Thank you so much for your warm welcome to The Woodlands Methodist Church! If I have not had the pleasure of making your acquaintance yet, please know that I look forward to that opportunity very soon. I was raised in a home where there was an ethos of serving Jesus inside and outside the church. I have memories of sharing the love of Jesus through mission work as early as second grade. While I am grateful for the influence of my family and the church in which I grew up, I realize that not everyone was blessed to know the joy that is experienced in participating in mission ministry so early in life. This is one of the reasons I am so passionate about Missions Ministry at TWMC. I want everyone to know the blessing and joy of serving and sharing the love of Jesus. I say all of that to say you are never too young and never too old to experience the blessing and joy that comes through serving. I am so encouraged by the legacy of hope this church is creating, and I want to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU! Without your financial support and the gift of your time and talents, this kind of legacy would not be possible. Every person that contributes in some manner to the Missions Ministry is changing the world, one life at a time. How blessed we are to get to be just a small part of what our great God is doing in the Again, world.Ilook forward to meeting you either in the halls of the church or out in the mission field as we serve and share the love of Jesus with our neighbors both near and far!
A LEGACY OF HOPE by Rev. Karen Tyler Pastor of Missions
CONGRATULATIONS
Unfortunately, to lean so much on God’s providence that we forget (or refuse) to play our part in the kingdom is not living into who God has fully called us to be. I want to remind you today that you have a role to play in the Kingdom of God. No matter your age, ability or faithfulness, God is calling you to serve. I think about probably the least known disciple. He is so obscure that we aren’t even sure of his actual name! Thaddeus, aka Judas (not Iscariot), only speaks up once in the Bible. In John 14 he says, “Lord, how is it that you will reveal yourself to us, and not to the world?” Wow!
TO THESE TOP DOGS OF SUMMER!
2. In context, it’s about Jesus’ goals for announcing Himself to the world.
3. It is a question that is outward focused.
Thad doesn’t say much, but he makes sure he will understand the goal. Tradition tells us that he eventually founds a church in Edessa (modern day Turkey). Thaddeus asked the questions, understood the goals, and followed “The Way” so faithfully that he experienced a martyr’s death. See where setting goals will get you? In all seriousness, God is not calling us all to become martyrs or even to start a church, but He is calling us to set some goals for our walk with Him. If you are curious about your role in the Kingdom, let’s grab lunch, talk about your gifts and see where God is calling you to serve.
Let me tell you a secret: I am the worst …. at setting goals. Throughout life I have found myself living into a fatalistic understanding of God’s sovereignty, and often have gotten a little lazy when it comes to doing the work because “Hey! God’s got this anyway, right?”
