MFAH guide

Forty one members of the Senior Adult Ministry recently traveled to the Owen Theatre in Conroe to see a delightful musical “Bye Bye Birdie.” Before the play, we enjoyed dinner at Cracker Barrel and sitting in the rockers on the front porch.

MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS HOUSTON Members of the Senior Adult Ministry traveled to Houston for lunch at Cleburne Cafeteria followed by a docent-led tour of the Habsburg Splendor masterpieces from Vienna’s Imperial Collection at the Museum of Fine Arts.

November is here again so it’s time to think about Thanksgiving. I love Thanksgiving. It is a unique American holiday, centered around family, food, and faith. It is a time when people will do most anything to go back home for one day, for one meal, to celebrate family and to share a prayer of thanksgiving. It is a time to remember and give thanks for the blessings we enjoy in a free land where dreams can come true and hopes can be realized. There are many hymns of thanksgiving but one of my favorites is entitled Now Thank We All Our God. It was written by Martin Rinkart, a Lutheran pastor, way back in 1663 during a time of great suffering. It reminds us that God is always with us in every circumstance of life and therefore we have reason to give thanks. May this be your hymn of thanksgiving as we celebrate this year. Now thank we all our God, with heart and hands and voices, who wondrous things hath done, in whom this world rejoices; who from our mothers’ arms has blessed us on our way with countless gifts of love, and still is ours today. O may this bounteous God through all our life be near us, with ever joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us; and keep us still in grace, and guide us when perplexed; and free us from all ills, in this world and the next. All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given; the Son, and him who reigns with them in highest heaven; the one eternal God, whom earth and heaven adore; for thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore. May you and yours be filled with God’s love, peace and joy during this blessed season of giving thanks. Your friend, Don

THE OK QUILTERS

The OK Quilters invited special guest, Jane Ahrens, to their September meeting. Jane’s mother, Nancy Head, who was a long-time member of the OK Quilters, recently passed away. The group presented Jane with a quilt and a photo book containing pictures of her mother. On one page of the book was the quote, “Friendships are sewn… one stitch at a time.”
