s high-octane racing drama F1 is finally pulling into theaters. The film stars Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a Formula One driver called out of retirement to mentor a rookie prodigy (Damson Idris). In addition to Pitt and Idris, all 10 real-life Formula One teams and their drivers will appear in F1 as themselves.

Superman - July 11

Audiences can soon look to the sky as James Gunn is bringing Superman (David Corenswet) back to the big screen as part of Gunn and Peter Safran’s newly rebooted DC Universe. The plot follows Superman as he undergoes a journey to reconcile his heritage with how he was brought up in the human

world. Rachel Brosnahan stars as Lois Lane, while Nicholas Hoult will take on the mantle of Lex Luthor.

Fantastic Four: First Steps

The Fantastic Four are being rebooted once again, this time assembled by Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. The film will reportedly take place in 1960s New York City with Matt Shakman (WandaVision) directing.

TV Shows

Daredevil: Born Again (Disney+) - March 4

It’s been a long, long road to get us to Daredevil: Born Again’s release. The long-awaited solo return for Charlie Cox’s blind superhero outside of the short-lived MarvelNetflix partnership was first announced in 2022, but by 2023 it was undertaking a massive creative overhaul with The Punisher’s Dario Scardapane brought in as showrunner. The show, which has been billed as a continuation of the character’s initial three-season Netflix run rather than a reboot, will bring back series originals Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio as villain Kingpin, and Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson and Karen Page to the gritty streets of New York’s Hell’s Kitchen.

Yellowjackets Season 3 - March

20

Season 2 of Yellowjackets, the dual-timeline series about a group of teens who got stranded (and cannibalized each other!) in the wilderness, created even more tension and questions than its first outing. In Season 3, it looks like the team is getting hunted by someone who knows their secret—but everyone who knows the story is “us or dead.”

A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms (HBO/MAX)

The Game of Thrones universe continues to expand its reach. Along with House of the Dragon, 2025 will see another prequel come our way. The series is set 100 years before House of the Dragon’s Targaryen turf war and is based on the Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas in George R. R. Martin’s original A Song of Ice and Fire series. It revolves around a naive knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his squire known as Egg. Martin will write the series and has said it will have a different tone to its successors, but it’s still Westeros, so “No one is truly safe.”

Severance Season 2

The wait between Seasons 1 and 2 of Ben Stiller’s high-concept workplace drama felt longer than that stretch between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the office on any given Wednesday, but finally, it’s upon us. Adam Scott is back as Mark, an employee of Lumon, where employees can separate their work memories from their real-life memories. Season 1 gave us plenty of mysteries about what Lumon is actually up to; let’s hope Season 2 gives us some answers before it clocks out for the end of its shift.

One of the most interesting parts of the first season of Squid Game, the stellar South Korean Netflix series that became a bona fide cultural phenomenon, was not its murder games or colourful iconography. No, it was the painful reflections of the past by troubled protagonist Gi-hun, played by the always compelling Lee Jung-jae. These took the form of flashbacks that creator Hwang Dong-hyuk said drew inspiration from the real-life 2009 SsangYong Motor Co. layoffs after which thousands of workers went on strike and were violently repressed by police. It made clear that, while the many children’s games in the story were bloody in a way that was intentionally extreme, people would only be desperate enough to take part if the world outside was already pretty bleak.

It’s this harrowing undercurrent that ensures the show’s second season maintains the same urgent thematic resonance as the first. Even though it’s a bit less focused this time around, often feeling uneven with soso subplots tacked on, Hwang remains deeply attuned to the textures of life and the inequality therein. There is a new cast of well-drawn characters, terrifying new games, more exploration of how people are pushed to turn on each other, and an entertaining dark wrinkle about a mystery player who’s not at all who he seems to be.

However, what ensures it cuts deeper are the moments between the violence. It’s here where we get invested in the people fighting through a competition where, like so much of modern life, the house always wins.

Picking up two years after we last saw a red-haired Gi-hun emerge as the sole survivor of the last games, he’s now dedicated his life to taking down those who were running them. He funds his search by using the blood money he won, but it isn’t paying off how he would hope. This is slow going at first in a way that could lose viewers merely wanting to get back to the games, but it proves rather

effective at capturing just how much Gi-hun has changed due to the trauma from what happened to him. For all the time he has spent trying to bring down the games and those behind them, he is perpetually fighting an uphill battle. After getting as close as he can, he decides to reenter the competition.

From there, the show is best when it immerses us in his attempts to protect as many people as possible while preparing to take down the system from within. Though his knowledge does help aid some, he soon discovers that he is out of his depth. The games are different, and the people are frequently crueller, injecting what could have been a familiar retread

with a greater punch as we observe Gi-hun trying to stop the brutality that surrounds him. Yet the wheels of death keep turning, and the bodies keep piling up. No matter how much he tries to break through to people, all of them are already at death’s door and willing to risk everything to buy their way out. Hwang pulls off a tough balancing act, wrapping us up in the trials and tribulations of each game just as we realise how unwinnable all of it is.

This is where the season takes a refreshing big swing in its finale as Gi-hun realises he needs to take greater steps to stop it all. We then get some riveting action sequences, but again it’s all infused with dread at how inescapably stacked the deck remains. Our heart breaks for Gi-hun as he comes face to face with this, with Lee giving an excellent performance. We feel every twist of the knife in his eyes as his character sees his painful past repeating. It then ends on an appropriately feel-bad cliffhanger while leaving the door wide open for more in what is being billed as a final season. If the show maintains its razor-sharp writing and the world outside remains as broken as it is, it will, unfortunately, be a perpetually relevant one.
