JUNE 2022 EDITION

THE WOODLANDS METHODIST CHURCH

THESENIORPOINT THE WOODLANDS METHODIST CHURCH

THE GOOD STUFF by Rev. Pierce Drake

In the newness of moving to The Woodlands and getting into a new rhythm of life with all that comes with that, my daughter and I have been stopping by for milkshakes at Chick-Fil-A quite often. It actually is becoming a problem because at three years old, she thinks it’s now an everyday thing. As we arrived home after our latest stop, my wife, Claire, asked to have a sip of Emmie’s milkshake. Emmie, with it flowing down her face, looked straight at her mom and said, “No, you wouldn’t like it. It’s yuck.” It was that moment as a parent where you know you can’t let her say that and, at the same time, you’re laughing at the cuteness of it all. I think so often we struggle to share the good stuff. The stuff that we share so often on Facebook and through forwarded email is not the good stuff. The good stuff is our story. The good stuff is how God has moved in our life. The good stuff is life-giving conversations late into the evening after a good meal with friends and family. Emmie didn’t want to share the good stuff because it meant less for her, but we struggle to share the good stuff because we don’t think others really care to hear it. I’ve been reading about Timothy lately, the young man who became a spiritual son to Paul in the Bible. Paul writes a letter to Timothy, called 2 Timothy, right before he dies. Chapter 1:5 says, “I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.” Sincere Faith is the good stuff. It’s passed down in lives lived together, stories shared and hearts that listen. We are in need of passing down the good stuff. We all need to hear your good stuff, your stories of times met with Jesus. Emmie thought sharing meant less, and maybe it did when it came to the milkshake, but for those of us that follow Jesus, sharing the good stuff multiplies the love and faith in Jesus. Take a step of faith and share the good stuff.

Join us to proclaim and reaffirm your wedding vows with family and friends once again. Rev. Stew Grant, Pastor of Marriage and Family, Rev. Joy Johnston, Pastor of Caring Ministry and Rev. Chris McClain, Pastor of Senior Adult Ministry will officiate this special service. For more information about this event contact Sabrina Horne at 281.297.5917 or Register online.

THE GREAT CALLING by Rev. Chris McLain

Sent by my Lord, on you I call; the invitation is to all. Come, all the world! Come, sinner, thou! All things in Christ are ready now. — Come, Sinners, to the Gospel Feast Hymn 339, Verse 2 As I begin my first full month serving in my new role as Pastor of Caring and Senior Adult Ministry, and as we approach Pentecost and the birth of the church, I am reminded of what the people’s response was to the arrival of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2. They met. They served. They grew. They met and shared everything they had, gathered in the temple to worship, and shared Holy Communion together in their homes. They served others by selling their possessions and giving to those in need. Finally, they grew, in number of people being saved and in their learning. They also were performing signs and wonders, which shows us how much their faith was growing. I was thinking about how often we can get stuck in one of these movements. We can get stuck in just meeting with one another and enjoying community. We can say that we go to worship, and we do not need to be more involved. We can get stuck in focusing on numbers. But the work of Jesus is a beautiful invitation for us to live a life of abundance (John 10:10). We have 3,000 senior adults in our TWMC family. We must continue to ask these questions: How might we invite others, make a way for others, and add to the numbers of those who are being saved? This is the work of the earliest disciples, and this is our work for today! I look forward to walking alongside you as we live into this great calling during the season of Pentecost! This is the time, no more delay! This is the Lord’s accepted day. Come thou, this moment, at his call, and live for him who died for all. — Come, Sinners, to the Gospel Feast Hymn 339, Verse 5
