OCTOBER 2018 EDITION
THE WOODLANDS UMC
POINT A MESSAGE FROM
CLIFF RITTER
PASTOR TO SENIOR ADULTS
PRIME TIMER EVENT WITH ROBERT LANDAU On September 5, Prime Timers hosted motivational speaker Robert Landau. Robert has been speaking to groups for 15 years. Robert started out as a “Socializer” on cruise ships and ultimately became a Cruise Director. He had all of us laughing about his life experiences as Cruise Director!
PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY Caring Ministry is re-introducing the Prayer Shawl Ministry. Those who love to knit or crochet are invited to participate. Although most of the hand work will be done at home, we will meet occasionally for fellowship and to pray for the recipients of our shawls. Shawls will be given in faith, hope and love to those in need. For more information, please contact Connie Norton at concetta44@comcast.net or 281.292.3875
Pumpkins are starting to show up at the corner grocery. That means either Jack-OLanterns or pumpkin pie is looming in my future. Our Senior Adults are as busy as ever, launching into Bible Studies, working with local missions and planning for the Holiday season right around the corner. Our seniors are a vital part of the day-to-day ministry of our church. I can’t tell you how excited I am to see so many of our Senior Adults getting involved with our community. We want to emphasize our health and wellness activities around campus. The Senior Fitness group meets on Tuesday and Friday every week, except Holidays. There is no better way to start the day than with an hour of exercise and stretching. We have a crowded room each day, but it is always fun and the class gets your heart (and other things) moving. Give it a try! You can earn a T-shirt, just by showing up. Are you looking for a way to volunteer? Let me recommend The Gathering Place. We meet on the first Monday of each month. This is our ministry for folks with early onset dementia and memory issues. Each participant needs to be screened by our staff before attending. Our volunteers need to work with our staff to be trained and prepared, but it is mostly a process of understanding the work of caring for folks with memory concerns. We have a fantastic leadership team and we are supported by a professional Social Worker from Care Partners. Give me a call for more information. Finally, with the Holiday Season right around the corner, this would be a great time to connect with The Goldenaires. If you can carry a tune in a bucket, I bet you can sing with the Goldenaires. Hey, they might even let a pastor join in once in a while! They will get you into shape (musically speaking) for all the Holiday music they will be performing soon. The bottom line, there’s more than enough opportunity to keep us all busy with ministry. Let’s jump aboard and get connected! See you soon!
