POINT A MESSAGE FROM

DON MEADOR PASTOR TO SENIOR ADULTS

CAPE COD & THE ISLANDS Brenda McClendon, Virginia Cray and Helen Burgdorf

September 10 – 16, 50 members of the Senior Adult Ministry vacationed in Cape Cod & the Islands. Stops included Hyannis, Plymouth and Sandwich. We took a ferry ride over to Nantucket Island and enjoyed a Boston City Tour, as well as, a tour of Martha’s Vineyard and Newport, RI. God blessed us with wonderful weather for the entire trip.

We may not be Lutherans but we are Protestants. Therefore it is appropriate that we celebrate Martin Luther and the reformation that took place 500 years ago under his leading. It came to be known as the Protestant Reformation. It was in the year 1517. Luther, an Augustinian Monk in the Roman Catholic Church, was a serious Bible student. As a result of his studies he felt the church had drifted away from basic Biblical teachings. Therefore, he developed 95 points he wanted to debate with church officials. To make a very long story very short, this led eventually to his excommunication from the church, many years of controversy and strife, and the division of the church. It is interesting to note, as we study church history, that whenever the church strays from it’s basic foundational teachings and focuses more on power and wealth and authority, God raises up an individual to guide it back to the right pathway. John Wesley, leader of the Methodist revival in England in the 18th century was such a person. And Martin Luther, early in the 16th century, leader of the Protestant Reformation, was also such a person. Each year, at the end of October, we pause to remember the Reformation. It brought new life to a church that was drifting spiritually and was crippled by corruption. The church is always in need of renewal and reformation. So, let us give thanks for those great reformers who, following the leading of the Holy Spirit, have brought new life to the church. And let us pray that God would hasten the day when all fellow believers will be able to express unity in Christ. Your friend,

The group at Martha’s Vineyard
